After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 110: Pregnancy
"Henry should be there too," I added.
Crystal Dawson was so angry her nose flared like a bull’s, snorting as she cursed, "Of course, why else would she crash the car right after New Year’s? Just to be with Henry, right? Now that you’ve divorced Henry, she’s afraid of gossip at home so she’s decided to study abroad, gaining credentials while avoiding the rumors."
"And Henry actually accompanied her here, it must be true love," Leah Lane sighed.
He’s incredibly busy at work every day, yet he finds time to personally accompany Azure Vaughn abroad for her studies, truly investing time, money, and even himself. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Crystal Dawson spat, "Damn it, she could have chosen anywhere, but she picked this place. Did she hire someone to investigate you? Did she find out you’re in Xylos and came here specifically to bother you?"
I don’t know, but I feel it’s beyond what Azure is capable of.
Xylos isn’t big, but it’s not so small that anyone could easily find out where I am and stage an encounter.
If it was Henry who found out where I am, I might believe it, but he already divorced me, why bother to check on me?
While chatting, the three of us arrived at the restaurant.
Seeing Crystal about to burst with anger, I quickly comforted her, "Don’t get mad, let’s eat first."
Crystal Dawson verbally agreed, but barely touched her food, constantly checking her phone and furiously typing away.
After a while, she angrily informed me, "Turns out it was Henry who suggested Azure study here!"
"Huh?" I was enjoying my meal, but her words left me puzzled, "Why?"
"How would I know?" Crystal’s eyes blazed with fury, "Azure initially wanted to study in Country F, but under Henry’s influence, she came here. Is Henry deliberately trying to disgust you?"
Henry may be difficult and ill-tempered, but it’s unlikely he’d choose such a way to annoy me, especially given that Azure is dear to him.
However, I suddenly understood why Azure’s face changed when she heard I was working here, back at the supermarket.
She probably thought Henry had her study here because of me.
"Crystal, who did you ask?" Leah Lane asked curiously.
"...F-friends, you know I have many friends," Crystal Dawson stuttered.
She indeed has the most fair-weather friends among us, all buddies for eating, drinking, and having fun.
I passed her a piece of chicken, "Thanks to our informant, eat up."
Crystal picked up the chicken and ate it, but the next second she spat it out, gagging.
Leah and I exchanged glances, what’s going on, is it that bad?
"How come this restaurant’s food tastes so strange?" Crystal Dawson wiped her mouth with a napkin, looking like she couldn’t swallow.
"It’s pretty tasty, maybe you have a stomach issue?" I asked.
Crystal rubbed her stomach, "Maybe, since the New Year I’ve found nothing appetizing and even lost my taste for alcohol, just craving sour and sweet fruits."
Beside us, Leah’s eyes widened, "Holy crap, Crystal, could you be pregnant?!! It sounds just like my early pregnancy symptoms!"
My heart also skipped a beat, looking incredulously at Crystal, "Crystal, did your period come this month?"
Unlike my frail health, Crystal is naturally robust and even soaking in alcohol wouldn’t faze her; her periods are more punctual than her credit card bills.
Crystal slumped, her eyes guilty, "No way, I haven’t messed around, just drinking now and then..."
"Really?" I didn’t believe her.
"...Just one!" Crystal suddenly got bold, raising her voice, "If I’m really pregnant, it’s his, and if he doesn’t take responsibility, I’ll make sure he has no descendants!"
Leah and I were shocked, "Responsibility??"
Is she thinking of marrying the guy if she’s having a child?
Such a thought is not typical of Crystal’s style.
Before we could react, Crystal already started a video call, and it connected quickly. Upon seeing the man on the other end, I understood why Crystal knew so much about Henry and Azure’s situation lately.
Turns out Silas Lockwood, that "insider," was telling her everything...
"You little bastard, I might be pregnant, what are you going to do about it?" Crystal opened with a bombshell.
Silas was plunged into a deep silence.
I leaned in closer, seeing his puppy-like face with a mix of shock, confusion, helplessness, and a touch of stupor.
"Have you checked?" he meekly asked after a long pause.
"My period is more punctual than your clocks at home, and it’s been almost two months since the last one. I’ve been feeling nauseous and can’t eat—not pregnancy then, am I dying?" Crystal adopted a commanding tone, "You go tell your parents, if they dare hold my past against me, I’ll print your hotel check-in records and hand a copy to everyone in your family!"
Without waiting for the hapless Silas to respond, Crystal hung up the video call.
In that moment, I sensed her inner anxiety and fear.
Silas is a playboy and even younger by two or three years, what if he shirks responsibility?
Pregnancy is ultimately the woman’s burden, whether to continue or not, it’s the woman who gets hurt.
As carefree as Crystal is, even she would be scared in a situation like this.
"Don’t worry, we can go buy a pregnancy test or go to the hospital to check," I patted Crystal’s back.
"I’m not worried, if he bails, I’ll kill him!" Crystal replied stubbornly.
Leah, understanding her feelings well, quickly added, "Yeah, I’ll be your accomplice. Don’t worry, even if he’s dead, we’ll still be godmothers to your baby!"
Without saying a word, Silas was already declared dead in our conversation.
Having lost our appetites, I drove Crystal and Leah home, stopping mid-way to buy some pregnancy tests. Once home, I urged Crystal to try one out in the bathroom.
Three minutes later, she returned, showing us the test with two very prominent lines.
"Maybe try again in the morning, they say the first urine is the most accurate," Leah suggested, unsure if Crystal was happy or upset.
"Right, pregnancy tests aren’t 100% accurate," I added.
Crystal sighed, snapped a picture of the test with her phone, and sent it to Silas.
Most shockingly, she also group-messaged it to her parents and Stella Dawson and Dylan Dawson.
"Can’t hide something this big, worst case I’ll stay at your place for a few days till they’ve calmed down," Crystal seemed unfazed.
I stayed silent and started researching what pregnant women should eat and drink for fetal development.
The fact that it’s been two months without her period and only now realizing she’s pregnant, was a revelation shaking me to the core.
