After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 6: The Bride’s Homecoming
"I’m not getting a divorce!" Eliza refused flatly.
Her two children were still under the control of the Sutton family, and she needed her status as Madam Lockwood to get them back.
’Once she and her children are reunited—who would give a damn about Shane Lockwood?’
’She wouldn’t stay in this crisis-ridden Lockwood family for a second longer than she had to.’
Seeing Shane Lockwood’s expression darken, she said, "I will divorce you, but not now. Please give me some time. Three months. Let’s agree on three months."
After Eliza finished speaking, she closed her eyes without waiting for Shane to respond.
Her nerves had been stretched taut all day, and holding the soft, warm child in her arms, she quickly fell asleep.
The dark room was silent, amplifying his senses. Shane Lockwood became aware of a faint, cool fragrance drifting toward him.
It was very familiar.
It was the scent of the toiletries he always used, yet it wasn’t quite the same. It was mingled with Eliza’s own scent, and for some reason, it reminded him of Vivian.
Five years ago, he had been set up. It was Vivian who had given herself to him to save him, and who later gave birth to Emmett.
He had wanted to marry her and take responsibility, but his grandfather had disagreed.
Heartbroken, Vivian Forrest had left for Country M two years ago.
Strangely, in all their interactions since, he had never been able to recapture the spark he’d felt for Vivian Forrest that night.
「The next day.」
Eliza came downstairs holding Emmett’s small hand. As Mrs. Lockwood watched the two of them approach, her eyes couldn’t help but moisten.
Mrs. Lockwood pressed a Black Gold Card into Eliza’s hand.
This type of Black Gold Card had a minimum limit of fifty million. Eliza immediately refused, "Mom, I can’t take this."
"You just called me Mom, so why can’t you accept it? Eliza, even though you’re my daughter-in-law, in my heart, you’re no different from Pearl."
Mrs. Lockwood had a son and a daughter, and Pearl Lockwood was that daughter—the treasured young lady of the Lockwood family.
"Take it."
Eliza felt she couldn’t refuse again. "Thank you, Mom."
Emmett tilted his small face up and said innocently, "Thank you, Grandma."
Mrs. Lockwood teased him, "My sweet grandson, what are you thanking me for?"
Emmett said seriously, "Grandma gave money to Mama. Now that Mama has money, she can spend more time with Emmett."
The little one said in a soft voice, "Grandma, you’re the best. Thank you, Grandma."
Her grandson’s adorable antics made Mrs. Lockwood’s heart melt. "You silly boy."
Minnie chimed in playfully from the side. "You’re mistaken, Madam. Our young master is very clever, not silly at all."
"Yes, yes. My Emmett is the smartest of all."
Just then, a staff member pushed Shane Lockwood out of the elevator in his wheelchair.
His presence was powerful. Even in a wheelchair, his posture was perfectly straight, radiating the air of a king.
Eliza’s smile faltered. Her fingers tightened instinctively, the edge of the credit card digging sharply into her palm.
The moment Mrs. Lockwood saw her son, she hurried over and caressed his face. "This is wonderful, Shane. You’re finally awake."
No matter how arrogant and untamable Shane was, he softened in the presence of the mother who had raised him. "I’m sorry, Mom. I made you worry."
"What are you talking about? You’re my son. Who would I worry about if not you?"
Just then, Mrs. Chandler came to announce that breakfast was ready.
Mrs. Lockwood looked at Eliza, who was standing quietly to one side, and said, "Eliza, help Shane wash his hands."
Eliza acknowledged her and pushed Shane’s wheelchair toward the restroom.
Worried that his father would bully his mother, Emmett trailed after them like a little shadow.
Watching her family together, whole and complete, Mrs. Lockwood’s eyes suddenly grew moist again.
Ever since Shane had fallen ill, she hadn’t dared to even dream of such a scene.
Mrs. Chandler, who had long been by Mrs. Lockwood’s side, said, "Madam, you must dry your tears. Today is a joyous day for our branch of the family."
"Yes, it’s a joyous day for us. I’m happy, so very happy." As she spoke, she was once again overcome with emotion.
Just one day ago, when Emmett had fallen into the lake, she had been in utter despair, believing that she and Emmett would both perish in the wake of Shane’s death. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
And who knew how the second branch of the family would have tormented her dear Pearl.
But then, against all odds, Shane had miraculously woken up.
After breakfast, Mrs. Lockwood said to Eliza, "You should be visiting your family today, shouldn’t you? I had Mrs. Chandler prepare some gifts for you to take along."
Eliza glanced over; they were all expensive tonics, a very considerate selection.
Mrs. Lockwood took Eliza’s hand and said, "Shane has only just woken up, so he isn’t strong enough to go with you. You’ll have to go alone this time. Please ask your family not to take offense."
"I want to go with Mama," Emmett said, his little face full of anticipation.
"No," Shane refused without a moment’s hesitation.
"Papa!" Emmett pleaded.
But Shane was resolute this time.
’It was one thing for them to be in the Lockwood estate; no matter how close Eliza got to Emmett, she couldn’t stir up much trouble. But letting her take Emmett away was absolutely out of the question.’
"If you cause any more trouble, I’ll send you abroad to live with your aunt, and you won’t be allowed to come back, ever!"
"I hate you, Papa!" Emmett yelled in a fury before running off.
Eliza’s heart ached for him, but she didn’t go after him. She was going back to the Sutton residence to see her children, and it would be inconvenient to have the little boy with her.
...
The moment Eliza stepped through the main door of the Sutton residence, a basin of cold water was dumped over her head.
Caught completely off guard, Eliza was soaked to the skin and let out a startled cry.
"Sister, this is pomelo water I had someone prepare just for you, to wash away all the bad luck. After all, you’ve been in prison. We can’t have you bringing that filth back into the house." Dressed in designer clothes, Amelia Sutton looked down her nose at the drenched Eliza and burst out laughing.
Eliza wiped the water from her face and stared at Amelia, her expression frigid.
Amelia Sutton and Cedric Sutton were her half-siblings, sharing the same father. One was six months younger than her, the other two years older. When Eliza’s ailing mother discovered that Harrison Sutton had fathered two children out of wedlock—and that the boy was older than his own legitimate daughter—she fell into a deep depression and passed away when Eliza was just seven years old.
Before the traditional seven-day mourning period for her mother was even over, Harrison Sutton married Amelia and Cedric’s mother, bringing her into the family. From that day forward, Eliza had lost not only her mother, but her home as well.
"If the Sutton family doesn’t welcome me, then I’ll just leave."
With that, she turned to leave without a second thought.
"Don’t go, Eliza, please don’t go." Mrs. Sutton hurried forward, shot Amelia a glare, and said with a wide smile, "Your younger sister is just a child. She doesn’t know any better, so don’t stoop to her level."
"Right. A 300-month-old baby. She is rather young, I suppose. I can be tolerant."
Her calm voice was dripping with sarcasm. Amelia instantly blew up, but Mrs. Sutton stopped her before she could lash out.
"Your father has been waiting for you since early this morning," she said, pulling Eliza along with exaggerated warmth.
In the living room, Harrison Sutton was sitting on the sofa, sipping tea. He greeted Eliza with a cheerful smile and gestured for her to sit.
"Eliza, you’ve done well. Master Lockwood woke up right after you married into the family. You really are a good-luck charm."
"For that, I have Mr. Sutton to thank," Eliza replied, her words laced with sarcasm.
Harrison Sutton looked displeased. Mrs. Sutton immediately cut in, "Eliza, you know how hard it is to do business these days, and the Sutton Group is facing great difficulties. Now that you’re Madam Lockwood, you have to help our family out."
When Eliza didn’t respond, she pressed on. "As long as Master Lockwood is willing to hand the Azure Dragon Bay project over to the Sutton Group, our company will become a first-rate powerhouse. When that happens, as a Miss Sutton, wouldn’t that bring you a great deal of prestige as well?"
If they could secure the Azure Dragon Bay project, the Sutton Group stood to make a profit of at least two billion. More importantly, that was just the start. Once the entire project was complete, the total profits would be well over ten billion.
The Sutton Group would finally hit the big time!
"It sounds wonderful. But I refuse."
