Chapter 167: Singular Moments (2)

Constantine, along with a few rune fragments, had captured the largest of the monsters locked away by Cassandra, and also the weakest, and without waiting even a second, he severed its head from its body with the runes.

The monster died there, and a completely different memory began to emerge:

"Trust me, I will recognise you. If you can live your life again in some way, if Chaos, the creator himself, decides that you are important and allows you to relive your past... Find me. FIND ME, PRECIOUS ATLAS. I promise I will recognise you... We will recognise you." Aveline said with a big smile and eyes filled with both joy and sorrow.

"I promise, my lady. Forgive me for using you and your kind. Even if none of you had died, I provoked you and used you. Forgive me for using your good intentions," Atlas replied.

"Ah, Atlas..." Aveline said, and Cosmo’s sorrowful eyes, standing right behind her, were visible to everyone.

"You can’t even imagine what it means for a mother to take revenge for her son... I lost a son, but I gained a new one... you. You have no idea how much you resemble Constantine," she added to her own words, carefully stroking Atlas’s cheek, then wings sprouted from her back, and she left the area.

Along with the Ancient Woman, each Ancient Dragon had left the area, leaving only Cosmo himself behind.

Cosmo looked carefully into Atlas’s eyes. To be frank, his gaze was quite gloomy, but even the most foolish person in the world could tell that this gloom was merely a role he was playing.

"Atlas," Cosmo said suddenly.

Atlas couldn’t utter a single word in response. He could see the fragments of sorrow in the depths of the Ancestral Dragon’s eyes.

"You helped me take revenge for my grandson. If I had known he was poisoned, if I had known how he died, and if I had been by his side before he died, I would have given my life, all my blood, and my very existence for Constantine. I was a bad grandfather, but I would do the same things over and over again... Still, I wanted to tell Constantine how much I loved him. And that being half-dragon is no problem at all. Unfortunately, I’m too late, but I had to tell you."

After saying these words, Cosmo paused for a few seconds, then took a deep breath and said:

"If Constantine is my first grandchild, then you are my second. Live, Atlas, never die. If you die, I will burn the whole world down."

With that, Atlas swallowed. It wasn’t because he was scared or anything like that. He had lost everything. Everything. He had lost the woman he loved, and every friend he loved. The betrayals he had suffered, the dozens of people of different races he had to abandon, and so much more had turned his heart into a black stone, but now...

What he felt now was a connection to someone. To someone... to a family.

When Cosmo saw tears in Atlas’s eyes, he smiled and said, "You’ve always been a child who kept his feelings to himself. Farewell, son." Then, like the girl Aveline, he flew away from there.

Atlas was left alone in the middle of the battlefield, surrounded by the flames of the Ancient Dragons. Alone.

When the moment in the vast land came to an end, each Sage noticed that the monsters in front of them paused with each blow they received and watched the memories just like them.

It was as if the Sages were seriously fighting against themselves. Just like demons and angels, the larger monsters were weaker, while the smaller, truly human-sized ones were very powerful.

This explains why even the smallest one could exert pressure on Cordelia.

In the end, Cordelia might be the only being powerful enough to exert pressure on herself. Of course, except for the gods and goddesses.

The Sages seemed to have realised this and came to their senses. They were just curious. How many more memories were there that they hadn’t seen yet? If they continued to attack the monsters, could more memories emerge?

Talon succumbed to his curiosity and attacked the monster. Despite being a wizard, he lunged at the monster, which was several metres taller than him, just like Cordelia, and threw a punch so powerful that it severed its head in one blow.

The monster’s head had exploded from the blow, rather than simply being severed. The monster had fallen to the ground and disappeared into dust like the other monster that had died, but another memory had emerged.

"So you’re saying that Master Talon created this area for you, and neither angels nor demons, no one, can enter here," Atlas asked the person next to him.

"Yes. It may not seem like it, but Master Talon’s magic continued even after he died. It’s as if Master Talon is helping us with his spirit. He was truly a wonderful person. He may be the only person we love after you, young man Atlas."

This person was none other than Ali, the current king of the Great Dwarf Kingdom of Nirdorth.

"He’s incredible. Look at these details. This must be the true meaning of perfection. It’s as if Master Constantine helped him. I never knew him, but according to what I’ve heard, he was the one who trained the other Sages in runes. That must be why Master Talon’s spell is filled with runes." Atlas replied.

"I agree. We don’t know why Master Talon helped us dwarves, nor do we know your reason, Atlas, but I want you to know that we dwarves owe you a great deal. If it weren’t for the two of you, the dwarf kingdom would have fallen long ago. Who would have thought that this country, which our ancestors defended for so long, would fall into such a terrible state?’ Ali said suddenly.

When Atlas heard these words, he gently touched Ali’s shoulder and said, "I will do my best to help you, Ali, always."
