Abyss Sequence-Chapter 424 - 81: The Strong
Using the eyepiece for measurement, this mountain stands at 9,003 meters, higher than Mount Everest.
To meet the Saint Fuer, one must climb step by step to the summit using one's own legs.
Although the physique of elves can be enhanced with magic power, even elves of general rank like Yevgenia find it challenging to climb this mountain.
Because Saint Fuer does not allow visitors to use any assistance, neither magic nor equipment is permitted.
The only solace is that even if you can't make it up, a mere shout of 'I give up' will have the barrier surrounding the mountain send visitors safely back to the ground, without worrying about life-threatening peril.
It's difficult for elves, but for Yan Luo, it's exceptionally easy.
Even without magnetic field powers, using only his physical strength, Yan Luo can run on this mountain.
"Yevgenia, please get on my back, I'll take you up." Yan Luo gazed at the mountain peak, speaking to Yevgenia without turning his head.
Yevgenia and Sasa were both momentarily stunned upon hearing this, with Yevgenia's face slightly flushed.
"I, I won't go up..."
Letting your son-in-law carry you up the mountain is not a pleasant thing.
During the mountain climb, bumps and knocks are inevitable, which is quite embarrassing...
Sasa then reacted, smiling and advised, "Ms. Yevgenia, rest assured a thousand times over, Yan Luo won't have any untoward intentions toward you, he's simply keen on bringing an elf up to build a rapport with the Saint."
Even if it's not Yevgenia, as long as there's an elf around, Yan Luo will carry them up.
Both he and Sasa are humans; direct contact with Saint Fuer might result in unfavorable perception, hence he invited Yevgenia to accompany them.
Yevgenia hesitated for a moment before eventually climbing onto Yan Luo's back, arms hooked around his neck and legs wrapped around his waist.
"Hold tight," Yan Luo reminded, then started moving.
One step extended three meters, then the speed increased, achieving each step of twelve meters.
The mountain slope is steep, even the gentlest parts only measure 52°, with over half the mountain body vertically aligned with the ground.
To rely solely on physical strength to ascend this mountain requires a significant exertion of energy and time, only elves with great perseverance and sufficient stamina can reach the peak to meet the Saint.
If an elf is willing to devote such time and energy to visit, why would the Saint have any reason to refuse?
However, this test is geared towards elves, rendering it useless for Yan Luo.
Yan Luo strode across the mountain body, even while carrying Sasa, clad in powered exoskeleton, and the heavy-set Yevgenia on his back, his feet still grounded steadfastly.
Yevgenia was somewhat bewildered by this, as she could sense that Yan Luo was not utilizing his special abilities.
Given that, how is he climbing the mountain?
Yevgenia looked back, astonished to see the depressions left on the ground by Yan Luo's footsteps.
Every twelve meters, a footprint-dented hollow is found where Yan Luo planted his feet into the mountain, ensuring his steadiness.
When reaching the sections vertical to the ground, Yan Luo created significant recesses with each step on the rock face.
He ran along the mountain wall, distances between steps stretching from twelve to twenty-two meters, almost flying alongside the mountain body.
Were it not for running on the vertical mountain, Yan Luo would be subject to gravitational constraints, allowing longer strides.
Nine thousand and three meters took Yan Luo just four minutes.
Starting from the mountain base, running at an average speed of forty-four meters per second, Yan Luo conquered the peak in only four minutes.
At the summit lies a platform with a small stone hut, surrounded by snow as far as the eye can see.
Just as Yan Luo reached the summit and gently set Yevgenia and Sasa down, the wooden door of the stone hut swung open, and an elderly elf in plain attire emerged.
"Welcome to my abode, human Saint."
The old elf communicated with Yan Luo in ancient Chinese, but he had forgotten that more than eight thousand years have passed, with language continuously evolving over time.
Yan Luo could barely comprehend any of it, making total understanding impossible.
Sasa stepped up, using Elvish language to remind, "Your Excellency, Blue Star no longer uses this ancient language, we can't fully understand nor speak it, so let's communicate in Elvish."
"No longer used, huh..." The old elf suddenly fell silent.
After a while, he glanced skyward, breathing a long sigh: "Indeed, so much time has passed, compounded with your loss of magic power, inheritance must have broken, it's normal to abandon the old language."
Hearing this, Sasa's heart was stirred.
Perhaps this old elf has ties with the ancient Blue Star civilization?
Having this thought, Sasa began her introduction: "Your Excellency, my name is Sasa, the male beside me is Yan Luo, I'm his advisor, and the female elf is Yevgenia Xuan Konghua, my bodyguard. We have come seeking your wisdom on some matters."
The old elf withdrew his gaze from the sky, chuckling: "In Alfheim, my name is Fuer Hongfeng, and in your world, I once had a name too, Sifu, from the clan Youjiao, I'm a Saint and elf hybrid."
Upon hearing this, Yan Luo, Sasa, and Yevgenia widened their eyes.
Youjiao clan, the legendary maternal family of the Yellow Emperor, and the clan name "Si" is one of the eight great clan names of ancient times.
Blue Star severed its contact with the Abyss over eight thousand years ago, since then it lost touch with other planets, meaning this old elf must be at least eight thousand years old!
Initially, Yan Luo intended to foster relations between Yevgenia and the Saint, yet seeing this unfold, his tie with the Saint appears closer than Yevgenia's.
Witnessing their dumbfounded expressions, Fuer couldn't help but laugh heartily: "Startled, aren't you? Even in Alfheim, few elves know this story, hopefully, you won't spread it."
Yan Luo took a deep breath, nodding earnestly, "Rest assured, I won't divulge it."
Fuer nodded slightly, "Now then, let's discuss why you came seeking me?"
"It's related to the Evil God," Yan Luo stated.
Sasa picked up the thread, adding, "Lord Fuer, you know how the Evil God was born, right? Besides, surviving over eight thousand years, you must understand why Blue Star severed ties with the Abyss and sealed magic power."
Fuer nodded with a smile, "Indeed, I know."
"Yet you've never told us..." Yevgenia murmured softly.
Before this, all elves thought Midgard vanished inexplicably, hardly any knew of why the human world broke contact.
Sasa's demeanor turned solemn, and she queried, "Is it true you're nurturing a positive Evil God?"
Fuer paused for a moment.
"Yes."
He answered openly, no remorse or guilt.
As expected!
Sasa took a deep breath.
She always felt elves had a peculiar disposition, or rather, their interaction style seemed odd.
Even though the universe holds vast potential, likely containing innately kind-hearted races, elves' brand of kindness felt contrived.
She had consistently felt something was amiss, only to realize elf's disposition isn't intrinsic to their race, nor gene-derived, but cultivated deliberately!
Fuer Hongfeng sealed off Alfheim from external exploration to nurture elven character, shaping them into the current kind, optimistic semblance.
If she's correct, both Saintly elves likely possess the ability to eradicate the Abyss, and neutralize demons roaming the wilderness.
Yet they refrain from doing so, allowing demons to roam freely leading to Alfheim's harsh environment.
They do this to forge a 'positive Evil God.'
A neutral portrayal is a positive memetic entity.
No one knows what that entails, the world's never seen such a thing.
To reorient an entire society's consciousness for an unknown possibility, Sasa has never understood the phrase 'the mighty are malevolent' like now.
