Chapter 47: Meeting Day

The following day.

Abigail couldn’t recall what time she had slept last night. She only remembered that he had texted her around one in the morning to let her know he had arrived safely at his house.

And now, when she woke up, Abigail had a terrible headache, probably because of the lack of quality sleep.

After a few minutes of trying to leave her bed, she gives up and ends up sitting on the edge, pinching her temple to distract herself from the pain in her head.

"Heaven! Why does this pain feel like I just sobered up from last night’s party?"

Abigail’s hoarse voice echoed as she foolishly smiled, recalling what happened last night. It still felt surreal for her to have spent the entire night with Sawyer.

"Am I drunk just looking at his face!? Oh my God! I must be..." Abigail couldn’t help but smile widely, remembering how brave she had been. "Abby... oh, Abby, how could you do that? How dare you ask him to stay longer? What if your homeowner hears about it and bans him from entering this house!?"

Taking a deep breath, Abigail made a mental note to no longer allow Sawyer to stay late at her house, or she might get in trouble if Brody reported it to the homeowner.

After she felt her head no longer ache, Abigail tied her hair into a messy bun, walked to the window, and opened the curtains wide.

From there, she could see the other side of the house—the backyard garden. She was stunned by how stunning the scenery unfolded before her eyes.

This was the first time Abigail saw the scenery from four floors up. She watched as a gardener trimmed a vast lawn with his mower.

Then, her eyes fixed on the tall trees that lined the area, creating a natural fence around it.

As she opened the window slightly, she was surprised to hear birds chirping in the distance despite the faint sound of the lawn mower.

Abigail inhaled deeply a few times, filling her lungs with fresh air. She felt much better than before; her headache slowly faded away without a trace, leaving much of her delighted about this glorious morning.

"What a morning, in a beautiful place..." She muttered.

Abigail was genuinely amazed; she felt like she was in the middle of the woods, not in the city’s heart. She had never imagined there could be such a serene spot in this area.

As she was soaking in the fresh air and the stunning scenery outside, alarms suddenly echoed throughout the room.

She turned to see her cell phone on the nightstand. Her cheerful expression instantly faded, replaced by clear annoyance in her gaze. She remembered that today she had to fulfill her promise—to attend a meeting with Ryland and meet Mr. Andy Bennet, the million-dollar project’s owner.

Abigail couldn’t back down, even if she wanted to. This was the only way to make that man stop bothering her, and besides, she didn’t have the cash to repay him right now.

After turning off the alarm, Abigail headed straight to the bathroom to complete her morning routine.

Before long, she was dressed neatly in her usual office attire: a white silk shirt and ankle-length culottes. Today, she wore navy blue. She let her long-wavy hair hang down her back before rushing to the kitchen, searching for something simple to eat without too much trouble.

She found a frozen pizza. All she had to do was heat it for a few minutes before settling at the kitchen island to enjoy her luxurious breakfast: a slice of pizza and orange juice paired with a few slices of exotic fruit.

While eating her pizza, she checked her cell phone and was surprised when a new text message appeared.

"Good morning, Abby."

She didn’t know how to react to those three simple words from Sawyer. Should she reply in kind or just ignore it?

Puzzled, she ignored his message and returned to enjoying her breakfast.

Abigail still had twenty minutes before heading to the Century Hotel, the meeting location. She was grateful for her home’s location in the city’s heart; she could walk to any area in just a few minutes.

But today, she didn’t feel like walking and didn’t want to exhaust herself, so she took a taxi.

A few minutes later, she arrived at the Century Hotel lobby.

Her calmness faded, and her tension grew stronger as she walked inside.

Abigail felt tense, not because she was nervous about meeting Ryland, but because she was worried she might use violence in this public place if that jerk provoked her.

’Remember to always calm down, Abby. Always calm down. Don’t let him anger or gaslight you,’ Abigail repeated to herself as she entered the lobby, trying to ease the tension in her heart. ’This is a short meeting, Abby. Everything will be fine, and once it’s over, you’ll never have to deal with that man again!’

However, no matter how hard Abigail tried to calm her heart and mind, seeing Ryland Wood sitting alone on one of the sofas in the lobby triggered her anger.

Gritting her teeth silently, Abigail forced herself to walk toward the man she once loved.

"Good morning, Abigail," Ryland greeted her cheerfully as soon as he noticed her approach. "I’m so happy you came. When I arrived here earlier, I thought you might not show up."

His smile grew wider, revealing his neat teeth as he ran a hand through his hair and gestured for her to sit opposite him.

Abigail ignored his friendliness. Everything he did and said felt like torture to her. As she settled into the sofa across from him, she met his gentle gaze with her own sharp and cold stare.

"Where is the agreement?" Abigail asked bluntly.

"You look as pretty as always, Abigail," Ryland smiled at her, ignoring her question.

Abigail took a deep breath to suppress her anger. She had a strong urge to slap this shameless man, but she resisted.

Her hand clenched tightly as she said, "Cut the crap and don’t test my patience, Ryland Wood. If you don’t show me the agreement, I will leave this place immediately."
