Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Ivan Underwood Doesn’t Like Azure Vaughn

"Using someone and then blacklisting them, isn’t that a bit too heartless?" Ivan Underwood said, though his tone was laced with laughter.

I couldn’t discern where he found me heartless.

"I feel guilty." I sighed, "At first, I did use him to find psychological balance, but over time, I found the guy to be quite decent. I didn’t want to harm him any further, so I blacklisted him, which shows I still have a conscience."

"Hmm, what a conscience you have." Ivan was amused by my words.

Then he asked, "So when he comes looking for me, what should I tell him?"

Joel Sutton actually went to Ivan Underwood’s hospital to inquire about me?

I never thought he’d be so invested.

The guilt in my heart doubled, and after some thought, I replied, "Just tell him that after I divorced Henry Preston, I went abroad for work and won’t be back for the next two years. If he needs any help with work in the future, he should reach out to you!"

Ivan was visibly stunned for a few seconds before he asked in return, "If he has work problems, why would he come to me? Is he in the medical field?"

"No, but you could help him tackle other work-related issues, right, Dr. Underwood? Physicians have compassionate hearts, after all. Be kind." My convoluted moral coercion left him in silence.

He must be pondering why a physician’s compassionate heart should relate to helping others find work.

I quickly added, "Don’t worry, just think of it as taking care of a younger brother for me. If you do help him, I’ll remember the favor."

No freebies here.

"How do you plan to repay?" Ivan finally spoke again.

"By helping you court Azure Vaughn?" On recalling today’s events, it felt inappropriate, "Better forget it, Dr. Underwood. Azure’s a total gold-digger, and marrying the wrong wife can ruin three generations. I suggest offering this deadly chance to Henry Preston."

Ivan’s clear laughter came through the phone, sounding extremely joyous.

I was silent, wondering if he was mocking me.

If being smitten by Azure Vaughn’s charms is Ivan’s destiny, I’ll never interfere again, suppress my altruistic impulses, and respect others’ fates.

"Zoe Hathaway, I’ve always been curious, who told you I liked Azure? And why do you keep firmly believing I’d fall for her in the future?" Ivan asked.

"Don’t you like her?" I had a faint suspicion about Ivan’s intentions in this life, but another voice insisted it was only a matter of time before he fell for Azure, just later than in the previous life.

Ivan replied, "I don’t like her."

I was taken aback, "But you told me before that you had someone you liked, but the status wasn’t suitable for you to pursue her, wasn’t that person Azure?"

Ivan’s voice turned serious, "Why does it have to be Azure? Couldn’t it be you?"

My mind exploded with a flash of white light, leaving me bewildered. What was Ivan speaking?

Could it be that the unsuitable status he mentioned was because I hadn’t divorced Henry Preston back then?

I suddenly remembered what Crystal Dawson once said, that she thought Ivan treated me differently. Although I was puzzled at the time, I believed everything would end up the same as in the last life, where Ivan would eventually love Azure.

Have I altered the emotional storyline after reincarnation?

A bunch of question marks fluttered in my mind like snow; I had no idea how to open my mouth again.

"Scared you?" Ivan laughed again, "I was just giving an example. There’s more than just one woman like Azure in this world. Why should I be fixated on her? For me, there are many women whose statuses aren’t suitable."

"Phew... You scared me." I finally calmed my racing heart.

But deep inside, I slightly doubted if Ivan feigned this explanation to comfort me upon noticing my awkwardness.

"I just hope you won’t tie me with Azure in the future. She’s her own person and I’m mine. I’m not interested in her." Ivan seemed to sigh lightly.

My godlike perspective must have caused him a lot of trouble. Still, I felt that this so-called omniscient view wasn’t absolute, as many details were slowly changing.

So I should respect Ivan’s current thoughts, and not use future occurrences to bind the current him.

"Okay, I’m sorry for misunderstanding you." I sincerely apologized.

"No problem, just take good care of yourself and watch your diet," Ivan advised.

After chatting for a bit, I hung up. Just then, my phone received a message from the hospital, a reminder for a prenatal checkup.

Counting the time, it has been almost a month since my last checkup. Time has passed swiftly without me realizing it.

The prenatal process here is slightly different from back home, which I occasionally notice through comparisons with Crystal Dawson.

Around two months, I had a blood test done for Down syndrome screening and already found out the sex of the baby inside me, it’s a little girl.

The next step is to go for a detailed ultrasound scan.

Having a girl is best; I dreaded having a brat like Henry Preston, I’d faint out of anger.

"Baby, strive to look a little like Mommy!" I caressed my abdomen. Since I was already quite thin, and not far along, my belly remained flat, and wearing clothes hid the pregnancy completely.

The doctor had also mentioned my frail physique, advising me to pay extra attention to nutrition intake; if the mother is too weak, the child may suffer from malnutrition too.

With this in mind, I quickly headed to the kitchen to prepare a simple yet nutritious dinner for myself.

Just as I finished dinner, Crystal Dawson called via video. She’s at the Lockwood Family’s house now, lying on the sofa like an Empress Dowager, with Silas Lockwood feeding her nuts from the side.

"Zoe, do you know that Henry Preston started a project in Xylos?" Crystal pushed Silas’s hand away to ask me.

"When did this happen?" I asked, puzzled. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"It must be around the time that gold-digger Azure went abroad. Now he’s managing the engineering in our area remotely. Damn, he’s really willing to do anything for that little vixen!" Crystal cursed while speaking.

These must be things Silas Lockwood told Crystal, right?

I laughed indifferently, "Doesn’t matter, we’re divorced anyway. Whatever he does is none of my business; I just met him today."

"What happened?" Crystal pried.

I still hadn’t told Crystal and the others about Winter Tate and Fern Tate, so after thinking it over, I said, "I’ll post it in our group chat for you all to see."

After hanging up the phone, I immediately crafted a lengthy message detailing the Tate sisters’ stories and shared it in our group chat.

As soon as I sent it, the group chat exploded, the four of us creating a whirlwind like in a chatroom of thousands.

Crystal Dawson sent a voice message, "This is so melodramatic! I never knew there was another Winter Tate, and Azure was just her substitute. Then what does that make Zoe? A punching bag for five years?"
