Chapter 163: Just Two Of Them

The Sages began to slowly move towards the area where the others had gone. Even though none of them understood what was happening, it was clear that someone had died. It must have been someone beloved. Since they knew they were in the Sun Palace, only three names came to mind as possible candidates. The fact that they were thinking this might be Atlas’s memories made everything even worse.

After all, none of them had such a memory.

"Eva," Cordelia said suddenly.

As the group quickly began to follow those around them, they arrived at an area. An area with thousands of chairs lined up, almost every chair occupied, with people from dozens of different races.

At the far end of the area, a coffin could be seen. In front of the coffin were three people. It was possible to tell who they were with just one glance.

In the middle of the trio stood a young man with jet-black hair tinged with purple, flanked on either side by two people with golden hair.

As the group began to advance and drew closer to the coffin, they were overwhelmed by the sounds of weeping rising from the crowd. Nevertheless, they reached the coffin shortly thereafter.

They saw Eva, who was lying in the coffin and already had pale skin, now with a face that had turned grey from death. They saw the devastation on Atlas’s face and noticed that Aelia and Aether were trying to calm him down.

"It’s all my fault," Atlas said suddenly in a low voice.

"No... You shouldn’t say that, Atlas. It’s not your fault," Aelia said, hugging Atlas tightly and beginning to cry.

"It’s all... my fault... I shouldn’t have said that. How could I have done that?" Atlas said again.

"Atlas..." Aether could say nothing else, clenching his teeth and struggling not to cry.

"I thought that maybe if we weren’t a family anymore, my sister wouldn’t have to be ashamed of me... I didn’t mean any harm, but I..." Atlas said suddenly.

At that moment, the Sages didn’t understand what was happening as the scene before their eyes began to change. A deafeningly loud sound began to fill the air. Dozens of explosion sounds. The "hissing" sounds caused by rain falling on fire, and many more reached the Sages’ ears.

"What’s happening?" Cain asked in a loud voice.

"The memory is changing; we’ll see another one!" Cassandra shouted.

Just as they were beginning to notice the change, they saw Atlas again.

Atlas was flying through the air with a huge staff in his hand. Behind him, dozens of wizards were following him, and the sounds of dozens of soldiers running on the ground with various weapons in their hands continued to rise from the earth.

Each Sage tried to fly at that moment, but they couldn’t. It was as if they were being prevented from using magic. As soon as they realised this, they started running.

After a short while, they saw Atlas standing in one area. frёewebηovel.cѳm

They managed to see the dead demon bodies lying around. They saw dozens of wizards and soldiers with tears in their eyes. Another person they saw was Atlas himself, wearing a pure white robe, with something resembling a headband on his head, and holding a large staff in his hand.

"Forgive me, captain," they heard a voice say suddenly.

After passing between the soldiers and wizards, they saw someone leaning against the ruins on the ground. A man with two cat ears on his head, slightly hairy, and of large build.

"A half-human?" Talon asked immediately.

"You didn’t do anything to make me angry, Leon. It is you who should forgive me. I apologise," Atlas said suddenly.

The half-human referred to as Leon smiled when he heard these words, and with that, each Sage was able to see exactly what was happening.

Leon pulled his hand from under his stomach. What he had been hiding was now exposed.

"I fought for you, captain. For exactly 11 years," Leon said suddenly. Immediately afterwards, as blood began to flow from his mouth, he uttered these words:

"I am dying now, but even if I had a life, I would still fight for you. At your command. To the depths of hell. Forgive me for leaving you and the others alone, but I am certain you will see the end of this. Take my revenge."

Leon’s abdomen was black and blue. This was not from being beaten or struck hard, but from being poisoned and cursed by a demon. In short, Leon was in the midst of a certain death.

No matter how many years had passed, Atlas had not been able to break the demons’ curse. There were only a handful of people left in the world who could use the sacred power, and he was not one of them. There was no one like that in his group either.

There was no way he could count how many people had died on the battlefield because of the curses.

Leon’s smile remained the same, even as he was dying, bright and radiant. Atlas could no longer endure it and, despite the risk of being affected by the curse, had knelt down beside Leon.

"We’ve been together for 11 years, brother. We’ve lost so much together and gained so much. I swear on my name, my existence, and everything I believe in that even if I die one day, even if my soul is destroyed, I will destroy every one of them. Close your eyes, and rest. I’m sure the gods you believe in will reserve one of the best seats for you in their realm. Farewell."

When Atlas spoke these words, Leon could no longer hold himself back. Even as the light in the dear man’s eyes began to fade, the smile on his face did not waver; he bid farewell to life with a bright light and endless hope.

At the same time, the atmosphere around them began to change. The Sages began to tremble. The harshness, seriousness, and gloom in Atlas’s gaze showed that he had kept everything to himself.

At that moment, each Sage understood why Azula and Orion, the entire Shorekeeper family, had looked at Atlas with those expressions. Each of them had understood the meaning of the words Azula and Orion had spoken in the memories Cassandra had shown them:

"You’ve only seen two main memories and a few small things."

Still, the same question continued to linger in each of their minds. After all they had seen, there was only one question on Cordelia’s, Cassandra’s, Talon’s, Constantine’s, Cain’s, Bellatrix’s, and Juliet’s minds:

[What was the dungeon trying to show them?]
