Chapter 59: Chapter 59 Bankrupt

"Chris, you need to relocate to the base in about five hours from now, when the rain goes down, you can bring your family and people you trust," Laurel said without beating around the bush.

"Okay, I understand." Chris’s voice echoed from the other end of the phone.

"Have you converted all your money to gold bars?" Laurel asked, wrapping one hand across her chest.

"Yes," Chris said. "And I have more supplies that I want to bring with me." He added.

"Sure no problem," Laurel replied.

"I’ll see you see."

"Okay," Laurel replied, her fingers tightening a bit.

She ended the call and went back to her room.

Getting to her room, she paused, staring at the familiar place she once called home. She remembered she had cried dozens of times in this room in her past life.

She let out a sigh and began moving the things she couldn’t let go of inside her space, her hairbrush, the comfy bed, it was not like the bed at the base wasn’t comfy, it was just that she had gotten used to it, even though it was barely three months since she had lived in the Wayne mansion.

She moved her silk nightdress and her wardrobe into her space. She had gotten clothes for herself and enough to clothe a town, but she had already grown attached to the ones she had.

By the time she was done, she could hear the faint voices of the Wayne family downstairs, they were having an argument.

....

"What do you mean we are moving? This is our home, where could we go that is better than here?" Jade’s voice carried stubbornness and disbelief.

"I don’t have any time to waste on you Jade, anyone who doesn’t want to come along is welcome to stay. I’ll make sure I throw a befitting funeral for you when the time comes." Alexander said, his voice was cold and sharp as a blade.

He turned to the maid standing beside the door. "Get the kids rather, and inform Grandfather and Grandmother that they have to get ready too." He ordered curtly.

Vera, who was just waking up to the chaos downstairs, frowned as she climbed down the stairs.

"What is happening, brother?" Vera asked, a little grumpy. Her red hair, which always looked well-combed and maintained with not one strand straying away from the hairstyle now looked more like a red nest.

"Vera, can you believe Mr. Wayne wants us to relocate to God knows where? And not to talk about the fact that it is raining crazily outside, and the rain can burn too!" Jade was more than agitated. "And he had frozen all our bank cards, which means there is no money for us to do our daily routine. Vera, talk to him, where could be more secure than here?"

Vera yawned, half of what Jade said flew past her ears. "I don’t mind leaving as long as the place is exciting." She murmured, pouring herself a glass of water.

As if something had occurred in her mind, she turned to Jade. "Did you just say the card is frozen? Do you mean every card or just yours?"

"I mean everything CARD!" Jade emphasised it, she had thought Vera wasn’t going to take her side when she heard her earlier response.

But how could the vain Vera not lose her mind when money was involved?

Vera turned to Alexander, her brows knitting so tightly together. "You can’t just freeze our cards without letting us know why? I have a lot of things to pay for, my hair, my nails, I need to go to my spa, I need to change my wardrobe, and did I mention I NEED to get my luxurious makeup, I also need more money to get things done in set, you know how being an actress demands a lot." Vera gasped for air as she said everything without a pause.

Alexander shook his head, he wondered how someone like her could be his younger sister.

He turned to the maid who was walking past him. "Check if the children are ready."

The maid lowered her head and hurried upstairs.

"Brother, I’m talking to you." Vera’s gaze darkened, she didn’t like his nonchalant attitude towards her.

"Vera!" Alexander snapped at her.

Felicia, who had been watching tentatively by the side, stepped forward. "Alexander..."

"Mr. Wayne." Alexander corrected.

Felicia bit her tongue, her fist clenching by her side. "Mr. Wayne, you can’t just wake up and tell us to pack our things that we are suddenly moving. At least tell us the reason for this sudden decision, and also why our cards were frozen."

Alexander turned to her. "We are leaving because the city is no longer safe. And besides, haven’t you heard the warning of the Severance cult? That is no rumour, disaster is coming and the only way for us is to move to a safer place."

Jade rolled her eyes inwardly. "It’s nothing but a rumour, we can’t just give up everything because of some baseless speculations of the world ending."

Alexander shot her a glare, before he could open his lips to speak again, Ronan came downstairs.

Ronan had been residing in the Wayne mansion ever since his wife Anna, punched his face. He was so unfortunate that his wife caught him talking to Camile, and she also learned that he had been meeting with her and giving her money.

He had gone home only to receive a good amount of beating. And that was one reason he never loved her, he believed she was too aggressive for a woman, and wasn’t as docile as Camile.

"I have been wanting to bring this matter up ever since, how could you freeze our bank cards?" His voice rose in agitation. Because of him, Camile doesn’t want to speak with him anymore, she claimed he had mocked her situation by giving her a frozen card.

Alexander closed his eyes, trying to rein in his anger. "Because we are bankrupt! We have no more money! And the mansion is already sold!" He failed miserably in controlling his anger.

Now he could see the reason why Laurel didn’t want them in the inner base.
