Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 539: Chu Miao’s Dilemma
The nascent soul was happy of course, but remembering what happened the last time, it couldn’t help getting angry.
Chu Miao understood that her actions were akin to betrayal, but in her defense, she was just trying to protect her nascent soul.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t how partners worked.
Now, she had to earn the forgiveness of an entity literally squatting in her sea of consciousness.
"I am sorry about what happened last time. It wasn’t my intention to hurt your feelings, but I didn’t want both of us to perish together.
At least, if you survived, you could cultivate a new body and I would still be alive." Chu Miao tried to justify her actions, but the nascent soul was having none of it.
She could only give up for the time being and focus on preparing to go back.
Her brother had been in charge of the sect for a while and she didn’t know what kind of disaster they would find.
However, she assumed that leading a sect was similar to running a company, and since Chu Hao was so good at doing business, he must be able to run the sect smoothly too.
The nascent soul humphed and continued to cultivate quietly.
Chu Miao also went to look for Yu Wane’r. Since she had promised to teach her cultivation, she will definitely teach her before she leaves the base.
Yu Wane’r was helping her father with some administrative duties but she abandoned them immediately she saw her friend.
Chu Miao couldn’t take her into the Soul Ring, so she brought her back to their designated house.
Once a barrier was set, Chu Miao introduced cultivation to Yu Wane’r and explained everything that needed explaining.
She even guided her by demonstrating how to cultivate, which was somewhat similar to absorbing energy from crystal cores.
After what felt like forever, Yu Wane’r was finally able to see spiritual energy floating in the air, though she still couldn’t draw it into her body.
But following the technique Chu Miao taught her, she would be able to sooner or later.
Once that was out of the way, Chu Miao went to help her mother who was still treating the injured fighters.
Her mother had completely recovered her spiritual energy before the battle and went back to working like her life depended on it.
The hospital that was converted from a large tent was in chaos.
There were injured people everywhere. Some with severe injuries who needed He Yan’s help and some with moderate injuries who had regular doctors attending to them.
There were family members and friends who flocked the tent to check up on their loved ones just to make sure that they were still alive.
And others who wanted to confirm whether someone was dead or alive.
Chu Miao looked around the tent and walked over to her mother.
Without a word, she joined her and began treating those who didn’t have any chance of awakening a superpower.
Just like the day before, there were some injured fighters whose wounds from zombie scratches had been infected and triggered an awakening.
"Seeing the number of people awakening from zombie-inflicted injuries, I almost want to extract the virus and infect some more people." Chu Miao said under her breath thinking that no one would hear her.
But her mother, who had noticed her and was approaching still overhead her remark.
"Don’t even think about it. Do you know how many people got infected by the zombie virus, and what percentage actually awakened?
Less than 1%.
All the others weren’t as lucky. They mutated and their companions had to make the hardest decision of their lives.
To end them before they fully mutated.
That is heartbreaking." Mother Chu said, grief evident in her voice.
"I wasn’t being serious." Chu Miao defended herself.
"You cannot say it even as a joke." Mother Chu emphasized.
"Alright, I understand." Chu Miao didn’t want to argue with her mother, so she ended the topic by agreeing to her mother’s request.
After treating all the injured, the mother and daughter left that area and went back to the president’s residence where the RVs were parked.
"All we have to do now is wait for the report of those Liang Wei recruited before leaving." Chu Miao sighed as she dropped into a chair in the small living room inside the RVs.
"Do you know how many he recruited?" Mother Chu asked curiously.
"Not sure, but it should be a few thousands. Some might have died in the battle earlier prematurely but we will accept it." Chu Miao replied heavily.
"That’s all we can do." Mother Chu also agreed with this opinion.
The RV went quiet for a while after that.
Outside the compound, the base was still busy. Survivors and soldiers volunteering to clean up the battlefield, collecting crystal cores and piling up rubble.
Soldiers were patrolling the perimeter to make sure no more zombies were hiding near the base. Doctors were still moving from tent to tent to treat survivors.
Yet inside the RV, it was strangely quiet.
Chu Miao leaned back against the chair and closed her eyes briefly.
She felt exhausted. Not physically, but mentally. Her physical state was better than ever since she came to this world, but she had experienced so much recently that her mind was shutting down.
With the establishment of the sect, recruiting new members, the battle preparations, and now losing new members before they even register with the sect had taken a toll on her. Add the issue with the appearance of her former nascent soul, it was too much for her mental well-being.
Mother Chu observed her daughter for two minutes before sighing.
"You are blaming yourself again." She said softly.
"Am I that obvious?" Chu Miao asked with a chuckle.
"I am your mother. Of course you can’t hide some things from me. Even since you were a kid, you would blame yourself if one of the children you were playing with got hurt. Saying that you didn’t protect them."
