Awakening: I Became a Legendary Spirit Summoner-Chapter 13 - : Back to the Real World, More Spirits
Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Back to the Real World, More Spirits
"I want to know every basic information about this place."
[...]
"Which means, how it works, why it's like that and what should I expect inside of it."
[Granted.]
'Nice!'
Karl expected his question to be dismissed since it was too general, but seems like the reaper didn't care at all.
[This is the World of Spirits, the place where every single spirit who dies goes to.]
[It is an entire new world if you want to call it that, where there are enemies roaming around.]
[But do note that there are some insanely powerful creatures in there, beyond this mist, that is why I stopped you from going there.]
[And now, the most important part of all.]
Karl's eyes opened up as much as they should, eager to hear what he wanted.
[Your physical body was killed, but you are still technically a "Living Soul".]
[And in the World of Spirits, a single rule was set in place: if you kill a Living Soul, you can be revived.]
"Holy shit," Karl took a few steps back, his eyes widening, "This is... what?"
[All the spirits know about this rule, but not a single Living Soul ever wanders to this place.]
[That is why the spirits transformed the moment they saw you.]
[That includes you, by the way.]
[The reason you're able to be revived is because you're absorbing the 'Dead Souls' of other spirits.]
[They merge with you, and once you've collected enough, you'll be restored.]
This was a lot of information, and though Karl wanted to ask more, he knew he wouldn't get any answers.
"Well... I guess I'll leave, then," he muttered reluctantly.
[Good.]
With a sharp snap of the reaper's fingers, the distorted world around Karl warped and faded, depositing him back in the [Spirit Cemetery].
[If you ever wish to return to the World of Spirits, just kill yourself again. Though I should warn you... you won't survive the next trial.]
The reaper's grin widened, its tone dripping with dark amusement.
[Until next time, dead man.]
Karl's mind became hazy, and he felt like his consciousness was slipping.
[Oh, and If you tell anybody about the World of Spirits, I'll appear and kill you myself.]
Then he collapsed.
...
In the real world, Karl's body, cleaved cleanly in half by Alexander's [Void Blade], suddenly began to tremble.
A brilliant silver aura enveloped him, radiating a blinding light.
Out of nowhere, three shimmering links materialized, followed by three glowing orbs that emerged from Karl's lifeless form.
The orbs spun rapidly, their speed increasing with every passing second as they drew closer together, pulling the links tighter.
The connection between Karl's upper and lower halves began to mend.
The orbs aligned themselves over the jagged wound, their light intensifying as they worked in unison.
Slowly but surely, the severed halves fused seamlessly, the cut scar vanishing as if it had never existed.
And then...
Karl's eyes snapped open.
[You have been revived.]
He was back.
The moment he woke up, his six spirits appeared beside him.
Karl looked at them all, sweating profusely
If these things died, and he was killed again, he would have to fight them again.
He couldn't afford to let a lot of them die, as otherwise it would mean fighting dozens of spirits by himself.
"Let's go," Karl mumbled.
He had been killed by an actual human, not a monster.
'People like these,' he gritted his teeth, 'Don't deserve to live either.'
If it wasn't him, then the person they would have killed would be dead for good.
[Level: 5 (19.00%)]
'I need to level up first, though, can't afford to die again.'
Keeping his spirits close to him, Karl dashed forward.
His encounter with the [Evil Spirits] had made him realize one thing.
Even though he was a summoner, he still needed to be able to fight.
[A summoner should always be stronger than his summons, right?]
That's what the reaper had told him.
He understood what it meant.
If he was a [Spirit Summoner], and the spirits in the World of Spirits were strong, then he would have to fight them alone.
'First, I need some sort of weapon or skill, the best way is to collect loot from a boss or complete the Novice Trial.'
While advancing with his spirits, Karl swept through the monsters in the forest.
Slash! Slash! Slash!
Every time he could, he summoned his [Spectral Blade] and fought.
Eventually, he leveled up to level 6, then 7.
It took him a few hours, but he did it.
And of course, while leveling up, he managed to fill his [Spirit Cemetery] ten times.
The first five were used on [Absorb] since he didn't feel like summoning more spirits.
But after the fifth one, he realized that being scared of the possible future wasn't good.
All he had to do was not die, right?
[Strength increased by 4.]
[Agility increased by 3.]
[Mana increased by 2.]
[Stamina increased by 5.]
And of course, he also managed to unlock five more summons.
[+Alpha Whip Wolf, +Alpha Dire Bear, +Small Whip Tree, +Nature Wolf, +Dire Fox]
A merge of all the monsters he could find in the forest.
Though now that he was level 7, most of the monsters didn't give him orbs since they were at lower levels than he was.
He still killed all of them, though, since he didn't plan to go inside the [Mountain of Death] while being under-levelled.
His [Spirit] and [Summon] cemeteries limit had also increased to 35.
In addition to that, both of his skills' had evolved!
[Your proficiency with "Spirit Flames" has reached 100%]
[It has now evolved to D-Rank.]
[Your proficiency with "Spectral Blade" has reached 100%]
[It has now evolved to D-Rank.]
With this, his skills could defeat level 7 monsters with ease.
He hadn't gained any new perks for them, but maybe it would happen soon.
After all, as he tested it before, even without a new perk there were always new ways to use a skill.
This was how he had managed to transform the [Spirit Flames] inside of the [World of Spirits] to defeat the evil spirits.
Ding!
[You have reached level 7.]
[You should be able to head to the next zone now.]
"Right."
He marched forward while his eleven spirits flanked him, making extra sure none of them died.

His stats were getting really decent for someone of his level.
"Alright."
After hours of weaving through the forest's twisting paths, the air grew colder, and the trees thinned, revealing a towering silhouette ahead.
The jagged peak of the [Mountain of Death] loomed ominously, its oppressive aura sending chills down Karl's spine.
"Here we go," he sighed.
Ding!
[You have entered the Mountain of Death.]
