Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 147: Doubt
Cedric leaned back in his leather chair, eyes scanning the document on his laptop screen with keen interest. The air in his office was cool, the scent of fresh coffee lingering from the untouched cup sitting on his desk. The silence was only disturbed by the occasional ticking of the wall clock and the faint rustling of paper from outside his door.
A knock echoed through the room, precise and firm, cutting through his thoughts. Cedric glanced up, his sharp blue eyes narrowing slightly before he spoke.
"Come in."
The door opened smoothly, revealing his secretary, Giselle. Dressed in a tailored beige dress that hugged her slim figure, she walked in with an air of professionalism, her heels clicking against the polished wooden floor. In her hands, she carried a neatly stacked pile of documents.
"Sir, here are the reports you requested," she said, her voice crisp but pleasant as she placed the files on his desk. "Also, I’ve completed the task you assigned me the other day."
Cedric arched a brow. "Really?"
Giselle nodded, a small smirk playing at the corner of her lips. "Yes. You can expect to see everything when I send it to your email shortly."
"Good job," Cedric said, his tone curt yet approving. "You may leave."
Giselle gave a polite nod before turning on her heel and exiting the office, closing the door behind her with a soft click. Cedric wasted no time. He pulled his laptop closer and refreshed his inbox. As expected, a new email from Giselle appeared at the top of the list. The subject line was simple: Requested Information on Delphinia Harrington-Walton.
Cedric opened the file, his eyes scanning over the gathered details. His fingers drummed against the surface of his desk as he read.
Delphinia.
Evander’s wife.
He didn’t know why, but something about that woman made him uneasy. He had to know more. Was she simply another socialite who got lucky, or was there something more beneath the surface?
He hated to admit it, but he had never done a background check this seriously on anyone before. Not even when dealing with business rivals or potential threats.
But this? This was different.
It wasn’t like he had any other choice. Digging for information directly from Evander was out of the question—he wasn’t stupid enough to try that. Evander was notoriously private, and if Cedric so much as hinted at prying into his personal affairs, it would raise questions he wasn’t ready to answer.
So here he was, sifting through pages of information on Delphinia Harrington-Walton like she was some kind of puzzle waiting to be solved.
He continued reading, analyzing every detail—her background, her education, her connections. Nothing extraordinary. Delphinia indeed from a particularly powerful family, but she didn;t she have any remarkable influence in the business world. However, one thing stood out.
She had divorced Kai Robinson only days before marrying Evander.
Cedric’s brows furrowed. That’s fishy.
Did Evander have a relationship with her while she was still married? If so, did that mean Delphinia had cheated on her husband? His fingers tapped against his desk as he mulled over the possibilities.
"No," he muttered under his breath, shaking his head. He didn’t really care about infidelity—it was none of his business. But it was worth noting that Delphinia’s ex-husband, Kai Robinson, was nothing but trash. Cedric had met the man before, and his impression had been far from positive.
Kai was lazy, arrogant, and entitled, a man who lived off his family name rather than his own achievements. The Robinsons had arranged the marriage for strategic gain, not love. Cedric had never believed that union would last.
But still...
Evander had plenty of options. He had wealth, power, and a name that could attract any woman he wanted. Why Delphinia?
On paper, she was exactly the kind of woman who should blend into Evander’s world effortlessly. And yet... something about her didn’t sit right with him.
Cedric’s fingers drummed against the desk. Evander wasn’t the kind of man who let people in easily, yet here he was, bringing Delphinia into his life, his home. That meant something. And if it meant something to Evander, then it would mean something to others as well.
Cedric leaned back, exhaling slowly. He remembered the last time he saw Evander and Ashton. Both father and son seemed to genuinely care for Delphinia. That was what worried him. If Delphinia had somehow managed to win over Evander and Ashton, then she had already planted herself deeply in their lives.
That could be a problem.
Cedric ran a hand through his neatly combed dark hair before pinching the bridge of his nose. He wasn’t the type to interfere in another man’s marriage. If Evander wanted to play house, that was his business. But Lydia...
His gaze darkened slightly as his thoughts turned to his dear friend.
Lydia had confided in him—about how she wanted to fix things with Ashton, to be closer to her son. But now... with Delphinia in the picture, things might get complicated.
He couldn’t lie to himself—he was worried. Lydia’s relationship with Ashton had been fragile for years, and it had taken her a long time to work up the courage to try again. But Ashton was stubborn, and Evander was just as protective. Cedric wasn’t sure where Delphinia fit into all of this, but he knew one thing for certain—Lydia wouldn’t back down so easily.
And that wasn’t the only problem.
Lydia still cared for Evander. That much was obvious. And Cedric had always been protective of her. He wouldn’t stand by and let her suffer any more than she already had. If Delphinia became an obstacle, he would have to do something about it.
Closing his laptop with a soft click, Cedric let out a deep sigh.
"Let’s just hope she doesn’t become a problem," he muttered to himself. But deep down, he had a feeling this wasn’t going to be simple.
And Cedric never ignored his instincts.
