Chapter 48: HE USED YOU

"All of you can leave," Zuri said, waving her hand at the two personal maids of her mother. They looked at Luna Karina and only left after she nodded.

"What is the meaning of this, Zuri?" Karina asked. "We need to go to the palace. You need to hurry."

Instead of answering, Zuri chose to sit down on the edge of the bed and stared at her mother. "Tonight, they will stage the coup, why do we need to be there? It's dangerous, don't you think?"

Karina widened her eyes, because Zuri was talking about the coup so casually. Thankfully, there was no one but the two of them there.

"We still need to put on an act. We can't afford to alert the King that there will be a coup against him. It will put him on alert if we missed this party. Your father said the King seemed to notice there was something amiss, but couldn't put his finger on what it is yet."

This room that her mother occupied was the second biggest room in the pack house with yellow as the dominant color. From the window, you could see rows of trees. The leaves had yellowed, indicating that fall would be here soon, as the wind began to grow a little bit colder.

"Zuri!" Karina marched toward her, she looked upset because Zuri was entertaining her irrational thoughts again. "Did you take your medicine?"

"Why do you, father and Xaden always call me crazy?" Zuri suddenly asked. She stared around the room. It didn't hold any warmth. The room was cold, just like hers.

"Because you act like one!"

"But someone told me that I was hurt. He didn't say that I was crazy, just hurt."

Karina was at a loss, she didn't know what Zuri was talking about. She went to check her belongings to find her medicine. She always carried some with her, just in case, Zuri went spiraling again like this. "Come, take this. You will feel better."

However, Zuri swatted her hand and looked at her closely. "I am not crazy."

'Yes, you are.'

'If you were not crazy, then why do you keep listening to those random voices in your head?'

The voices in her head mocked her.

"This is not about whether you are crazy or not! This is about being able to survive!" Karina was angry, she took the pills from the floor and shoved it into her hand again. "Take it and go change your dress. We will go to the palace now!" There was still time.

"Father will fail with his attempt to stage the coup," Zuri blurted out. "He will be on death row tomorrow." frёewebηovel.cѳm

"What do you mean?" Karina staggered back. "What do you mean by that?" She didn't know the details of the plan, but she knew that Roland had thought about everything thoroughly. "You said it yourself that Alpha Xaden was in the clear, he was not trying to play dirty against your father!"

After all, Zuri had been tasked to keep a close eye on Xaden and inform her father if there was something suspicious about him.

"Don't worry, mother, Xaden will be by father's side."

Karina tried to think hard to grasp the meaning behind Zuri's words and the realization shocked her to the core. "Alpha Khaos! Did you tell him everything?!"

"Yes."

"No way... No way..." Karina shook her head and her first reaction was to lash out at Zuri. "You are crazy! You are completely insane! You are willing to put your own mate and your father in harm's way! They are going to kill them!"

"That's the plan," Zuri replied nonchalantly.

A harsh slap landed on her face when she said that, but instead of crying from the pain, Zuri was laughing, as she welcomed this familiar feeling. She was accustomed to pain, thus she didn't mind it at all.

It was almost like she welcomed an old friend.

It had been a while since someone punished her, or slapped her...

"I can understand if you have an affair with Alpha Khaos, but for you to tell him about the secrets that could destroy all of us, you took things too far! Do you think you can escape this!? If your father and your mate fall, you will fall too! Do you think you will be able to escape death sentence just because Alpha Khaos is fucking you?!"

"It's a little bit embarrassing, but he has not yet touched me." She shrugged her shoulders. "I wish he had."

"I should have known that you will grow up to be as crazy as you were when you were little! I saw your craziness! I should have let you drown at that time!" Karina screamed, she raised her hand again, wanting to slap her for a second time, but Zuri saw it coming and caught her hand before she could hurt her.

It was not everyday your mother admitted that she wished you were dead instead. Zuri remembered that she almost drowned in the lake when she was five. Rhet, her third brother came to her rescue.

"You are disappointed in me because I am a girl? Do you think that if I were a boy, father would make me his heir to the title of alpha?" Zuri already knew the answer to this.

Karina took a deep breath before taking a step closer toward Zuri and cupping her face. "I love you, Zuri, but it's not been easy to raise you. I don't regret that you were a girl, but you do disappoint me whenever you turn unstable." Zuri had shown these signs ever since she was

little.

"You gave Alpha Khaos more than he deserved just because he gave you a little bit of attention. That's not right." Karina shook her head. "Don't get attached to someone who gives you only a little attention just because you are desperate for it."

"I am not just desperate, mother. I am dying for it."

"He only used you."

"I know. I allowed him to use me."
