After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 81: You Can Go Now
"I’m sorry," Sherry Caldwell said, sticking her tongue out playfully. "You can’t blame me. It’s mainly because the baby in my belly wanted to see its daddy. As its mother, what could I do? I just had to bring this little rascal to see you."
Sean Hughes tapped her on the nose. "If our baby knew it had to take the fall for its mother this early on, it would definitely cry in protest."
Sherry Caldwell spread her hands, a picture of innocence. "Well, that’s its fate. Who can it blame when its mother was so desperate to see its daddy?"
Sean Hughes was amused by Sherry Caldwell’s words, and his gentle, refined face grew even softer with his smile.
Sherry Caldwell said, "Silas, do you want to touch the baby in my belly? I think I just felt it move."
"Really?" Silas Sutton was pleasantly surprised. "Really? Let me feel."
"Silas!" Amelia Sutton couldn’t help but cry out, her voice on the verge of tears.
Silas Sutton turned to see Amelia Sutton staring at him, her face deathly pale, her eyes filled with disbelief and sorrow.
"Amelia," Silas Sutton said apologetically. "I wasn’t intentionally ignoring you."
Sherry Caldwell nodded vigorously. "Miss Sutton, you have to believe Silas. He definitely wasn’t ignoring you on purpose. He just saw me and the baby and couldn’t help himself."
Amelia Sutton was certain she saw the blatant provocation in Sherry Caldwell’s eyes, and the mocking smile on her lips seemed designed to ensure Amelia would get angry.
As expected, Amelia Sutton was stunned with anger and strode toward Sherry Caldwell.
Sherry Caldwell shrank back into Silas Sutton’s arms, looking frightened.
Silas Sutton instinctively wrapped his arms around Sherry Caldwell, holding her in a protective embrace.
Just as she was about to slap her, Amelia Sutton barely managed to regain her senses.
Remembering her mother’s prior instructions, Amelia Sutton forced a smile. "Sherry, you’re here! Why didn’t you call earlier? We could have had Silas pick you up. It’s so dangerous for you to travel alone. If you hurt the baby, wouldn’t everyone be heartbroken?"
Sherry Caldwell was taken aback. ’She hadn’t expected the pampered Miss Sutton to suddenly use her brain.’
Hearing Amelia Sutton’s words, Silas Sutton’s guilt toward her resurfaced. He took her hand. "Amelia, you’re too good to me. Thank you for being so understanding."
Amelia Sutton pouted. "What are you talking about? You’re my fiancé. If I’m not understanding, who will be? How about this: you stay here and enjoy the show with Sherry. I’ll just go find any seat for myself."
"How could I do that? I promised to watch the show with you tonight. As for Sherry, I’ll make other arrangements for her."
Amelia Sutton glanced at Sherry Caldwell and saw her expression sour. She couldn’t help but sneer inwardly.
’What a fool. Did she really think she could win against me?’
...
Eliza Sutton and Eva Monroe went backstage, only to see several paramedics rushing away with a stretcher.
Eliza Sutton grabbed a staff member and asked, "What happened?"
"A model had a stomachache and was sent to the hospital."
Eliza Sutton frowned.
Eva Monroe was also worried. "We’re suddenly short one model. Won’t that leave a hole in the new product launch?"
"It won’t. Innis will have arranged for a backup model." Just as Eliza Sutton finished speaking, Saul Reynolds’s voice boomed from the dressing room.
"Can’t make it? You’re telling me you can’t make it now...? Don’t you ’sorry’ me! The launch is about to start, and you’re not coming. What are we supposed to do...? Fine! You just wait!"
Saul Reynolds finished his call and stormed out of the dressing room, radiating fury. Everyone who saw him instinctively dodged out of his way.
When they saw Eliza Sutton not only failing to dodge but actually walking toward Saul Reynolds, a glint of schadenfreude appeared in their eyes.
Soon, they would witness yet another young woman who didn’t know her place get chewed out by Saul Reynolds until she cried.
Eliza Sutton asked, "General Manager Reynolds, is there a problem with a model?"
"Inn..." Saul Reynolds started to say her name, then caught himself. "Yes, the backup model has an emergency and can’t make it. Do you have anyone to recommend?"
"Yes, I do." Eliza Sutton pushed Eva Monroe forward. "Her. Put her on."
Eva Monroe, completely blindsided by being suddenly pushed forward, was the picture of bewilderment. "Me? Isla Sutton, what kind of joke is this?"
"I’m not joking. You’re a great fit for Innis’s design aesthetic."
Before Saul Reynolds could speak, a mocking voice cut in.
"Some Z-list nobody gets to walk the runway in an Innis original? If this is the caliber of models used for the new Innis collection, I predict Innis will soon fall from The Divine Altar. If that’s the case, then excuse me, but I’m out!"
The one who spoke so mockingly was the lead model, an actress named Kiara Wynn.
Although she wasn’t a professional model, she was an A-list actress. Combined with her solid professional skills, she was practically unrivaled in the current entertainment industry.
There was even a saying circulating in the entertainment world: When Kiara appears, who can compete?
What was even more feared were her fans. They were young and acted recklessly, earning them the nickname "the Wynn-atics" from industry insiders.
Normally, changing models was a common occurrence, and even if Kiara Wynn looked down on the replacement, she wouldn’t have said anything.
But the replacement just had to be Eva Monroe.
Kiara Wynn and Eva Monroe had debuted around the same time. They were the same type of actress, competing for similar roles, but Eva was prettier, so her career had taken off much faster than Kiara’s at the beginning.
That was until three years ago, when she and Eva Monroe joined the same film production.
Except Eva Monroe was the female lead, while she was just a nameless extra.
But Eva Monroe was too principled. She refused to drink with investors, refused to accept the "unspoken rules," and offended the producer. She was kicked off the production. Kiara Wynn, on the other hand, was willing to do what it took and seized the opportunity to become the female lead. From then on, she became an overnight sensation.
Even though Kiara Wynn had now reached a level of success she once couldn’t even dream of, she still felt a surge of resentment whenever she saw Eva Monroe. She couldn’t stop thinking about the straightness of Eva’s back as she turned and walked away from the producer that day.
That was something she would never have in her lifetime.
So, every time she saw Eva Monroe, she felt deeply resentful.
And since she was resentful, she had to crush Eva Monroe completely. Only by keeping Eva Monroe in the mud could she prove that her own choices were the right ones.
"General Manager Reynolds, now it’s your turn to choose." Kiara Wynn said this, but in reality, she didn’t think for a second that Saul Reynolds would choose Eva Monroe.
Of course, neither did Eva Monroe.
"General Manager Reynolds, my friend was just kidding..."
"I choose Miss Eva Monroe."
"You choose Eva Monroe? General Manager Reynolds, are you sure? I’ll say it again: if you choose her, I’m not walking in this show."
"Yes, I heard you clearly." Saul Reynolds raised a hand and said, "Miss Yorke, you may leave."
