Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 63: Rules of the base.
Chapter 63: Rules of the base.
This was the second confrontation Sunshine was facing that day and it was not making her a very happy woman. Helena Drew had been named "Mouthquake" by a reporter that she called incompetent. The name had caught on because she had the tendency to detonate every time she opened her mouth.
It was understandable in her line of work, after all, she was a politician and for most of them, every sentence was like a performance, a debate, a rally cry, a plea for likes and popularity. But this was not the time or place for her loud opinions.
Corporal Isaac Drew moved towards his wife and tugged on her arm. "Helena." He hissed at her.
Helena shrugged his hand away. "We may be on their turf, but we still have rights. And frankly I was not on board with this whole moving here thing. I don’t believe in the apocalypse hoax."
Someone whispered in the crowd, "I knew Mouthquake would create trouble, she was not happy to be crammed into a truck like the rest of us."
Hades moved closer to Sunshine and intervened before she could smash someone to death with the hammer whose head she was touching.
"My wife loves our children, and she has always treated them fairly, not that it is any of your business. If you feel like your child is not safe here, then go and build your own base or move back to your home."
Rori Quinn picked up a megaphone and shouted into it. "Yes, if you don’t like it here just go back where you came from. This is not a prison, Mouthquake and my daughter-in-law has not handcuffed you." She looked around. "If anybody feels the same way, they can just mosey their way out of here."
A soft knowing look passed between two women; Sunshine’s silent thank you glowing brighter than words.
Hades added to that, "Those that choose to leave will go into our blacklist and they will never be allowed to step foot on this base ever again." He shared in a voice of steel and eyed the crowd before looking in the camera directly. "We did not take anyone’s money to build this base. We have not charged you rent for anything. The porridge and bread which was distributed when you arrived was free. The furniture in your houses is free.
Just because we can provide these things does not mean that we should. We are not fools and nobody is going to take advantage of us. If we say that you must work, you have to work. If anyone else says anything inappropriate about my wife, they will be kicked out immediately."
Helena Drew clenched her fists. Her husband dragged her to the back of the crowd. People shook their heads or sneered at them.
Hades’ words woke many of them up. They had contributed zero, what right did they have to start making demands and questioning the owners of the base?
"Women." Major Elio muttered.
Commander Grayson was next to him, and he frowned. "Not all women."
Sunshine cleared her throat and continued speaking. "Before we go any further, I would like to make it clear that I am the President of this base. Around here, my word is the law. If you do not follow the rules, you will be either punished or expelled from the base. Those who cannot accept this, pack up and move out today." Her authoritative voice resonated through the air.
One family broke away from the crowd and started walking in the direction of the housing section. People started to murmur, and others gasped. Was someone really going to leave?
Sunshine gestured for Hades to take over and share the rules and regulations of the base. Those that were leaving were of no concern to them.
"These are the same rules that were given to you on arrival along with the apocalypse survival manuals. If you have not read them, please pay attention and ask questions if anything confuses you.
"1. Curfew begins 6:00p.m and it is lifted at 8:00a.m. That is to say, no one should be roaming outside the third wall after sundown because the gates will not be opened for you unless there are special circumstances.
Beyond 10p.m, if you are not on security duty or working the night shift, you should be in your specified wall areas.
2. If your job is in a sector in another part of the wall or you are visiting a friend, you must sign in and go through security at every entry and exit point.
3. All weapons should be registered, and they should stay at the armory unless authorized. If two people have a disagreement they cannot settle, find the law enforcement sector and get help. We have officers and lawyers to help you out. Do not take the law into your own hands and kill someone.
4. All infected or suspected infected cases must be reported to the medic department. Delay costs lives, if you are experiencing any unusual symptoms go the med bay and seek help.
5. Every hand works. Farming, cooking, healing, teaching, dancing, fixing cars. Whatever it is, you will find a job here. Work will help you earn points and points help you purchase food and other supplies. In other words, you eat when you’ve earned.
You can also use money but soon, money will be low in supply and the prices of things will increase drastically. A bowl of porridge could cost up to five thousand dollars. Having points will save you when such a time comes.
6. Do not go beyond the first wall without permission, even if you choose to leave, you must inform the information center and also the security desk. We are not responsible for anyone that goes out voluntarily and dies.
7. You have freedom to practice your religions; we will not stop you.
Anybody that has a great idea to propose can visit any information center and put it in a suggestion box. We will review it and respond to you.
8. Anybody looking to start a business in the wall should get a license and approval.
9. No one walks alone or rests alone. It is best to have company just in case you are attacked. Remember to call or signal for help when in danger. There will be different signals to specify the kind of danger. Engrave these signals in your minds so that we don’t accidentally send a team of inexperienced doctors to fight a mutant monster from the mist.
10. Do not go into the mist without proper gear and if you go into the mist, when you return do not go home directly. You must spend two days in the detoxification wing.
11. Salt, sugar, gold, diamonds, silver, obsidian and food will soon be used as major currency. If you have these things we advise you not to waste them. freewebnøvel_com
12. The wall is not a toy; it is a weapon. Do not scribble your names on it, alive or dead.
13. Do not trust anything or anyone outside the wall. This should be imprinted in your heads, trust nothing and no one beyond the first wall except for your teammates. Do not bring outsiders into base after meeting them out there." He emphasized the last part.
Sunshine took over. "When these laws are broken, I say when because I am certain that some of you will break them. There will be consequences." She paused and let out a brief sigh. "Food and fresh water will be rationed. Times are going to get tougher and scarier, there will be losses, there will be hard calls, but if we follow the rules and stand as one, we will outlast this." She folded her lips. "Any questions?"
