Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 145: Claws Out
The next morning, after dropping off their kids at school, Delphinia and Maya decided to spend some time together. It had been a while since Delphinia had enjoyed a casual outing like this, and she was grateful for Maya’s company.
Unlike most of the other mothers, Maya was straightforward, fierce, and unapologetically herself. It was a quality Delphinia admired—something she, too, wanted to embody when facing the scrutinizing eyes of the elite wives and mothers.
"Alright, what’s the plan?" Maya asked as they walked through the mall’s spacious corridors, her sunglasses perched atop her head. "Are we getting coffee first, or are we diving straight into shopping?"
Delphinia smiled, linking her arm with Maya’s. "Straight to shopping. I need a few new pieces for my wardrobe, and I want to see if I can finally put my ’tough’ face on."
Maya chuckled. "Tough face? For what?"
Delphinia sighed. "You know how some of those mothers look at me. Like I don’t belong because I’m young. Like I’m some little girl who doesn’t know what she’s doing."
Maya scoffed, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "Let them try to say something to your face. I’ll handle them."
Delphinia laughed, shaking her head. "That’s exactly why I love hanging out with you. But I think I need to learn how to handle them myself. Maybe if I show them I’m not an easy target, they’ll back off."
Maya smirked. "That’s the spirit. Now, let’s get you some power outfits."
They entered a high-end boutique, immediately greeted by racks of gorgeous designer pieces. The scent of expensive perfume filled the air as soft instrumental music played in the background. Delphinia wandered through the racks, her fingers grazing over delicate fabrics, her eyes scanning for something fresh yet elegant.
"Ooh, this is cute," Delphinia murmured, pulling out a cream-colored top with lace detailing. She held it against her frame, tilting her head in consideration.
Maya, standing beside her, nodded approvingly. "That is cute. Try it on."
Delphinia smiled at Maya’s encouragement and made her way to the fitting rooms. The boutique’s dressing area was just as elegant as the rest of the store—soft lighting, plush seating, and full-length mirrors that flattered more than they criticized.
She slipped into the cream-colored top, adjusting the delicate lace against her skin. It fit perfectly, hugging her just right without feeling too tight. Turning slightly, she admired the way it draped over her frame. Yeah, this is definitely coming home with me.
Satisfied, she changed back into her clothes and stepped out, expecting to see Maya waiting for her. But to her surprise, the spot where Maya had been standing was empty.
Delphinia frowned, glancing around the boutique. Maybe Maya had wandered off to check out another section?
Then a sudden commotion broke out across the boutique. Raised voices and sharp tones filled the air.
"I saw it first!" a woman’s voice snapped.
"No, you didn’t! I had it in my hand before you even walked over!" another voice shot back.
Delphinia turned to see what was going on. Her eyes widened in surprise when she spotted Maya standing near one of the clothing racks, locked in an argument with another woman whose back was turned to Delphinia. The tension in the air was thick, and several shoppers had already paused their browsing to watch the scene unfold.
Delphinia quickly walked over, concern etching her features. "Maya, what’s going on?"
Maya let out an exasperated sigh. "This lady here tried to snatch the dress I was already holding."
The woman turned around, and Delphinia’s stomach twisted in instant recognition.
Adalaine.
Of course.
Adalaine’s expression twisted with distaste the moment she saw Delphinia. "Oh, what a surprise," she said, voice dripping with mockery. "I should’ve known you’d be around."
Delphinia raised a brow, unfazed. "Likewise. You seem to always show up in the worst places."
Adalaine scoffed. "Still got that sharp tongue, I see." She turned her gaze back to Maya. "You should be careful who you associate with. This one?" She gestured toward Delphinia with distaste. "She’s nothing but a—"
"Watch it," Maya interrupted, stepping closer, her tone dangerously low. "You do not want to finish that sentence."
Adalaine narrowed her eyes. "Oh? And what exactly are you going to do?"
Maya smirked. "You don’t want to find out."
Delphinia, though appreciating Maya’s fierce loyalty, decided to take the reins. She let out a soft chuckle and crossed her arms. "You know, Adalaine, it’s really fascinating how you manage to make every encounter unpleasant. It’s almost like it’s your specialty."
Adalaine sneered. "Spare me your little speeches, Delphinia. I just wanted this dress." She lifted the garment in question.
Delphinia shrugged. "Too bad Maya got to it first. I know you’re used to taking whatever you want, but unfortunately for you, this isn’t one of those times."
Adalaine’s face darkened, but before she could say anything, Maya added with a smirk, "And if you try, I promise I’ll make sure you regret it."
Several onlookers murmured, some clearly entertained by the drama. Adalaine’s cheeks flushed with anger and embarrassment. Huffing, she threw the dress back onto the rack and turned on her heel.
"This place is filled with nothing but trash anyway," she muttered before storming out of the boutique.
The moment she was gone, Maya let out a dramatic sigh and placed the dress back into her own hands. "I really wanted to slap her."
Delphinia exhaled, shaking her head with a small smile. "I know. Me too."
Maya turned to her, grinning. "Hey, at least you held your ground. That’s a start."
Delphinia chuckled, feeling a sense of satisfaction. "Yeah, it is."
As they walked away from the scene, Delphinia told herself that if—and hopefully it was a big if—she ever crossed paths with Adalaine again, she wouldn’t hold herself back. If Adalaine tried to provoke her again, she wouldn’t just stand there and take it.
No mercy.
Delphinia smirked. No mercy. It had a nice ring to it.
