After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World-Chapter 1762: The New Industrial and Agricultural Areas (Part 2)
Other than these, there were also some more essential processes like the Oil pressing facilities. These would be needed for cooking, lighting, soapmaking, and preservation.
Some sections could also have a dedicated use in war. Rather, this one was easy to convert to "war mode", and would churn out the oil needed for their wars at the clap of the hands.
There would also be a plastic factory.
However, rather than just the petrol from Dune Town (which was mostly used for bitumen roads and fuel oils for some machines being developed), they were also using corn starch, sugarcane, and plant oils for the biodegradable variety.
This was not to say they were completely doing away with petrol-based plastics just because they cared about sustainability. They were still using them, though in select applications, and definitely not as a consumable item.
The plastic products using petrol would be those with very sensitive applications and areas where they could not be melted. For example, the ones used in machinery components and medicinal tools, where higher durability and precision were required.
They didn’t want machines breaking, or even exploding, because of a random and avoidable leak, right?
They didn’t want medical tubing to burst when used near a fire user, either.
That said, Petrol-based plastics could actually be made biodegradable, as it had been done in Terran before. It was just that the process was a bit more cumbersome and resource-intensive, and therefore not practical for them to explore just yet. For now, the balance between the two kinds was what they’d pursue.
And then (although there were also others), there was the Paper mill and Print shop.
The Alterra bookstore was intensely popular, especially for the literati. The consolidation of the terran region alone meant a huge guaranteed market of literates, book readers, writers, and so on.
According to the recent news, there was a large buy-off of Otto fanfiction in a few allied territories.
It seemed like the people Otto rescued fantasized about him a lot.
Alterran Paper and Stationery was also gaining popularity outside of the region, too. According to Bart, the rims and rims of paper they bought would always be purchased by nobles within the first few minutes they would come out.
These factories were just the ones assigned to Amber’s team. Boss Briana was training another team lead, and he’d be handling another batch and another set of factories. It was all very exciting.
There was also a small railway system that would run in this area. Each lot in the industrial area was much larger than the ones inside, so traveling from a factory all the way to the end, where the depots would be, could get quite cumbersome.
Some items were also quite sensitive to transport. For example, they had used the broat carts for glass before, and they had a few wastages.
There would also be a windmill farm servicing this area, though the windmills were mostly wood and couldn’t be made too big. Although the electricity couldn’t be enough for most of the heavy work, it was available here, so the lights were uniform and wouldn’t go off, and some of the less-energy-requiring items, like electric fans and ventilation, could also be energized.
Eventually, when they improved Solar panels (which would be getting its own factory), then this could be adjusted.
At this time, Althea was roaming around the area, too. She was wearing a wide sunhat with a pretty ribbon tied on its head. After surveying the industrial area, she headed to the farms.
A massive area was also set aside for farms and other agricultural uses. The difference was that a large fraction was dedicated to greenhouses! This would ensure the growth of exotic and more sensitive plants, guaranteeing a large supply of them, at least within Alterra.
They were not only greenhouses, but also used vertical farming. The impressive productivity of each farm made the farmers from other territories gape in disbelief.
It was said that a single farm in Alterra could produce even more than 10 in other territories. And they also had the same level of farm! Moreover, the quality was also better! The plants were more delicious, healthier, and the seeds could give even more.
That kind of difference made people scratch their heads.
Fortunately, Alterra wasn’t too stingy. For a certain (huge) amount of contribution points, they could give the technology to others. This was provided that they were either allies or subsidiaries, of course.
That said, despite the abundance of land, Alterra still carefully chose which plants to push more than others.
The crops that would be given priority were determined by Gru’s agricultural department and underwent rigorous market studies, as well as the needs (current and future) of the territory itself.
They had all given honesty oaths, so Althea didn’t have to worry about anyone being bribed or lobbied to push for specific props.
After all, the abundance of certain crops meant cheaper production costs for the specific industries that used them! Alterra was growing big, and it wouldn’t be a surprise that under-the-table discussions would take hold, and in that case, they could only be thankful for the Oaths!
The underground farms were also not left behind. People liked their mushrooms, and there were already plenty of mushroom-derived products circulating in the market.
Not to mention, certain leafy greens also prefer underground planting, like lettuce, spinach, arugula, and so on. Of course, some root crops were as well, and there were also plenty of herbs that would take advantage of this. These were built under the system farms, so they also gained benefits from there. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
No matter the disaster, and even if the rest of the world went hungry, Alterra was definitely not going to suffer with them.
After these zones were done in approximately one month, the rest of the territory would be developed step by step, and some items were already assigned to another Phase, though that would be for much later.
Anyway, people were already excited about what the new territory would look like!
