Chapter 104: Chapter 104: A Talk with Ivan Underwood

I give up on Crystal Dawson and can only turn a deaf ear to her wild fantasies.

During that time, my mom sent me a message asking if I had arrived at The Dawson Family’s home, and I replied: Yes, I’m here.

After that, Crystal Dawson and I started chatting while watching TV. Somehow, we started talking about Azure Vaughn again. I told her about last night’s transaction screenshot and the gift from Henry Preston today.

Crystal Dawson was so worked up, "Henry Preston is trying to have his cake and eat it too! Zoe, listen to me, we don’t need men who don’t respect themselves!"

"I’m planning not to," I coolly replied while munching on sunflower seeds.

"Are you really planning to go abroad after New Year?" Crystal Dawson hugged me tightly, "Boo hoo hoo... How am I supposed to let you go?"

"It’s not like I won’t be coming back. I’ll definitely come back whenever I can to keep our revolutionary friendship strong!" I hugged Crystal Dawson’s head and gave her a kiss on her smooth forehead.

Crystal Dawson quickly cheered up. With money comes freedom; if she misses me, she can come find me and play, plus enjoy a trip abroad.

We chatted and chatted until Dylan Dawson’s voice came from the dining room, "Crystal, Zoe, dinner’s ready!"

Crystal Dawson responded and then helped me, who was hobbling, over to the dining room for dinner.

I have to say, Dylan Dawson’s cooking skills are excellent. Five dishes and a soup, every single one looks, smells, and tastes great.

The most amazing thing is that all of it is exactly what I like to eat.

He thoughtfully served rice for both me and Crystal Dawson, and gave each of us a bowl of soup as well.

At the dining table, we were having a delightful conversation. As long as Crystal Dawson doesn’t play matchmaker, Dylan Dawson and I can actually chat quite well.

But she is unreliable. Throughout the meal, she didn’t say anything inappropriate, but at some point, she secretly took a photo of Dylan serving me food, and me thanking him.

If I hadn’t checked my Moments on social media after dinner, I wouldn’t have known that Crystal Dawson was at it again.

"Crystal Dawson!!" I shouted in frustration.

"What?" Crystal Dawson looked at me innocently.

I showed her my phone screen, where she’d posted the update, making Dylan Dawson and me look very "lovey-dovey."

The caption was even more ridiculous: Someone’s got pink bubbles floating around them!

Crystal Dawson shrank back and sat a bit farther away, "My brother’s the one with pink bubbles around him, look at that silly expression..."

I really wanted to tell Dylan, who was washing fruit, that he has a wonderful sister.

"Will you behave? I’m a married woman, your brother is a golden bachelor. Can you stop causing trouble for him?" I pinched Crystal Dawson.

Crystal Dawson grimaced, "I’m benefiting him, not causing trouble!"

"If your parents find out, they’ll beat you!" I reminded her.

"My parents just want my brother not to remain a lifelong bachelor." Crystal Dawson stubbornly replied.

Just as I was lecturing Crystal Dawson, my phone rang. It was a call from Ivan Underwood.

Why is he calling? I was a bit puzzled, but I answered the call anyway.

"Happy New Year." Ivan Underwood was rather polite.

"Happy New Year. Dr. Underwood, aren’t you on duty serving as an angel in white this holiday?" I asked.

He was silent for two seconds, "No, aren’t you at home?"

"You mean at Maplewood Gardens?"

"Yes."

Well, I’m really not there, and I’ve now designated that place as unlucky, staying as far away from it as possible.

I curiously asked, "Are you coming to wish me a Happy New Year?"

Come to think of it, it felt a bit weird for Ivan Underwood to wish me a Happy New Year, suddenly making me seem like a senior to him.

Turns out I was mistaken, he replied, "No, I just saw Crystal Dawson’s Moments and found out you’re at The Dawson Family’s place."

So that’s it, I glared at Crystal Dawson again, but she was busy giggling at her phone, not knowing what she was looking at.

"Right, my parents had something to do, so I’m here at Crystal Dawson’s house to liven things up since I was feeling lonely and bored," I said nonchalantly.

"Henry Preston isn’t with you?" Ivan Underwood asked, sounding puzzled.

"Why would he be with me? He can’t be in two places at once, and our country doesn’t promote polygamy." I said plainly, "The person he should be with now is Azure Vaughn."

Ivan Underwood didn’t say anything, and I suddenly realized I hit a sensitive spot for him. I quickly changed the subject, "Why are we even talking about him? Where are you now?"

Ivan Underwood finally continued, "At home."

"Give my regards to your parents!" I said politely, albeit pretending.

Honestly, I’m not familiar with Ivan’s parents, and I haven’t even seen what they look like.

Ivan Underwood laughed, "Okay."

Suddenly, I remembered something – does Ivan know about Winter Tate?

As Henry Preston’s best friend, he should know a little, right?

I wanted to ask, but didn’t know how to start. Besides, with Crystal Dawson still around, I didn’t want to tell them about Winter Tate just yet, fearing they’d get so worked up, they’d have health issues, and that would be all my fault.

"Dr. Underwood, when do you start work again? I think my heart’s acting up again, planning to come for a checkup." I asked.

"Tomorrow." Ivan Underwood answered quickly, which was surprising since tomorrow’s just the second day of the new year. Are doctors this overworked?

And with my leg, I can’t drive, maybe I’ll ask Crystal Dawson to take me. I really want to talk with Ivan Underwood about Winter Tate face-to-face.

"Then I’ll visit the hospital tomorrow." I decided without much thought.

After hanging up, I looked at Crystal Dawson, who was still giggling.

Who is she chatting with to be so happy? I shuffled closer to her, trying to take a peek, but she was quick, and "whoosh," she put her phone away.

I suspiciously asked, "Crystal, are you in a relationship?"

The men before were just passing by, not even real relationships.

Crystal Dawson’s face turned red as she awkwardly denied, "Not at all, he’s just a backup plan, but I find his conversations interesting."

"Oh~" I replied meaningfully, then blinked, "Crystal, are you superstitious?"

Crystal Dawson shook her head.

"Alright, then come with me to the hospital tomorrow." I cheerfully said.

"... That’s a bit unlucky," Crystal Dawson rolled her eyes dramatically, "But what can I do, I’m your friend, right?"

Dylan Dawson finished washing the fruit and brought it out. The three of us snacked and played games for a while, and time flew by.

Early the next morning, I hobbled into Crystal Dawson’s car. Originally, she wanted her brother to take me, but I shut her mouth immediately.

Once we got to the hospital, I successfully registered to see Ivan Underwood, and during the consultation, I went in alone while Crystal Dawson waited outside.

With fewer patients during the New Year’s holidays, the hospital was much less crowded, and there weren’t any patients waiting after me, allowing me a few more minutes to chat openly, "Do you know Winter Tate?"

When Ivan heard this name, his expression noticeably changed, "Where did you hear that?"

"My mother-in-law told me." I replied, "She was Henry Preston’s true first love, right?"

Ivan Underwood stared at me for a few seconds before asking, "Are you free to meet tonight?"

"Yes." I eagerly wanted to know more about Winter Tate.
