A Mate For The Last Lycan-Chapter 47: THE NIGHT BEFORE THE COUP
Chapter 47: THE NIGHT BEFORE THE COUP
That would be their last conversation given the circumstances, because the next time they met, they would be in a completely different situation.
Sarah and Esther helped her with her bath. They washed her hair and lathered her body with soap, while Zuri stared blankly at the ceiling, listening to the voices in her mind.
The two of them looked at each other, this was not the first time for them to see their luna being like this, but they didn't dare to disturb her. Their luna would often stare into the distance for a long time and recently, they even caught her talking to herself in a low voice.
They were worried about her. Everything that the alpha put her through must have been weighing on her mentally.
"Luna, I found where the Alpha has been hiding Faye, do you want me to take you there?" Sarah asked warily, as she washed her hair with warm water. She heard their last conversation about Faye and the rest was not actually hard to figure out. "I didn't tell you earlier because I thought you didn't care. I am sorry."
Zuri pulled back from whatever thoughts she was occupied with, tilted her head and looked at Sarah upside down as she leaned her head on the tub.
"I've known that since the beginning. I told you, money makes a lot of things easier and I have a lot." She didn't pursue this matter because she didn't care. She still didn't care. She only wanted to make Xaden think that she cared, and bother him.
After the bath, Sarah and Esther helped her dry her hair and put on a comfortable dress, so she could rest, while the men were solidifying their plan for tomorrow. They were ready for the coup. All their warriors and rogues had blended with the people in the capital city.
No one would be suspicious because of the festivities.
"Here, take this." Zuri gave Sarah and Esther a set of jewelry each, which included a pair of earrings, necklace, bracelet and two rings.
"Luna! We can't accept them!" Sarah and Esther said in unison. Both of them knelt down. Their luna had been acting so weird lately.
It was not that she had never gifted them, but the gift this time was simply too much.
Zuri didn't have time for this. "Get up. I need to tell you something and I will not say it again for the second time." She shook her head to get rid of the voices in her head that were getting louder. "Go back to your families and then leave the capital city first thing in the morning."
"Luna, did we do something wrong?" Sarah asked, tears in her eyes. "Are you throwing us away?"
"Luna, we are very sorry for whatever we have done wrong. Please, don't chase us away."
They had grown fond of her, she was the best master that they had ever served, she was kind and thoughtful in her own way.
More importantly, Zuri thought of their families too. She helped them pay off their debts, despite what they had done to her the first time they met. She would give them money here and there and some of her jewelry pieces as well.
But now, a set of jewelry for each of them... it was too much. In one glance, they knew the price would allow them to buy a piece of land and a house.
However, they didn't want to part ways with her.
"Luna, please. Take these back, we don't want to leave your side."
"Luna, I am sorry I didn't tell you about Faye earlier, but I swear, I didn't have any interaction with her. Please, don't chase us away." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Sarah and Esther were crying right now, begging Zuri to take them back. They misunderstood her intention.
"I am not chase you away because I don't like you anymore or I am angry with you." Zuri wiped their tears, as they knelt down on the floor. They refused to stand up, while she was sitting on a chair in front of her boudoir. She glanced at her own reflection and saw how gaunt she looked. "Something big will happen tomorrow and you need to leave the capital city as soon as possible, or else, you and your family will end up dead by the end of the day."
Both of them gasped when they heard the bluntness in the luna's voice. She didn't sugarcoat her words, though she didn't tell them about the coup, but from her expression, they must understand the luna was serious about it.
"Leave now."
"But..."
Zuri crossed her arms, her expression was so cold. "Can you watch your families get killed because of your stupidity?"
They shivered in fear to even think about that. They didn't know what actually happened, but they knew the air around the pack house had been very unbearable, especially between Alpha Xaden and Alpha Roland. It was a plain sight that they were planning something dangerous with a few strangers that came and went from the pack house.
"Leave now." Zuri pushed the jewelry boxes into their arms. "Don't look back and go as far as possible."
They cried and hugged their luna and this startled Zuri. It felt nice to be hugged like this...
After Esther and Sarah left, she went to sleep. It was a dreamless sleep and when she woke up, she felt lethargic. She was exhausted, as if she had been running for miles instead of sleeping on her comfortable bed.
Zuri didn't meet with Xaden or her father, as they had gone to the palace early this morning, while she and her mother were supposed to be there around evening.
Yet, when the sun went down, she went to see her mother, who was wearing her best dress for the fifth day of the party.
"Why aren't you ready yet?" Karina frowned to see Zuri was still in her plain white dress.
