Angel Monarch-Chapter 540: Sun Wukong
After achieving their goal of turning Bea into a Stellar, they had nothing left to do.
Odin continued diligently working on the Colosseum, carving Runes all over its surface. While he worked, Sera and her friends stayed under the Aegis System's protection.
Bea went to every city-state and upgraded the Trees of Light into Trees of Soul. They're the trees with the light blue flowers Yggdrasil created. This new tree's power remained a mystery to Bea, but she trained each day to gain a better understanding.
Sera spent most days either helping Bea train or meeting up with Professor Collins. The elderly Professor taught her everything about their enemies, the primordial gods.
She acquired all the available information, so her enemies couldn't surprise her during the tournament. Sometimes the others joined these sessions too, but most of them got bored quickly and stopped attending.
About two weeks passed like this. July turned into early August, while Autumn and the tournament crawled ever closer.
However, while Europe remained uneventful during this time, something unexpected happened in Asia.
Xinya walked along an empty corridor. She just finished another boring meeting with the 'Masters' who controlled each Asian city-state.
The light flickered above as she went towards her room.
A small smile appeared on her face as her steps became more excited. She'd scheduled a video chat with her son, Lin, a few hours from now. The dull meeting quickly left her thoughts as the joy of talking with Lin filled her body.
She stopped before her door and reached for the handle when a shiver ran down her spine.
The smile disappeared from her face as Xinya jumped back and drew her dark blue dao. The blade slashed through the empty air, and a few meters away, a fly got cut into thousands of tiny pieces.
Confusion appeared in her dark blue eyes. She felt a great sense of danger from that direction, but she only saw the lone, dead fly fall down in pieces.
"Wow, you really don't mess around. You killed that poor fly without even saying hello."
A male voice echoed from behind Xinya. It sounded humanlike, but had a strange accent, which made the voice seem less humane.
Xinya spun around and raised her sword, prepared to kill the voice's owner. Whoever he was though, Xinya couldn't see him. She heard only the creature's ridiculous laughter, echoing behind her.
She spun around once more, but again... there was nothing...
The laughter turned more foolish, and soon he spoke again, his voice echoing from all around Xinya.
"Okay, that's enough fooling around. Let's get this show rolling, shall we?"
Suddenly, Xinya heard something light land behind her. She spun around, raising her blade at her opponent. However, as soon as her eyes landed on him, she hesitated.
"Eh?" she asked in a mix of shock and confusion.
Before her stood a tall, humanoid Monkey. His body was covered in intricate golden armor, which somewhat matched his golden fur. A simple circlet adorned the Monkey's head as he used a small toothpick to clean his ear and nose.
He let Xinya glance over his body until her eyes eventually met his. The Monkey's expression seemed unnaturally fierce and a bit ugly, with fangs sticking out of his too-wide mouth.
A grin spread across the Monkey's face as he placed the small toothpick onto his golden fur-covered head. He then bowed clumsily while introducing himself.
"Nice to meet you, fair maiden. Sorry to cause you trouble, but I came here in great distress. I humbly request your assistance, young lady. You probably guessed my identity just from my appearance—..."
Before the Monkey could've continued his mocking speech, Xinya rolled her eyes and interrupted.
"I don't know who you're, but judging by your nonhuman nature, I assume you're one of the primordial gods. That makes you my enemy! I don't care about your actual name, since you won't live through this second!"
With that, Xinya's blade crushed the air, and the area where the Monkey stood exploded with slashes. However, Xinya's eyes widened as, instead of bloody Monkey bits and pieces, only flaps of paper fell to the ground.
Another giggle echoed from behind Xinya, which made her spin around once again. Her eyebrows shot up in pure bewilderment as she witnessed the same Monkey crouch atop a long staff, which looked awfully similar to his toothpick.
"Okay, you got me! I'm indeed a primordial god, or whatever." He said with an annoyed sigh.
After a momentary silence, his wide, creepy grin returned as he jumped off the staff and landed before Xinya's sword.
"I didn't come here to fight. You see, my name is Sun Wukong, a powerful Ethereal, who came to have an audience with the Last Angel! Could you fetch her for me?"
Wukong expected the woman to run away scared, but instead she glanced him over, then chuckled. The sound of her laughter seemed unnatural on her serious face, but it also strangely suited her.
"What's so funny?" asked Wukong, annoyed at the mockery in Xinya's chuckle.
"Its nothing! I just found your delusion hilarious... You might be an Ethereal, since you're quite overconfident and eccentric, like most of your Rank. However, I have neither the authority nor the intent to 'fetch' the Last Angel! I suggest traveling to Europe to meet her!"
Xinya acted quite well. She was already certain that this weird Monkey had endless power compared to her, so now she attempted to send him away from Asia.
She didn't know how he got across the Aegis System, but she also didn't care. He needed to leave, since an Ethereal could literally kill everyone in this city with a single thought!
Wukong glanced away with a thoughtful expression, considering Xinya's offer. After a few seconds though, he just smiled and shook his head.
"No, that's too far away. Just write to her or something. I'll wait until she arrives!"
That's exactly what Xinya didn't want to hear. However, she was out of options. With quick finger movements, she typed out a message to Sera, then walked inside her room and shut the door before Wukong could've entered.
"This is where you live? How curious!" said a familiar, annoying voice from behind Xinya.
She sighed with frustration, then turned around just as Wukong pulled out a drawer and began searching through Xinya's panties and socks.
"Do you have snacks?" he asked while creating a mess of Xinya's nicely folded clothes.
"No, I don't, and stop going through my stuff!"
Xinya marched over and pulled a dark blue lace panty out of the Monkey's hands. She quickly cleaned up the mess, only to hear something clatter to the wooden floor.
"Oops, this fell over by accident," said Wukong with a mischievous grin, while picking up the framed picture off of the floor. "Is this your son? Why're you making those strange faces?"
The picture he held depicted Xinya and Lin standing atop the Cathedral in New Constantinople. They both stared at Xinya's watch while sticking out their tongues and making 'V' shapes with their index and middle fingers.
Wukong tried imitating the picture as he stared at Xinya with obvious confusion...
"Ai on't unhersan," he said, his words slurred together.
Xinya facepalmed, then marched over again and snatched the picture out of the Monkey's hand. She then took a deep breath and said, "I also have no clue... My son told me it's an old tradition he read about in the archives. Now, could you please sit down and wait quietly?"
He seemed satisfied with the answer and actually listened to Xinya's request. The Monkey walked over to her bed and jumped onto its fluffy surface. Wukong lay there in silence for a few minutes until a portal opened inside Xinya's room.
Sera, Bea and Valerie walked through. They all looked tired and annoyed, since it was the middle of the night in Europe.
"What is it?" asked Sera while yawning and feigning ignorance. Unlike Xinya, she immediately recognized the tall Monkey, and suddenly even Valerie's protection felt lackluster.
As far as Ethereals went, Sun Wukong was considered one of the strongest. Barely any primordial god surpassed him in fighting power, and even then... killing him is considered impossible...
Sera, of course, didn't know the exact truth behind the myths and legends. It could've all been fake, but standing before the Monkey, she felt an immeasurable sense of danger oozing from his body.
Wukong jumped to his feet and smiled down at Sera. He then gave a curious glance to Bea and stared up at Valerie's giant form in excitement.
"An Angel, a World Tree and a partial Siren. What a weird bunch," he said with a light giggle. "Anyway, let's cut to the chase, Last Angel, since I grew bored with waiting. I heard you want to kill all the primordial gods who stand against you. Am I correct?"
The Angel shrugged and scratched her neck. The long, golden-petal dress swished gently with each small movement.
"Maybe... Why're you interested though?"
The Monkey took out his toothpick again and started cleaning his left ear while answering.
"Well, you see, Ms. Angel. While I've been stuck together with those weirdos for thousands of years, they've tried killing me many times! I'm not a violent individual, and I don't usually keep grudges, but I'm no saint either..."
Suddenly, Wukong tossed the toothpick into the air, which grew much larger, turning into a two-meter long wooden staff, with golden ornamentation at its top and bottom.
He caught the staff and slammed it onto the wooden floor. A golden glow appeared around the Monkey's body as the fierceness in his eyes reached terrifying levels.
"My proposal is simple, Ms. Angel. I'll help you destroy the Chinese Pantheon, and in return you'll remove the Mark of Judgement from my soul!"
