Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Bleeding

Tiana O’Connell and Leah Lane couldn’t hold it in any longer.

Tiana O’Connell: Zoe, you really did right by divorcing him. Henry Preston was way out of line. You didn’t even know about Winter Tate, you just agreed to marry him. How dare he take it out on you?

Leah Lane: Exactly, you shouldn’t be so selfish. You’re a victim too!

Crystal Dawson: And what about that Fern Tate? Is she out of her mind? Talking such bullshit, if I were there, I’d have pulled her hair out!

As I watched the messages popping up one after another, my heart felt heavy. Initially, Henry Preston never mentioned Winter Tate to me, he just asked me to reject his grandfather’s proposal.

Later, when Grandpa Preston’s condition worsened, and couldn’t be delayed any longer, plus I didn’t refuse, the marriage was eventually set.

If I had to say I was at fault, it would be for agreeing to marry him knowing full well Henry Preston didn’t like me.

The chat was lively that night, with Crystal and the others standing up for me, clamoring to confront Henry Preston, but I stopped them.

The more you entangle it, the messier it gets. It’s better not to confront it.

What concerns me most now is, how long does Henry plan to stay in Xylos?

I hope he finishes work and returns soon, otherwise it’ll be hard to hide my growing belly.

"Let’s meet after work to talk." The next day at work, I received a message from Fern Tate.

"I’m busy." I replied shortly and ignored her.

But unexpectedly, Fern blocked my car at the company entrance after work.

I had no choice but to stop and get out of the car.

"I don’t mean anything else by this, I just hope you won’t target Azure in the future. She’s a part-time host in the Marketing Department and you’re in the Development Department, you hardly cross paths, there’s no need to be at odds," Fern said righteously.

"What status are you using to stand up for her?" I asked casually.

"I consider her like a sister, that should be reason enough," Fern replied as I expected.

It amused me, "Just because she resembles your sister, you think Henry Preston loves your sister the most, and you’re okay with Azure being with Henry as a stand-in, right?"

Should I commend the Tate family’s sisterly bond, or is Azure just that charming?

Just as Fern was about to reply, Azure came out of the company. Her eyes were red, her small face as pale as a ghost, looking pitiful.

Seeing me, a flash of resentment crossed her eyes, then she appeared aggrieved, "Miss Hathaway, I resigned today, I won’t be here getting in your way anymore."

"Azure, why did you resign? No! This isn’t your fault!" Fern protested.

"Now everyone thinks I’m the third party, that I ruined Miss Hathaway’s marriage, how can I continue working here? Yardley, thank you for taking care of me these past days, I’ll treat you to dinner sometime," Azure wiped her eyes, forcing a bittersweet smile.

Fern looked at me, signaling me to speak.

I sneered, "Heh, you’re not afraid of being in my way, you just can’t handle the rumors, can you?"

"Miss Hathaway, I..." Azure’s eyes brimmed with tears.

"Enough with that, Azure. You know exactly what you’ve done. I don’t want to waste words on you. I wish you and Henry a long and everlasting union!" I was starving and just wanted to go home and eat.

As soon as I said that, I noticed Azure’s face change, staring behind me.

I turned around to see Henry standing behind me, looking grim. He must have heard my so-called blessing loud and clear.

"What did she do? Tell me." Henry looked at me calmly, but I knew he was angry.

Azure’s gaze grew anxious, fixed on me.

When I was kidnapped, she ignored my cries for help and tried to divert Henry and the others’ attention.

During my divorce with Henry, she encouraged me to find new happiness and finalize the divorce quickly behind his back.

She even had Joel Sutton visit me at the hospital, timing it so he and Henry would run into each other, using the perfume I gifted Laura to stake her claim in Henry’s car, sending me a repentant message and location, threatening self-harm...

A bunch of petty schemes, I’ve observed them all, and have them recorded on my phone.

When the time is right, I’ll fully expose them.

"Mr. Preston, Miss Hathaway, she misunderstood me. The last time she called me a third party, she didn’t mean it. It was me causing her trouble, so I resigned today," Azure hurriedly spoke, seeing I was silent.

Suddenly, Azure approached me in two steps, grabbed my hand, and slapped her face with it, "Miss Hathaway, I’m really despicable. Hit me! I deserve this!"

The gesture took me by surprise, and Fern quickly grabbed my hand, fearing I’d really hit Azure.

I instinctively tried to pull my hand back, but Azure ended up falling over herself, sprawling on the ground.

"Azure!" Henry stepped forward immediately to help Azure up.

Meanwhile, Fern lost her temper and gave me a shove, making me fall down hard, a sharp pain stabbing at my lower abdomen!

I immediately clutched my abdomen, my face turning pale.

"Miss Hathaway didn’t mean it. Don’t blame her. I just lost my balance..." Azure stood up with Henry’s help, pretending to defend me.

I felt a warm liquid flowing down below, and despite the discomfort, I said, "Henry, I think it’s my period. You know I’m generally weak, please take me to the hospital..." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"Ah!" At that moment, Azure also cried out in pain. She bent over and rolled up her pant leg, revealing a swelling on her ankle, probably sprained.

My heart sank; it was clear Azure didn’t want Henry to take me to the hospital.

Normally, I wouldn’t care, but now I’m pregnant. I almost blurted it out, making Henry choose!

But then I was scared. If even telling him about the pregnancy left him indifferent, how much more pathetic would that make me?

My child would be a laughingstock, pitiful without a father’s love.

I got up, the blood on my skirt making my heart clench, and I staggered towards the car, planning to drive myself to the hospital.

"Henry!" At that moment, I heard Azure urgently cry out.

Before I could turn around, I was lifted effortlessly off the ground.

"I’ll take you to the hospital." Henry held me in his arms, his clean, handsome jawline softly moving as he spoke, a sight to behold.

Azure’s voice no longer sounded from somewhere behind us; she probably couldn’t believe Henry chose to care for me first.

Once Henry placed me in the passenger seat, he silently buckled my seatbelt and drove towards the nearest hospital.

Outside the car window, Azure’s figure slowly receded into a tiny black dot.

"My blood’s going to stain your car." I said, feeling apologetic.

"Your health is more important than the car. Why can’t you take care of yourself at your age?" With a furrowed brow, Henry glanced at me as he spoke.

I had no strength to talk back, worrying only about the child’s condition.
