Chapter 50: THE FIRST KILL

Dacre was not happy to hear that. "Of course, I can. I am the King." He felt like he was being challenged and now he saw Khaos differently, especially with the way he replied to him.

The taste of victory over the coup that tried to kill him was rather addictive. He felt invincible, as if death couldn't touch him. The thrill Dacre felt as he watched those who had tried to betray him fall to their knees, their expressions crestfallen upon realizing their attempt had failed, was unlike anything he had ever experienced before.

The satisfaction he got from that was even greater than that of having mind blowing sex.

Khaos didn't hold back with his reply either. "I want to see you try."

Hearing that, Dacre felt anger boil in his veins. He stood up. His jaw hardened. "Is that a threat?"

The question was left unanswered as Khaos walked out of the room and left the King alone. Coldness fell in the throne room, as he seethed.

Outside, Caiden was waiting for Khaos. He heard the conversation inside and looked at his alpha with worry.

"I don't think it's right for you to provoke him now. You know he will retaliate, right?" Caiden looked around him to make sure no one was around to listen in on this conversation.

"Then, we only need to hasten our plan."

Caiden thought about it for a moment and then shrugged his shoulders. "You are right. Everything is ready now." He then remembered something crucial, cursing himself because he almost forgot this piece of information. "River Creek pack," he said to get Khaos' attention.

Both of them stopped in the middle of the hallway, where there was no guard or warrior around them.

"Alpha Roland's third son took over the pack and fortified themselves against the royal warriors, but there was a small movement from them. I believe Rhet, the third son, has led some of the warriors for the rescue of his little sister. I heard the two of them are close." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Khaos thought about it for a moment and then gave his gamma a specific instruction that left him dumbstruck.

"Are you sure?!" Caiden widened his eyes in disbelief. "Are you going to let it happen?"

"Yes."

And with that, Khaos continued to walk away, leaving Caiden stunned speechless. The alpha was heading toward the dungeon, visiting a certain woman.

This visit had been long overdue.

"I don't think this is a good idea," one of the guards groaned, but he still did what his partner told him to do. He fiddled with the lock of Zuri's cell. At this point, Zuri had stopped eating and just stared blankly at the ceiling, talking to herself.

Sometimes, she would talk in a whispery tone, but there would also be times when she screamed and threw everything that she could get her hands on, but most of the time, she would be sleeping.

"She is crazy. You have seen it for the past few days, right? More so, she will be dead in a few days. The King has issued a decree for her mate and her father's death sentences. No one will know about it." The second guard dismissed the other guard's concerns. "It would be a waste if we didn't try it. When will you have an opportunity to taste a highborn woman like this again? No whore from those brothels could be compared to her."

The first guard was still having his doubts, but when he saw Zuri's exposed thighs, he knew that his partner was right.

"Let's make it quick. I don't want to get in trouble if someone sees this."

The second guard laughed merrily. "If there is someone who saw it, let them join us. I don't mind sharing. I will take my turn first, you stay there and watch."

The first guard looked uncomfortable, but he did what he was told and watched as his partner crept closer to Zuri, who was seemingly not aware of the danger that came her way.

She was still talking to herself.

"You are more beautiful upon a closer look, Luna. No wonder, Alpha Xaden chose you instead of his destined omega mate." The rumor had spread, but there was no point in bringing it up at this moment. "You must have lost your mind to be talking to yourself."

"No. I can't... I shouldn't... I don't want to..."

Zuri talked a few words incoherently, as if she was arguing with herself. Her eyes were not focused, as though she was distracted by something that she was looking at miles away.

"You need to be careful," the first guard warned him. "I don't think it's a good idea to unlock her silver restraints."

"What is the fun in it if she is restrained? She is crazy, what could a crazy woman do?"

However, he should have taken his partner more seriously, because the answer to his question was very obvious. Crazy women would do crazy things.

The moment Zuri was released from the silver ropes that restrained her, the first thing she did was to claw his face.

She clawed the guard's face so deep, she managed to tear a good chunk of his flesh, making him cry out loud from the pain.

"Arrghh!"

The guard's shrill scream echoed in this dirty cell, bouncing off the damp walls.

But, before he could recover, Zuri shifted into her black beast and bit his neck, crushing his windpipe, which caused his sudden death.

He had unleashed a nightmare.

Zuri had been keeping her bloodthirsty thoughts to herself, ignoring the voices in her head that wanted blood. That wanted her to kill and today, she made her first kill.

There was no fear, no hesitation, the look in her eyes, almost close to satisfaction, as she finally gave into the darkest thoughts she had been pushing back to the farthest edge of her

mind.

It was satisfying as she watched life leave the guard's body and his body went still.
