Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 355 Yangmou
[Margaret’s Perspective]
By the time Ruth and I returned to the ward from the garden, Donald had already come by without my knowing. He was sitting on the sofa against the wall, holding a tablet in his hand, his handsome brows slightly furrowed as if he encountered some kind of difficulty.
"You’re back?"
"When did you get here?"
Donald and I almost opened our mouths at the same time, our voices colliding in the air. I laughed and looked up at him, continuing to ask, "Is there some trouble again? Seeing you, your brows haven’t relaxed these past few days. Is there anything I can help with?"
On hearing this, Donald stood up and walked over. He rested one hand on the armrest of the wheelchair and gently touched my face with the other, responding warmly, "It’s all just minor things, I can handle them. Did you just go sunbathing in the garden? Your cheeks are red and flushed, looking like fresh apples."
"So, is this your special way of giving compliments, comparing someone’s cheeks to apples?" Donald’s palm was dry and comfortable, and without thinking, I rubbed my face against it, looking at him with a smile.
At this moment, Donald also smiled, his expression unspeakably tender.
Sometimes I think that Donald really has changed a lot. At least, when I first met him at Silver Moon Pack, his face wouldn’t show such a gentle and vivid expression. He has become much kinder now.
"You look much better now; you almost scared me to death yesterday. Are you hungry? Want to eat something?" Donald didn’t answer my question; instead, he changed the subject to talk about afternoon tea.
I wasn’t very hungry originally, but hearing Donald mention food suddenly made me feel a bit peckish.
At this point, the smile on Donald’s face deepened. He leaned down to kiss my lips and continued with a laugh, "I see now, you and the baby are hungry again. It so happens that a pastry chef came to the mansion today; let’s try his skill later together."
Such a proposal was, of course, as good as it gets. I nodded my head in agreement and added, "By the way, I ran into Brand in the garden just now. He should be coming over tomorrow as well."
Donald gave me a puzzled look. I rose from the wheelchair, aided by him, and walked back to the sofa area. After sitting down, I continued, "Brand is a rather clever boy. Due to Berton’s busy work, he hasn’t given enough attention and care to him. He must really admire his father, so now that Berton has stumbled in front of you, he wants to do something to help his father."
"So why did you let him get close to you?" Donald asked.
I was aware that Donald already knew this information, and he might even know it in more detail. He didn’t know what I wanted to do, nor did he oppose or stop me immediately, but instead, he patiently asked for my reasoning.
I looked at Donald and chuckled, snapping my fingers, "Brand is Berton’s eldest son and he values him highly. By allowing Brand to show me favor, I am sending a signal to Berton that the Wolf royal family can recognize him as a Marine Officer, but only if he is obedient and accepts all directives from Lcyan king."
"Your cooperation with Berton is imminent; we can’t let our guard down against him. Brand could serve as a bridge for cooperation between you two, or be the key for you to directly control Berton."
I continued, a flicker of thought crossing my eyes as I looked into Donald’s, "I’ve already had Elliot send Brand back just now. Berton isn’t a fool; surely he can understand our intentions."
Donald listened to me in silence, stroking his chin thoughtfully. After several seconds, he finally responded, "So what you mean is, Brand can be the medium through which we control Berton, or to put it in layman’s terms, he is a pawn sent by Berton. And Berton’s aim is to win my trust?"
Donald had thoroughly grasped the concept of the plan I proposed. I nodded my head, my eyes shining with approval, "Actually, it’s a mutual cooperation, beneficial to both parties, as long as Berton does not deviate halfway through."
"I understand. Your method is definitely more sound and reliable; it can even be called a ’masterstroke’."
Actually, this was just an idea I had come up with on the spur of the moment. With Donald praising me so generously, I was almost feeling a little embarrassed.
I picked up the water glass from the table and took a sip, glancing at Donald with a light laugh, "As long as you don’t mind, my doing this shouldn’t disturb your other plans, should it?"
Donald shook his head, replying softly, "No, your idea is very good. I was just worried about not being able to catch Berton’s fox tail, but now it’s perfect!"
At this moment, I didn’t know that this sudden idea would turn out to be such a big help to Donald later on. Brand was a fine young man; it was just that Berton, as a father, was too greedy.
And in this world, those who are harmed by their own insatiable greed are certainly not few!
