Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 354’Protons’ Delivered Right to Your Door
[Margaret’s Perspective]
The manor had now been turned into a fortress by Donald’s orders, with an extremely high safety index. Not to mention a little boy, even tough guys like Henry and Levi wouldn’t dream of attacking from the outside.
Elliot still didn’t feel at ease leaving Brand with me and waved off the other Lycans accompanying him, opting instead to stand guard nearby himself.
I felt that Donald and his group of Lycans seemed to be a bit on edge. After taking a couple deep breaths, I turned back to Brand and asked softly, "Why are you here? What do you want to do?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Perhaps Elliot’s gaze was too sharp, as Brand seemed frightened and uneasy, but he relaxed slightly after hearing me speak, "I came to explain the situation to His Majesty. He seems to have misunderstood my father because of what happened yesterday! My father didn’t sleep all night and is still locked in his study!"
"Lycan Queen, I know you and His Majesty are good people, and of course, so is my father. So, could you please talk to His Majesty and ask him not to make things difficult for my father..."
"Shut up! Do you know what you’re talking about?" Ruth immediately interrupted Brand’s speech, speaking with a cold tone and a stern expression on her face.
Brand, seemingly not expecting Ruth to suddenly stop him, froze before looking at me with some concern.
I had been patiently listening to him talk and was sure that the boy had no ill intentions. I sighed slightly and asked directly, "You say the Lycan king is making things difficult for your father, but what exactly does that entail?"
Upon hearing this, Brand opened his mouth as if to say something, but ultimately couldn’t cite a specific incident, knowing full well that Berton’s busyness was due to work matters.
"You clearly understand what is going on, so why do you slander the Lycan king like this? Mr. Berton is indeed busy with work these days, and this has nothing to do with Donald. Do you understand?" I said, shielding my eyes from the sun and looking at Brand with a hint of amusement.
The child’s downcast look was somewhat cute, his profile even resembling Elizabeth’s. "Alright, I think I know what you want to do. But Mr. Berton indeed has work to do, and you should be understanding of that. If you don’t mind, you can also come to chat with me tomorrow, and you can bring your sister, too."
I said this while patting the young boy’s shoulder, my face full of smiles.
Upon hearing this, Brand looked up at me, his eyes filled with delight and astonishment, "You... Your Highness, you’re not upset about my barging in today? I was even rude to the Lycan king, aren’t you angry? Can I really come here to play with you tomorrow? Is that true?"
It was always easy to understand the minds of the young. Watching his bright eyes, I nodded and smiled, "Don’t do something this dangerous again; your loved ones and friends will worry about you. Of course, you can come and see me because I’m currently recovering from an injury and really need someone to talk to."
"That’s great, Your Highness! You really are a beautiful and gentle person; I like you," Brand said candidly.
His frankness made me laugh, thinking it was good that Donald wasn’t here at the moment, or else he would have gotten jealous.
"I’ll ask that brother over there to take you back. Don’t go running around anymore, okay?" I indicated to a standing Lycan not far away, signaling to Brand that Elliot would take him home.
Brand seemed a little reluctant at this, but the thought of coming over to chat with me tomorrow made this minor ’difficulty’ seem acceptable.
He nodded in agreement, waved goodbye to me, and then happily trotted off.
Elliot, suddenly assigned this task, looked somewhat puzzled. I gave him a glance and a slight nod, telling him to follow my orders.
The group of Lycans always executed my commands without refusal.
Elliot led Brand away, and I watched their figures disappear at the end of the corridor, sighing softly to myself.
"Your Highness, why are you so kind to that boy? Isn’t he the Marine Officer’s son? Aren’t you worried he has ulterior motives for approaching you?" Ruth seemed puzzled by my earlier behavior and couldn’t help but ask.
I maneuvered my wheelchair in a different direction, getting even closer to the rose field, "Brand may be somewhat cunning, but he’s not bad by nature. I probably know what he wants to do, and why should I push away a hostage that came to me on his own? We are engaging in what can be described as mutual benefit. Don’t talk about any ’ulterior motives’ or the like."
Ruth appeared even more puzzled upon hearing this, looking at me with eyes full of confusion.
Seeing her reaction, I smiled without intending to share my full thoughts. Some things aren’t as benevolent and innocent when being carried out, and it’s better not to corrupt someone so endearing!
