After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 96: He Admitted He Was Jealous
I snorted coldly, without answering.
Henry Preston walked around my apartment and then said, "You’ve got everything so set up here, you’re quite tough now."
After saying that, he took off his coat and threw it onto the chair, sitting opposite me.
I asked, "What do you want to talk about? Go ahead."
"What’s your take?" Henry Preston countered, "My family won’t agree to our divorce."
I certainly knew The Preston Family wouldn’t agree, but Henry’s attitude shouldn’t be like this; he’s such a headstrong person that he’d never listen if others didn’t agree, he’d just find a way to solve the problem.
The extreme things he did in the past life are etched in my memory.
Of course, I was quite extreme, Ivan Underwood was also quite extreme, all revolving around Azure Vaughn.
How come I feel he doesn’t seem to like Azure as much as in the past life?
Even Ivan is subtly giving me that feeling.
"Henry, aren’t you willing to fight against your family for Azure?" I looked into his eyes, "Do you intend for her to always be the other woman?"
"She isn’t the other woman." Henry frowned, clearly displeased with my wording.
"Then what is she?" I found it baffling, "Before we divorce, isn’t she an angel instead of the other woman?"
Henry’s face darkened further; he must have seen the news and online comments these days, most people have sound moral views, blaming Azure for intruding on someone else’s relationship, calling her shameless, and the like.
Actually, each woman involved in a scandal with Henry in the past has been blasted online, but those women were mostly celebrities who had higher immunity to gossip, hence they could handle it.
Azure is different; it’s her first time facing online abuse.
It’s no wonder she acted out impulsively; partly to prove something to my mother-in-law, partly because she truly couldn’t handle the cursing.
"Henry, I used to like your personality, thinking you were cool and decisive, never wavering; why, when it comes to this matter, are you hesitating? If you could be decisive, everything would be resolved."
"You are your parents’ only son. Even if they oppose you and Azure, as long as you persist, they’ll definitely give in. Don’t they want a grandchild so much? Make an effort; let Azure conceive a child—they would certainly accept her."
"As for my parents, I’ll persuade them. My dad, before retiring, would never block any project of yours due to personal matters. Rest assured."
I spoke sincerely, hoping for a graceful end to my ten years of affection. As long as Henry agrees with me now, even if we’ve withdrawn the lawsuit, we can have a peaceful divorce by agreement.
However, Henry’s gaze became increasingly ominous, seemingly brewing a storm. Before I could finish, he shouted, "Enough!"
The remainder of my words had to be swallowed back.
He asked me, "Are you sure you want a divorce? You said yourself you’ve loved me for ten years; can you truly let go?"
"Yes, I’m sure, I can." Without thinking, I nodded.
Such things shouldn’t be thought about carefully; the more I think, the more unwilling I am.
Henry suddenly stood up. Before I could react, his long legs strode over to me; then he pulled me up, and a fierce storm-like kiss descended, not gentle at all.
My originally calm heartbeat was disrupted; I tried pushing against Henry’s chest, the outcome predictable, like a worm shaking a tree.
How did the discussion of divorce turn into this? I was furious. When Henry’s tongue invaded, I resolutely bit down.
Sure enough, he released me, a hint of blood staining his lip.
"You’re biting me?" He raised his hand to wipe his lip corner, then slightly extended his tongue and touched it with his fingertip, which immediately turned redder.
The faint taste of blood lingered in my mouth, but I didn’t care; I just casually wiped it away and replied, "Who asked you to mess around?"
"Is it me messing around or you?" Henry was angry, "You were setting off fireworks with Ivan Underwood on the hospital rooftop, climbing Mount Valen with Joel Sutton, going to listen to open-air concerts with Dylan Dawson—isn’t that messing around?"
I was taken aback; how does he know everything? 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Henry’s tone was laden with undisguised jealousy, yet I remember him saying he didn’t like me; that I was just being delusional.
"Henry, are you jealous?" I asked again.
He shot me a glare, this time not denying, but instead, with a tone of defeat and self-mockery, said, "Yeah, I’m jealous; I actually got jealous because of you and other men? Do you find it funny?"
The shock within me at that moment reached its peak.
Ten years, for the first time, he was jealous of me.
"I originally wanted to make you remain single for life, to torment you properly, make you regret marrying me, but damn it, didn’t I actually like you a bit? Otherwise, I could just divorce happily and be with Azure." Henry said, as if resigned to ruin.
My eyes suddenly reddened, not because I was moved, wanting to repeat the past, but because my ten years finally got a response.
It was like a deep obsession being unlocked when I was about to let go.
After a moment of silence between us, I spoke up, "Henry, go back, I will seriously consider what I want; you also think about what you really want."
"Alright." He walked to where his coat was, grabbed it, looked back at me once, and left.
After he left, I cried hard, releasing all my emotions until my father called me, "Zoe, come home for lunch tomorrow noon, your uncle has returned."
I tried my best not to let my voice sound choked, "Okay."
My uncle has lived abroad for years, also running a company, but mainly focused on overseas markets, only returning once a year at the end of the year.
"Zoe seems prettier now, did she gain a bit of weight? She looks good with a little weight on." Uncle praised after seeing me.
"Uncle, you all are back!" Seeing my uncle and his family, I happily ran over to give them a hug.
Auntie smiled warmly and said, "You are indeed prettier, a big beauty!"
I thickened my skin, "About the same as always, I’ve always been beautiful."
"Yes, always a big beauty!" Auntie echoed.
"Oh, why didn’t Sherman come back this year?" I curiously asked.
Uncle replied, "He’s busy with the new branch company, it’s year-end busy, so he didn’t return."
My father interjected, "Isn’t little Xin interning at the company too? That kid seems to have just graduated from university; I think her abilities are no less than Sherman."
"Unlike my silly daughter, who only wants to play the cello and fall in love; now it’s all... alas."
My uncle also knew about Henry’s matter, he straightened his face to say, "Zoe, you really need to think about your future; your parents are getting older, and Henry’s heart isn’t with you, so you should learn to manage a company; The Hathaway Family’s company, absolutely cannot fall into Henry’s hands!"
My parents glanced at each other, didn’t speak, but I know they mean this too; Henry and Azure’s affair made them completely lose hope in Henry.
