After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 109: She’s a Haunting Ghost Who Never Leaves
"Hey, I’ve got a call. I’m going to take it. Let’s sneak some fun in tonight!" Crystal Dawson said hastily and hung up the video call.
What’s there for me to be happy about? Unless someone tells me that Henry Preston suddenly had a change of heart and cruelly abandoned Azure Vaughn, or that Ivan Underwood successfully stole Azure away, then maybe I’d actually laugh.
After aimlessly scrolling my phone for a bit, I was feeling drowsy, and the next second, the ringing of the phone almost gave me a heart attack.
The caller ID showing "Henry Preston" made my head ache.
"Hello." I answered the phone, my voice drowsy and weary.
"Why did you suddenly go abroad?" Henry Preston’s voice had a restrained anger. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
How had Crystal Dawson let it slip, and why did it reach Henry’s ears so fast?
I paused for a moment, "I wanted to go abroad, so I went. Is there a problem?"
"Shouldn’t you have at least informed me first? Don’t forget we haven’t divorced yet!" Henry was almost sneering with anger.
"It’s because you refuse to sign the divorce papers that I went abroad. Why are you still talking about this? Shouldn’t you be spending time with your Azure? Her hand was left disabled, you need to comfort her well." My tone carried a hint of sarcasm.
There was a long silence from Henry’s side, finally, his voice returned to calmness, "If it’s for the divorce, fine. You draft a new divorce agreement and send it back, I will sign and handle it."
I was a bit stunned, "Really?"
"Yes." Henry hung up the phone.
I was still a bit in disbelief, Henry had agreed once before to divorce me, but there had been no response for so long. Would he trick me again this time?
Well, there’s no harm in trying.
The next day at work, I printed out the templates of those divorce agreements I saved before, signed them all, and sent them back home as fast as possible.
After that, I was in a state of anxious waiting.
Henry didn’t contact me again, and I held back from asking if he’d received the papers.
I decided to leave with nothing, not taking a cent, just as long as I could regain my freedom.
About half a month later, I received a courier package from home, inside was simply a dark red divorce certificate, palm-sized, quietly placed in front of me.
I gently picked it up and flipped through it. The colored passport-sized photo on the document was probably taken during my internship after graduation. I had no idea where Henry found it, or how he managed the divorce procedures on his own.
Anyway, I got what I wanted, and that was enough.
I told Crystal Dawson and three others about this, as well as my parents.
But I didn’t want them to tell anyone else, just keeping it to ourselves was enough.
As for Henry’s side, if he wanted to make it public, he could, and if he wanted to be low-key like me, that was fine too.
But as low-key as he might be, he would surely tell Ivan Underwood and a few others, as well as his parents and Azure Vaughn.
That’s his business, and it no longer has anything to do with me.
"Zoe, to celebrate your newly regained freedom, Yara and I are planning to come over and give you a chance to treat us to a meal!" Crystal Dawson called me, sounding quite pleased.
"You guys are coming over??" I was extremely surprised.
"Yeah, we’re already at the airport. It’s just Tiana who’s too busy to make it, so it’s just Yara and me." Crystal said regrettably, then added, "Hurry up and book a nice restaurant for us!"
She hung up the phone after that.
I’d only been out for less than a month, and now Crystal and the others were coming to visit, which made me both surprised and delighted. I immediately booked a restaurant for dinner tonight.
Luckily, it was Saturday. I had been busy all morning at work, but I’d have the rest of the day and all of Sunday off to spend with Crystal and the others.
I drove to a bedding store to purchase a bed cover temporarily. The place I live in has two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom, but the guest room doesn’t have a bed made.
Crystal and Leah Lane shouldn’t have to sleep on the floor.
After buying the bedding set, I had the store wash and dry it. Then I went to the supermarket to buy some daily necessities and snacks.
This good mood was quickly shattered when I heard Azure Vaughn’s voice.
"Miss Hathaway." Azure was wearing a white sweater and black jeans, her hair was tied back, looking gentle. Joy Lane was with her, pushing a shopping cart that had some toothbrushes, toothpaste, facial cleansers, and most noticeably, several boxes of men’s underwear.
I pulled back my gaze, indifferently looking at Azure, "What a coincidence, why are you here?"
This isn’t City A; we’re abroad. The chances of running into each other shouldn’t be this high.
"I... came here to study abroad." Azure’s eyes were a bit complex, she asked, "Why are you here too?"
"Oh, I’m working here." I didn’t want to waste words with Azure, "I’ve finished shopping, I’m leaving now."
Ignoring Azure’s suddenly pale face, I pushed my cart to check out. I could guess that she came here with Henry’s help; otherwise, it would have been hard for Azure to apply successfully. The expenses of going abroad would be considerable, which her family couldn’t afford.
Did Henry come too? Were those boxes of men’s underwear for him?
In the checkout line, I mused about how they were finally living an ordinary couple’s loving life.
I suspect Azure might have told her parents that Henry and I were divorced, especially after she almost died in a car accident, leaving Walter Vaughn and Laura Lawson with no leverage.
After leaving the supermarket, I picked up the bedding from the store and went home to set up the guest room. Then I drove to the airport, timing it to meet Crystal and the others.
"Zoe!!!"
Crystal’s figure appeared, her loud voice a familiar and endearing clamor.
Black fur and blue skinny jeans, still as fiery and bold as ever.
Leah Lane carried a cream Birkin Cargo bag and dragged a matching HORIZON suitcase, happily waving at me from behind, "Little Zoe!"
"Yara, your life quality seems to have improved a lot since you ended things with Connor Hawthorne!" I teased Leah Lane.
"It’s my second spring. Isn’t your face glowing rosy too?" Leah Lane tossed her suitcase into the trunk, then sat on the passenger seat, while Crystal settled in the back.
Driving towards the restaurant we had booked, I laughed, "Your second spring, my foot! Didn’t you say no more dating or marriage ever again?"
Leah Lane giggled, "Yeah, I still think that way, but life is unpredictable, so I can’t be too sure."
Life truly is unpredictable. I went abroad and still ran into Azure. I came to work; she came to study.
Perhaps I am her destined person?
I told Crystal and Leah about the encounter at the supermarket. Crystal almost shot out of the seat, "What?! Damn, is she a ghost? Why does she never go away?"
