After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 102: Clash Between Two Men
After hanging up the phone, I didn’t even want to sit in the living room.
I snuck out and started wandering around the neighborhood. The neighborhood was decorated for New Year, with bright red everywhere. A few kids were playing with firecrackers, laughing and making a ruckus. The cold air carried the pungent smell of leftover fireworks, truly capturing the New Year vibe.
Before I knew it, I had walked out of the neighborhood gates and was wandering aimlessly down the street like a vagrant.
Suddenly, I keenly spotted Henry Preston’s car parked at the intersection not far ahead.
Why is he here? Could he be here to find me?
I felt a bit anxious.
Soon, I realized I was overthinking because I saw the passenger door open and Azure Vaughn stepped out of the car.
Henry also got out from the driver’s seat. The two of them said something by the roadside and then got back into the car, driving toward me.
The moment Henry saw me, he slammed on the brakes.
He quickly got out of the car, walked around the front, and approached me. His handsome face slightly furrowed, brows knitted, unclear if it was because of Azure or me.
"Happy New Year." I smiled confidently.
"Mm," Henry responded, then asked me, "When are you going back to Maplewood Gardens after the New Year?"
Behind him, Azure rolled down the car window, looking at us apprehensively and uneasily.
Strange, didn’t Azure tell him that I’m going abroad after New Year?
But it’s normal. With Henry’s current indecisive attitude, knowing I’m going abroad might cause more issues, so Azure wouldn’t cause unnecessary trouble.
It’s better to deal with it later; by then, who in a foreign land could manage so much?
I glanced at Azure, then replied coolly, "We’ll see. Don’t worry about me so much, just take care of her first."
On the first day of the New Year, did the two of them elope?
"She..." Henry instinctively turned to look at Azure. When he found her watching him, his tone grew unnatural, "Mm, I’ll take her back first."
"Miss Hathaway, don’t misunderstand." Azure spoke sincerely, "I slipped out when my parents went for New Year’s visits to get some air. My parents misunderstood it as being coaxed by Mr. Preston to run away from home, causing trouble for him, so he came to find me to take me back."
Ah, another understanding apology.
Azure wants to maintain her image as a kind and innocent girl in front of Henry.
I curled my lips, "Mm, got it, you all head back then."
"Goodbye, Miss Hathaway." Azure waved at me.
I pretended not to see her and turned to leave. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
After getting tired of wandering, I returned to my uncle’s house. Dylan Dawson was also getting up to leave, and I secretly rejoiced that my timing was impeccable.
Who would have thought my dad would say, "Zoe, Crystal wants you to visit her house. Why don’t you go with Young Mr. Donovan, and remember to buy some gifts, don’t go empty-handed."
"Dad, aren’t we going to Aunt’s house?" I was shocked.
"Your uncle and I can go. It’s so far, and it’s tiring to drive. You can go play at Crystal’s house. We should be back tomorrow or the day after, so live as you please for the next few days," my dad said absurdly.
Spending New Year’s alone at someone else’s house? Are you kidding me?
Even if Crystal Dawson is my best friend, it shouldn’t be like this!
Dylan smiled, gently beckoning to me, "Let’s go, Zoe."
"Dad, Mom, I miss Aunt, I want to pay her a New Year’s visit." I refused. Even a blind person could see what my parents meant.
These two are so unreasonable. I haven’t even divorced, and they are already eyeing the next son-in-law without considering what I think. What happened to respecting me?
My mom said, "Another person means another mouth to feed; your aunt can’t be bothered to cook for guests, let’s go."
"Let’s go, let’s go." Aunt hooked her arm around my mom’s and was the first to open the door and head out.
If I recall correctly, ever since my aunt married my uncle, she hasn’t worked, staying home as a full-time housewife, enjoying a simple, carefree life with a love for cooking.
Claiming the culinary expert aunt is too lazy to cook just because I’m visiting for New Year’s feels like an insult to my intelligence.
However, these people couldn’t care less about me. They got in pairs into the car and disappeared into the neighborhood’s festive decorations in a flash.
"Is it because of me that you don’t want to come to my house?" Dylan asked from behind me, sounding a bit disheartened.
"No, no, I just feel it’s not quite right to visit someone else’s house during New Year." I waved it off.
Dylan chuckled, "Paying New Year’s visits is a traditional custom in our country, how can it be wrong?"
Fine, I accepted it.
Dylan’s car was parked outside, so we chatted as we walked out. As I was about to get in the car, a honking sound came from across the street.
I looked in the direction of the sound. How come Henry has returned?
He got out of the car, a cloud on his face, and strode toward me.
The smile on Dylan’s face disappeared when he saw Henry.
"Henry!" I noticed something was off. I immediately stepped forward to block Henry.
"Move." Henry glanced down at me. His eyes were filled with anger.
"What are you trying to do?" I wouldn’t let go; I even grabbed onto his clothes.
Dylan was just as troublesome. Even knowing I was trying to keep Henry from approaching him, he deliberately took a few steps forward, "Henry, we meet again."
Henry was already hot-tempered, and Dylan’s tone was provocatively taunting, so he directly wanted to make a move.
Although I’m nearly six feet tall, facing these two tall guys, I hardly had any advantage. Plus, being slim, I could easily be squashed by them.
"Come on, I’ve been wanting to hit you for a long time!" Dylan flared up as well. Five years ago, he openly told me that Henry wasn’t a good person and had been hostile toward Henry ever since.
With that, the two were about to physically confront each other. In my anxiety, I blocked one and stopped the other, but somehow, one of them swung a hand, pushing me to the ground.
I landed my butt on the wet road, twisting my foot, and the pain almost brought tears to my eyes.
Seeing the situation, Dylan panicked and quickly came over to offer his hand for help.
Henry was faster. He scooped me up horizontally, then glared fiercely at Dylan, "We’re not divorced yet, stay away from her!"
"..." Dylan’s hand dropped, his gaze heavy upon me.
In that moment of embarrassment, I couldn’t care about anything else, letting Henry carry me into the car. Once inside, he took off his coat and handed it to me, "Take off your jacket and toss it in the back, wear mine."
My jacket was indeed dirty and wet at the back, uncomfortable to wear, so I took it off and threw it on the back seat. But I didn’t want to wear Henry’s coat, "I’m fine, I’m not cold, it’s quite warm in the car."
"Stop babbling." Henry scolded, then roughly draped the coat over my shoulders.
He himself only wore a plain shirt and a black vest inside, very gentlemanly attire.
I really should cherish my body and not endure hardship, so I didn’t hesitate any longer. When needed, I wore it.
