Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 350 Hide information
[Margaret’s perspective]
"The situation is quite unstable right now, so just to be safe, I want to keep the news of your pregnancy under wraps before we return to the Royal City. Aside from a few people close to us, we’ll prevent anyone from finding out. That way, we can ensure your and the baby’s safety better. What do you think?"
I seemed to have no reason to refuse Donald’s suggestion.
His considerations were right, the apparent calmness and stability of the Lilo Sea were merely superficial. Underneath, chaos reigned! Capturing Henry and Levi, quelling the rebels—these were the things we must do now, and this baby seemed to have come at an inconvenient time.
While I was lost in these scattered thoughts, I found myself slowly nodding in agreement with Donald.
Several seconds later, I finally spoke up, "With us in light and the enemy in the dark, it is necessary for you to think one step ahead. I agree."
"But the baby’s arrival is a wonderful thing. I don’t want us to become a burden to you at this time. Of course, I will also protect myself and our child well after this."
As I finished speaking, Donald bent down and hugged me tightly as if I were his entire world. "How could you and the baby ever be a burden to me? You both are the source of my strength, and I will protect you both. Don’t worry," he said with a deep, tender voice.
Donald’s shoulders were always so broad and warm. I pressed my face into his neck and replied softly, "Okay."
These warm and romantic moments always seemed to pass too quickly. A few knocks on the door interrupted us, and I peeked out from Donald’s embrace. "It must be Ruth, right? She brought me some food!" I guessed.
Donald chuckled, let me go, and pinched my face as he said, "No wonder your appetite has been so good lately. The real reason is right here! This little one is pretty amazing. You’ll both need to eat more from now on!"
Perhaps it was the overly gentle look on Donald’s face that caused me to space out. By the time I returned to reality, Ruth had already walked in with a serving tray.
"Your Highness, you’re finally awake. You must be starved. This is the meal I prepared for you early this morning. Eat it while it’s hot, don’t starve yourself!" Ruth said with a delighted look in her eyes.
Upon hearing this, I nodded as the aroma of seafood porridge made my stomach rumble.
Donald and Ruth watched me gently as I put down my third bowl of porridge, and I looked up at them puzzled, "Why are you both looking at me like that? Won’t you eat some? This porridge is really good."
"This feeling... it’s also very nice," Donald said with raised eyebrows and a teasing look at me.
I wiped my mouth with a napkin and instinctively asked, "What feeling is very nice?"
Donald replied with a smile, "It’s like raising a little pig."
Me: "..."
Ruth stood by, covering her mouth to stifle a laugh, while I looked speechlessly at the suddenly joking Lycan king. We bantered, "Then should the ’keeper’ lay down to rest a bit? The bloodshot in your eyes is somewhat frightening."
At that, Donald nodded without arguing with the new nickname I gave him, "Then lie down with me for a while, I have things to take care of in the afternoon."
Thinking of the events that occurred yesterday, I patted the space next to me, gesturing for Donald to lie down.
Ruth, quite perceptively, took the tray and left, carefully closing the door behind her.
Donald took off his jacket and lay down in bed, closing his eyes. With a long arm, he pulled me into his embrace while saying, "Christian returned early this morning. He brought back some important news, and I have to confirm it with them later."
"At the auction yesterday, you met Berton’s son and daughter, didn’t you? He said those two kids saved you once. Is that true?"
Donald suddenly broached a topic out of the blue. I tried to look up at him but only managed to see his perfectly chiseled jawline. "Who are you referring to as Berton? The person who saved me at the auction yesterday... Are you talking about the Brand siblings?"
I recalled the events of yesterday, and the faces of the Brand siblings flashed through my mind. I thought for a moment and continued, "So Berton is the head of the Marine Supervision Bureau? I did hear something about that from Brand yesterday. Have you met him already?"
With closed eyes, Donald rubbed my head with his chin and slowly began to tell me about what happened after I had passed out.
I hadn’t expected so much to have happened after I lost consciousness, and for a moment, my thoughts were in disarray.
Donald was just habitually telling me about work, not really needing me to provide any immediate constructive advice. He lightly patted the back of my head with his voice sounding somewhat hoarse, as if he was extremely tired, "Don’t worry about it too much, my dear. I didn’t tell you this to make you worry. You just need to stay with me for now."
After these last words, Donald fell asleep, his breathing became even and prolonged through his nostrils.
I knew he hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep for several days, so I pushed down my confusion and curiosity, nestled into his shoulder, and closed my eyes.
The world was noisy and complex; only we were each other’s true and steadfast reliance.
