Awakening: I Became a Legendary Spirit Summoner-Chapter 12 - : The Revive Challenge, Evil Spirits
Chapter 12: Chapter 12: The Revive Challenge, Evil Spirits
Karl stood in front of the three spirits he was supposed to defeat.
[Level 5 Wild Boar]
[Level 5 Demonized Fox]
[Level 5 Nature Bear]
He didn't have anything in his [Spirit Cemetery] since he had just linked a [Thorned Vibe Beast].
But regardless, he still had his [Alpha Dire Wolf].
The summon he had should definitely be stronger.
"Let's do this, wolf!" Karl said, his voice tinged with determination.
He wasn't equipped with any close-range weapons, but he still had his [Spirit Flames].
That should be enough to deal with this, right?
The reaper wasn't lying when it said this trial wasn't supposed to be too difficult.
Or so he thought.
Because as Karl took his first step forward, the three spirits began to shift.
"Huh?"
Their translucent, silver forms darkened, morphing into a deep crimson hue.
Their eyes ignited with a blood-red glow so intense that Karl froze in place.
[When your summons die in the real world, they transform into evil spirits in the World of Spirits.]
[Have fun.]
Karl swallowed hard.
Evil spirits weren't just stronger, they were fueled by pure animosity, attacking anything they saw with brutal force.
He could already feel the malice radiating from them.
If one of them was unleashed in the real world, most precisely in the [Novice Trial], it would cause a massacre.
"Wolf, use [Roar]!" Karl commanded, trying to shake off the creeping fear.
The [Alpha Dire Wolf] responded immediately, letting out a powerful, earth-shaking howl.
[Skill: Roar – Intimidate weaker foes.]
For a brief moment, Karl allowed himself to hope.
Then, the system delivered the blow.
Ding!
[Unfortunately, the spirits are not weaker than the Alpha Dire Wolf.]
"Oh."
The realization hit him like a punch to the gut.
His strongest summon couldn't even intimidate them.
The three spirits, now fully transformed into crimson monstrosities, began advancing, their glowing eyes locked onto him with murderous intent.
"Why are they like this?"
[I already explained why.]
"No, but, I mean, what is the exact reason they turned into these things, it can't be for nothing, right?"
[You're sharp.]
[Win, and I'll allow you one question about the World of Spirits.]
And so with that, the voice of the reaper disappeared, leaving him alone.
"Grrrr..."
The [Alpha Dire Wolf] revealed its teeth, seemingly eager to fight.
Karl clenched his fists.
He felt the weight of the reaper's words as the crimson spirits advanced, their glowing eyes locking onto him like predators to prey.
"Spirit Flames," he muttered, summoning a small, flickering white flame in his palm.
It hovered there, ethereal and faintly pulsing with power.
"Go!" he yelled, hurling the flame toward the [Demonized Fox].
But the spirit sidestepped with supernatural agility, its body twisting unnaturally as if mocking him.

The [Nature Bear] and [Wild Boar] followed suit, lunging forward in unison, forcing Karl to scramble back.
"Shit!" he cursed as claws and fangs came dangerously close.
He raised his arm instinctively to block, feeling sharp pain tear through his flesh as the bear's claw raked across him.
Blood splattered onto the ground, and he stumbled back, gritting his teeth to suppress a scream.
[Warning! Health is reaching critical levels.]
"Dammit, Wolf, do something!" Karl barked.
The [Alpha Dire Wolf], sensing the urgency, leaped at the [Wild Boar], sinking its teeth into its neck with ferocity.
The boar squealed and thrashed, trying to break free, but the wolf held firm, its powerful jaws refusing to let go.
Karl, meanwhile, found himself dancing on the edge of disaster.
The [Demonized Fox] darted around him with blinding speed, snapping its jaws at his legs.
The [Nature Bear] also towered over him, its massive claws slamming into the ground where he had been moments before.
Desperate, Karl swung wildly, aiming a punch at the fox, but it dodged effortlessly.
His knuckles met empty air, and he stumbled again.
The wolf finally overpowered the [Wild Boar], crushing its neck with a sickening crack.
The [Wild Boar] dissipated in a crimson mist as it was killed for the second time.
[Spirits/Souls that are killed in the World of Spirits are sent to the Underworld.]
[You do not wish to know what is there.]
"..."
Before the [Alpha Dire Wolf] could regroup, the bear swiped at it, sending the wolf skidding across the battlefield.
It rose to its feet, growling.
"Spirits don't bleed... do they?"
From the gash on its side, a strange cyan liquid seeped out, glowing faintly in the dim light.
Karl's breaths came in ragged gasps as he dodged again.
This wasn't working.
He couldn't just fight head-on, it was suicide.
He needed a plan.
"Spirit Flames," he whispered again, summoning the flame into his palm.
But this time, he didn't throw it.
Instead, he closed his fingers tightly around the flame, his hand trembling as he squeezed.
The heat seared his skin, but he didn't let go.
With a surge of determination, he crushed the flame, forcing it to break apart into dozens of tiny, glowing particles.
The two remaining spirits charged at him simultaneously, their murderous intent palpable.
"Take this!" Karl roared, swinging his arm in a wide arc.
The glowing particles burst forth like a fiery cloud, scattering in all directions.
The spirits couldn't evade them all.
The tiny embers clung to their spectral forms, igniting them with white-hot flames.
The [Demonized Fox] yelped as the flames seared its body, and the [Nature Bear] roared in fury, swiping at the fire as though trying to extinguish it.
"Now!" Karl shouted, seizing the opportunity.
The [Alpha Dire Wolf], still growling despite its injuries, lunged at the fox, its fangs finding purchase in the spirit's neck.
With a vicious shake, it tore through the spectral form, reducing it to glowing particles that scattered into the air.
Karl, meanwhile, focused on the bear.
He rushed forward, ignoring the pain in his bleeding arm, and struck with all his strength.
The bear, disoriented and weakened by the flames, staggered.
"Finish it!" Karl yelled.
The wolf pivoted, leaping toward the bear, while Karl darted to its side.
Together, they attacked in unison, teeth sinking into the bear's throat as Karl drove his flaming fist into its chest.
The spirit let out a final, earth-shaking roar before disintegrating into ash-like particles.
The battlefield was now eerily quiet.
Karl dropped to his knees, panting heavily, his bloodied arm hanging limply at his side.
The [Alpha Dire Wolf] limped to his side, growling softly as if to reassure him.
"We... we did it," Karl muttered, his vision blurring slightly from exhaustion.
[Damn. You actually did it.]
The reaper's voice returned, laced with amusement.
[Not bad. A little messy, but you survived.]
[It's time to go back, then.]
With a snap, three orbs appeared in the places where they had slain the spirits.
[These are "Spirit Souls".]
[You'll use them to revive.]
The orbs hovered for a few seconds before flying directly into Karl's body, seeping into it.
Ding!
[Now you can choose to get revived or stick around in the World of Spirits (not recommended)]
[What do you want to do?]
"I have two questions before that, can I ask them both?" Karl asked.
[No.]
"Damn," Karl mumbled, "Well, I'll ask my one question then."
He needed to select carefully what he wanted to know, as the reaper probably wouldn't give him anything else.
