X-ray Eyes Little Wild Doctor-Chapter 118 - 113 Reporters Join the Frenzy
Chapter 118: Chapter 113 Reporters Join the Frenzy
"I wouldn’t say I know her; we’ve only met once," Ye Tian said with a casual smile.
It seemed that the other party was indeed one of Lai’s men. Since that was the case, they weren’t an enemy, and considering Lai had helped Yun Xinyan in business, he could even be considered an ally.
Ye Tian muttered to himself, "My dear wife, the favor you owe, your husband will repay today."
Mike and his colleagues were different from the associate director; they had no personal vendetta against Ye Tian. They acted against Ye Tian out of duty.
Ye Tian was no toddler; he knew what was at play. The assistant who had ordered the bodyguards to attack him was also acting out of compelled loyalty to Lai, and she wasn’t a bad person.
With a wry smile, he took two large strides forward and arrived in front of Eric.
"Step aside, let me do it," Ye Tian said.
Seeing the formidable figure suddenly appear, Eric jumped in fright, having witnessed Ye Tian’s terror firsthand. He thought Ye Tian was there to kill and silence them, but upon closer inspection, he realized that Ye Tian was there to save someone, which confused Eric.
"He’s been struck by a palm technique of my own creation. Without my personal treatment, he’ll be unconscious for at least three days."
Both Eric and the assistant were baffled, as by the sound of it, he seemed to want to help. They wondered what his intentions were.
"Out of respect for Lai, I’ll make an exception today," Ye Tian said.
"So he really is here to save the man," the assistant immediately understood, "It seems that he has a significant relationship with Lai. I had misunderstood him before."
Ye Tian flicked his wrist and a Dragon-whisker Needle appeared in his hand. Using the Nine Turns Needle Technique, he gently pricked Mike’s acupoints such as the Renzhong, Danzhong, and Sanyinjiao, then he patted his Baihui lightly with his right hand. A warm surge of Inner Strength flowed into Mike’s body, causing Mike to suddenly cough and actually wake up.
As Mike groggily regained consciousness, he saw Ye Tian standing beside him and was startled, quickly moving to the side. After Eric explained the situation, Mike understood.
"Thank you!" the assistant said.
Ye Tian just shrugged his shoulders, feeling that healing their man made them even.
Meanwhile, Associate Director Wang’s face had turned ashen, for he clearly saw an unusual glimmer in the assistant’s eyes when Ye Tian healed the man, as if she admired him greatly.
Ye Tian put away the Dragon-whisker Needle and, unbothered by the shocked gazes around him, went directly to the assistant, "What disease has old Lai got? Tell me, maybe I can treat it."
While Ye Tian was not very close to Lai, the man had helped Yun Xinyan, making him a friend of Ye Tian.
What was most important was that Associate Director Wang was always playing up Lai’s disease, trying to extract shameless conditions. Ye Tian had long been disgusted by it.
Both publicly and privately, Ye Tian wanted to cure Lai’s disease, to secure a business partner for his wife and to slap Associate Director Wang’s face. Why wouldn’t he do such a thing?
Hearing the man offer to treat the illness, the assistant was momentarily stunned, taken aback.
"Old Lai has a heart disease."
"Heh, I thought it was something serious. It turns out to be heart disease. That’s not a problem," Ye Tian said nonchalantly.
Ye Tian’s words were not an empty boast; he was skilled at healing and saving lives. Using the Dragon-whisker Needle combined with his unique Inner Strength, he didn’t claim he could cure diseases instantly, but relief was certainly possible.
Moreover, Ye Tian had a particular expertise in treating heart disease. Before coming to Jiang City, he had treated many heart disease patients, and everyone called him a miracle doctor of his time.
Upon hearing this, Associate Director Wang sneered on the spot, deriding, "You make it sound so easy. Let me ask you this, do you have a medical license? Have you ever attended medical school?"
"Exactly, I think he’s just full of hot air!" Ma Xu chimed in supportively.
"A medical license? Why would I need that, I don’t plan on being a doctor," Ye Tian scoffed, thinking to himself that if he really wanted to get certified, his home would probably be piled with certificates by now.
Everyone present had witnessed Ye Tian’s martial prowess, there was no doubt about his strength in martial arts.
However, the skill of healing and saving lives required years of accumulated experience. Ye Tian was just a young man in his twenties. Nobody would believe his claim of medical expertise.
But there was one exception, the young nurse Wang Ying.
"I believe you!" Wang Ying’s eyes were full of admiration and adoration.
They say beauty lies in the lover’s eyes, but perhaps it’s just as valid to say a miracle doctor does too. Wang Ying had a favorable impression of Ye Tian and believed in him unconditionally, without reason.
"Heh heh," Ye Tian smiled indifferently, it seemed his charm was too great, as the nurse appeared to have taken a liking to him.
"I could easily rely on my looks, but here I am, insisting on using my talent. Damn it, I’m just too stubborn," Ye Tian thought to himself with a wry smile.
On the other side, the beautiful assistant Wei pushed up her gold-rimmed glasses and looked at the energetic Mike, thinking about how he couldn’t be woken up just before, but right after Ye Tian gave him the acupuncture, he immediately came to. This spoke volumes.
"Could he really possess medical skills?" Despite her vast knowledge and experience, Assistant Wei was also puzzled.
However, from various indications, this young man named Ye Tian was certainly extraordinary. If what he said was true, then he must know Elder Lai. Given that, his claim that he could practice medicine was not unfounded.
She didn’t trust Ye Tian, but she trusted Elder Lai. The people Elder Lai valued were all capable of extraordinary things.
"Do you really know medicine?" Assistant Wei wanted a clear answer.
"Of course," Ye Tian answered seriously.
Vice-Director Wang snorted coldly and mocked, "Fine, you say you can treat illnesses, right? Then go perform surgery on Elder Lai. I, the Vice-Director, can’t handle this."
Passing the buck was something he was good at, as he sat up, acting with familiar ease.
This kid wanted to play the big shot, huh? Wang would give him the chance. Lai Dongming had suffered a heart attack that caused arteriosclerosis, and the condition was extremely complicated. Wang himself was worried he couldn’t cure it. Now he could just go with the flow and dump this mess on Ye Tian. If Ye Tian couldn’t cure Lai Dongming’s condition, Wang wanted to see how he would deal with the aftermath!
Vice-Director Wang’s eyes held a disdainful look as he said contemptuously, "I’d like to see just how you’re going to cure Elder Lai!" Then he narrowed his eyes, "I’ll give you fair warning, if anything happens to Elder Lai, you’ll be the one responsible for all consequences!"
He was never in the mood to operate anyway since the success rate was ridiculously low. Now that Ye Tian was stepping up to take over, it was exactly what he had hoped for.
"Heh heh, I’ll be responsible? Fine, no big deal," Ye Tian was very confident, "It’s time to show you quacks the true depth and breadth of Chinese medicine."
Ma Xu immediately scoffed, "Oh my, Chinese medicine? Are you here to make jokes? Can Chinese medicine even cure illnesses? Stop blowing smoke, okay? Be careful not to have your bluff blow up in your face—explode and kill yourself!"
Ye Tian’s expression grew serious, "Who says Chinese medicine can’t cure diseases! You short-sighted fool don’t know jack!"
"Nowadays, everyone seeks Western medicine. Who still consults Chinese medicine?" Ma Xu actually dared to talk back to Ye Tian, surprising even himself.
"So you say Chinese medicine is useless?" Ye Tian asked, "Alright then, if I manage to cure Elder Lai, you’ll have to apologize to me in person, and also apologize to the nurse. Do you dare?"
Seeing Ye Tian’s confident demeanor, Ma Xu hesitated for a moment, but upon noticing the calm Vice-Director Wang, he found his backer.
"What would I be scared of," Ma Xu said. "If you lose, you’ll have to apologize to me in the same way. Do you dare?"
"Heh heh, me lose?" Ye Tian couldn’t help but laugh coldly. Ma Xu, this rich second generation, knew nothing. The Chinese art of medicine had a five-thousand-year heritage; it wasn’t something this spoiled brat could understand.
As things had progressed to this point, the matter of Ye Tian treating Elder Lai was set in stone. Now it was a situation from which he couldn’t back down. Treat he must, even if he originally didn’t want to.
In the end, Assistant Wei didn’t say a word, which could be taken as tacit approval.
Actually, Assistant Wei had long been dissatisfied with Vice-Director Wang. His medical skills were mediocre and his ethics, in ruins. She had no respect for such a man. If it weren’t for the emergency, she would never entrust Elder Lai’s health to someone like him.
Now that Ye Tian had stepped up, she didn’t oppose it. From everything Ye Tian had shown, this young man was certainly not mediocre. Despite his youth, he was no fool. She hadn’t explicitly stated, but he must understand what failing the treatment would mean.
"We’re running out of time, come with me!" Assistant Wei glanced at her watch, her expression extremely serious, and she pressed the elevator button. They couldn’t delay any further with Elder Lai.
Ye Tian didn’t say much either. Since he had decided to practice medicine and save people, he might as well go all the way.
The elevator hadn’t arrived yet when suddenly from outside the inpatient department, a ruckus arose. A swarm of reporters, dressed in art vests and holding microphones, rushed over.
"Hello, I’m a reporter from Jiangcheng Evening News. I heard that the well-known entrepreneur Elder Lai suffered a heart attack this morning. I would like to know how he is now. Could you provide any information?"
"I’m a reporter from Yangzi Evening News. Will Elder Lai’s condition affect the normal operations of his enterprise?"
"Hello, I’m a reporter from the Evening News. Lai Dongming is our city’s philanthropist, educator, and entrepreneur. His condition has the financial sector of the entire Jiangcheng concerned. As Mr. Lai Dongming’s personal assistant, could you reveal a bit about his current health condition?" the reporter asked Assistant Wei.
Assistant Wei was displeased, wondering how these reporters had learned of Elder Lai’s hospitalization and illness. If this news got out, the stocks of the listed company would plummet. Each percentage point drop would mean a loss of tens of millions.
Without needing to speculate, it must be the doing of business rivals, who were resorting to extreme measures to take down Elder Lai and his group.
Without showing the slightest bit of embarrassment or panic, Assistant Wei briefly explained the situation, then said, "First of all, thank you for your concern for Elder Lai’s health. Secondly, Elder Lai will be undergoing surgery soon, so interviews won’t be necessary. Lastly, when Elder Lai has recovered and is discharged, I will explain everything to him. That will be all."
