Chapter 56: 56 Chapters Lover
Wang Jian thought about the events of the night as he opened the car window and threw out a napkin.
Then, he instructed Tom, "Contact Dark Horse Comics and have Richardson come to my office tomorrow."
After Tom nodded in response,
Wang Jian turned his head to look out at the New York City night view, a smile unconsciously spreading across his lips.
EA was buying comic book licenses merely for game promotion.
They weren’t even intending to make money; in fact, for sales volume, they planned to subsidize part of the cost of each issue.
So, could a low-price strategy be used to shake up the market?
Reflecting on the current dismal comic sales, Wang Jian murmured to himself, "Let’s see if comics that aren’t about superheroes can become best-sellers."
"Superman, Hulk, can you beat the Magician with his low-price advantage?"
While Wang Jian was pondering these playful thoughts, Tom had already parked the car in front of the apartment.
Wang Jian bid farewell to Tom and briskly walked into the apartment.
On the way, he even cheerfully greeted a few neighbors he wasn’t very familiar with.
But as Wang Jian approached the entrance of his apartment, his steps suddenly halted.
Because two people, reeking of alcohol, were standing there.
"Lily, Lynn, what are you doing here?" he asked, frowning.
If it were just Lily, he might have been pleased.
But with red-haired Lynn tagging along, it meant there would be no fun tonight.
"Hi, Wang," Lily said with a bit of unpleasant look as she gestured at Lynn.
Then she continued, "Lynn got drunk and insisted on coming here to find you."
Find me?
What relationship do I have with her?
Wang Jian frowned, looking at the red-haired woman leaning against the door frame.
Lynn, with her hair up in a bun, was in a black office lady outfit, her face flush and her eyes bleary, looking at him.
As she recognized Wang Jian’s face, she suddenly leaned forward and quickly walked over.
She even said, "The advertisement project for ’I’m a Great Mage’ failed, my career, my promotion, everything’s ruined."
At the mention of "I’m a Great Mage" and "advertisement," Wang Jian’s expression darkened.
Then he remembered his sordid past in advertising.
That advertising plan was doomed to fail.
But anyway, he had taken the money, and the advertisement rights for the next ten years were sold off.
Thus, the "I’m a Great Mage" brand corn rolls had nothing to do with him anymore.
He shrugged his shoulders, about to feign some comfort.
But suddenly, the sound of a door opening came from behind.
Wang Jian turned to see that it was his neighbor, a white-haired old man leering his way.
Wang Jian glared at him, then hurriedly opened his door and pulled Lily and the red-haired woman into his room.
After he had locked the door, he turned to Lynn and said awkwardly, "It’s okay, you’re still young, there’s still a chance."
But Lynn kicked off her high heels, stretched her long legs sheathed in stockings, and staggered up to Wang Jian, starting to rant drunkenly.
"I broke up with my boyfriend for my career and came to New York City alone."
"But now, I’ve gone from an advertising planner to a typist, boo hoo..."
Wang Jian’s forehead throbbed, and after a moment of endurance, he couldn’t hold back and blurted, "And what does that have to do with me?"
"I gave you the license, you made the advertisement, and that was all our relationship was."
"Now that the advertisement has failed, our relationship is even less relevant."
Lynn was momentarily stunned.
Then she looked up at Wang Jian’s serious expression and then glanced at Lily slumped on the sofa.
But Lily was clearly under the influence of alcohol.
She was just gazing at Wang Jian with a giggly smile.
Lynn paused briefly, then turned to Wang Jian and whispered, "So, we have no relation?"
Then, she slowly walked towards Wang Jian and softly added, "Well, let’s have some sort of relationship."
Wang Jian was taken aback.
At that moment, Lily was still sitting on the sofa.
But before he knew it, Lily also stood up and staggered towards him.
...
The next day,
Wang Jian was awakened by the morning sunlight.
But this time, Wang Jian was not too panicked.
Just like Lily said last time, this is New York.
It wasn’t a big deal.
Yet,
it still felt a bit unbelievable.
Hesitant for a moment, Wang Jian decided to go into the kitchen to prepare breakfast for three.
As for what happened next, whatever happens, happens.
But just as he left the bedroom, Lynn opened her eyes.
She first sneakily glanced in the direction Wang Jian had gone.
Then she ruffled her messy red hair.
Suddenly, Lynn noticed that although Lily’s eyes were closed, there seemed to be a smile on her lips.
"Nice try, Lily," Lynn started tickling Lily and said, "Grinning so wide you can’t close your mouth."
Lily simply stopped pretending to be asleep and shot back.
They exchanged glances, each with a hint of blush on their faces.
"Should you go out first? After all, you are familiar," Lynn whispered.
Lily snorted lightly, "You’re not much better."
After sitting in silence for a while, they suddenly heard Wang Jian talking on the phone.
Lily bent down, crawled off the bed, and quietly walked to the door to check.
Then, she turned back to Lynn and said, "He’s gone."
Lynn let out a long sigh of relief and hurriedly put on the clothes scattered on the floor.
Shortly after, as Lynn drank some milk, she said to Lily, "Didn’t expect it, but he’s quite caring."
Lily shrugged and said, "Anyway, I’m not going to get married again. If you like him, I’ll step back and let you have him?"
Lynn shook her head and said, "He’s too young, not suitable."
"You didn’t say that last night," Lily retorted.
Lynn patted Lily on the shoulder and said, "Still, being a lover isn’t bad."
"Maybe he could even be of some help to my career."
Lily looked at Lynn seriously and said, "Don’t do anything to harm his interests. If you still consider me a friend, that is."
"Got it," Lynn pouted, "I won’t harm your little lover."
"Our little lover," Lily corrected her, taking a sip of milk.
ps: Because of the pandemic, I’m on duty outside.
I don’t have a computer or an outline, and I’m typing on a phone, it’s a bit messy.
If it’s too much, leave a message, and I’ll withdraw it.
