Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 132: Shopping & Secrets
Voices blended together in a steady murmur while Delphinia and Valerie moved through the busy mall. The two women strolled past high-end boutiques, their arms lightly linked as they moved from store to store, scanning displays and exchanging opinions on various outfits.
"I swear, I haven’t been shopping like this in ages," Valerie said, flipping her long hair over her shoulder. "You being married to a Walton really does make things feel fancier."
Delphinia chuckled, adjusting her purse strap. "It’s not about being fancy. I just want to look my best. I’ll be attending Ashton’s parent-teacher meeting soon, and I don’t want to embarrass my husband and son."
Valerie stopped in front of a boutique window and turned to her with an arched brow. "Embarrass? You’re stunning, Delphie. I think you’ll be the most elegant woman in that room."
A slight blush dusted Delphinia’s cheeks. "Still, I want to make a good impression. This is my first real event as Ashton’s stepmother."
Valerie hummed in understanding before pulling Delphinia into the store. "Then let’s find you something perfect. We’ll make sure every other parent is green with envy."
The two of them spent the next hour browsing through racks of elegant blouses, fitted skirts, and tailored dresses. Delphinia found herself drawn to a navy-blue midi dress with delicate embroidery along the neckline. She held it up against herself, tilting her head thoughtfully.
"What do you think?" she asked.
Valerie pursed her lips before nodding. "That one’s good. Professional but classy. Evander’s going to love it."
Delphinia laughed. "It’s not about him."
Valerie smirked knowingly. "Mmhmm, sure."
Once their shopping was done, they made their way to a quiet café within the mall. Delphinia stirred her iced latte, looking at Valerie thoughtfully.
"So, tell me more about Evander back in high school," she said casually.
Valerie rolled her eyes with an exaggerated groan. "Again? I’ve told you so many stories already."
"I know, but there has to be something you haven’t mentioned yet. Something about his love life maybe?" Delphinia leaned forward, eyes twinkling with curiosity.
Valerie lifted her cup to her lips, contemplating. "Well, I told you that Lydia was always after him, right?"
Delphinia nodded. "You said she was relentless."
"That’s putting it mildly. Everyone thought they were the perfect couple. The ’Dream Couple,’ actually. Except, the relationship part was only in Lydia’s head."
Delphinia tilted her head. "So, they never actually dated?"
"Nope. She chased him all through high school, and he never gave her the time of day. But Lydia didn’t care. She kept going, acting like she was already his girlfriend."
Delphinia tapped her nails against her cup, processing the information. "And Evander? He never had feelings for her?"
Valerie shrugged. "I don’t think so. He never showed any interest. Honestly, Cedric was the one always keeping her company. But somehow, everyone just assumed Evander and Lydia were together."
Delphinia frowned slightly. "That must’ve been frustrating for him."
Valerie snorted. "He didn’t care. He was too busy being the perfect Walton heir."
Before Delphinia could ask more, her phone vibrated with a notification. She glanced at the time and sighed. "We should probably get going."
They gathered their bags and exited the café, heading toward the parking lot. As they walked, Delphinia was still lost in thought, piecing together what she had learned about Evander’s past. She was so distracted that she barely noticed when she bumped into someone.
"Oh, I’m sorry—" She looked up, eyes widening in recognition. "Cedric?"
Cedric blinked before offering a polite smile. "Delphinia? What a surprise."
Valerie, standing beside her, crossed her arms. "Well, if it isn’t Cedric. Haven’t seen you in a while. Remember me?"
Cedric’s lips curled into an easy smirk as he shifted his gaze to Valerie. "Valerie, of course, I remember you. How could I forget?" His tone was warm, teasing, as if they were old friends who had simply gone too long without catching up.
Valerie scoffed, though there was a flicker of amusement in her eyes. "Yeah, yeah. You always were a smooth talker." She tilted her head, arms still crossed. "Where have you been, anyway? Thought you vanished off the face of the earth."
Cedric chuckled. "Not quite. Just busy, you know how it is. Work, traveling—keeping myself entertained." His gaze flickered briefly to Delphinia before he looked back at Valerie. "And what about you? Still keeping everyone in line?"
Valerie shrugged. "Someone has to."
Cedric laughed at that, the sound light and familiar. "Good to know some things never change." Then, his attention fully shifted to Delphinia. "And you... it really is a surprise running into you here."
Delphinia, still recovering from the unexpected encounter, finally found her voice. "Yeah, it’s been a while." She hesitated for a second before adding, "How have you been?"
Cedric chuckled. "Yeah, been busy. What brings you two here?"
Delphinia nodded, but her mind was already drifting elsewhere. She hadn’t expected to run into Cedric like this, but now that she had, she realized something—she wanted to have a good relationship with him. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
After all, he was Evander’s friend. And even though she didn’t know Cedric well, she knew enough to understand that he mattered to her husband. That alone was reason enough to try.
Besides, he didn’t seem so bad. A little too smooth, maybe, but not unpleasant. If anything, his easygoing nature was a stark contrast to Evander’s usual guarded demeanor. It made her wonder how the two of them had become friends in the first place.
Delphinia smiled. "Just some shopping. And you?"
Cedric glanced toward the entrance of the mall. "A friend of mine had an event here. My office isn’t far, so I thought I’d drop by."
Delphinia nodded, but something about his wording made her pause. Before she could ask more, Cedric adjusted the cuff of his blazer. "Anyway, I should get going. It was nice seeing you both."
With that, he turned and walked away.
Valerie watched him leave before huffing. "Cedric... he was close with Evander and Lydia back in the day."
Delphinia’s brows furrowed slightly. "A friend’s event, huh?"
She glanced toward the mall’s entrance, a small suspicion forming in her mind.
Could it have been Lydia?
