Chapter 51: Does He Mean The Architect Is Abby?

Before Abigail excused herself to end the call, Andy Bennet spoke again.

"Ms. Snow, I’ll call you in a couple of days to discuss our next project." His voice suddenly sounded worried. "I hope you won’t ask me to forget that too."

"Of course, I won’t do that, sir. I will help you with the project. Besides, I also need that project. So, I can guarantee I won’t refuse," she answered sincerely.

Abigail would not turn away anyone who wanted her to design their house or building. She would gladly accept the work because she needed money to live and pay for her grandma’s nursing home.

However, if she had to apply for a job at another company, she wouldn’t do that anytime soon. She was willing to wait patiently for Ryland’s downfall before making a new plan for her future career.

"I’m glad to hear that, Ms. Snow," Andy Bennet said. "My team and I can’t wait to collaborate with you again."

"Me too, sir," Abigail responded politely before ending the call.

After speaking with Andy Bennet and hearing his promise to support her decision to cancel the project with Urbangrid Innovation, Abigail’s anger toward Ryland for lying to her began to fade.

She decided not to exhaust herself with anger toward Ryland. That despicable man does not deserve her anger. Instead, she would wait for good news about his downfall, knowing that Urbangrid Innovation would struggle to function without her as its leading architect.

Did she worry about the company’s employees? Yes, but they were capable individuals who could think for themselves and solve their problems.

What happened to Urbangrid Innovation was no longer her responsibility. And she promises that they will be the first names she would consider recruiting when she has her own company.

’Ryland Wood, you called me stupid? Foolish? You couldn’t be more wrong.’

A sinister smile spread across her lips as she hailed a taxi to return home. She still had plenty of time before her shift at Crimson Leaf Café.

Meanwhile,

In a car not far from the bus stop near the Century Hotel, Brody, who drove for Sawyer, was stunned when he saw a familiar face hailing a taxi.

"Sir, why does that woman look so familiar? Over there, at the bus stop," Brody said, breaking the silence and prompting Sawyer to look in the direction he was pointing.

"Abby?" Sawyer muttered, surprised to see her just before she got into the taxi.

"Yes, Miss Abigail," Brody said, glancing at the rearview mirror, confused. "I thought she was working at her café, but I guess I was wrong."

Sawyer didn’t respond. He stared as the taxi disappeared from view before pulling out his cell phone and finding Abigail’s name in his contact list. He was about to call her and ask, but after thinking for a while, he dismissed the idea.

"Sir, we have arrived..." Brody’s voice pulled Sawyer back from his thoughts.

The car came to a stop right at the main entrance of the Century Hotel.

Sawyer walked inside and made his way to the Japanese restaurant on the second floor, moving to a specific VIP room as if he already knew where he was going.

Moments later, a restaurant staff member approached him hurriedly. After greeting him politely, the staff member opened the VIP door for him.

Before Sawyer could enter the room, a friendly voice greeted him.

"Sawyer, you finally made it here," Andy Bennet expressed his happiness while standing to extend a warm handshake.

"I’m sorry I’m late; the traffic was a nightmare," Sawyer replied as he sat opposite Andy.

After accepting a warm towel from the waitress to clean his hands, he locked eyes with Andy. "Why do you want to meet? Did something bad happen?"

"What? No. Nothing bad happened. You don’t say you won’t meet me unless something bad happens, do you?" Andy chuckled. "Nothing bad or urgent happened, my friend. I just wanted to have brunch with you."

Sawyer chuckled and placed the towel on the table before the waitress came to collect it.

"Hey, I have pre-ordered your favorite. Would you like anything else?" Andy asked.

"No, thanks, man. I’m not really hungry right now," Sawyer replied.

"Alright..." Andy said, waving his hand for the staff to bring Sawyer a drink.

After sipping his cold Japanese sparkling water, Sawyer fixed his gaze on Andy before asking, "You mentioned on the phone that you had a meeting earlier. What was it about, if you don’t mind telling me?"

Andy couldn’t help but smile as he thought about Abigail’s phone call. He began to suspect something was going on between Abigail and Ryland. He needed to find out why the lovers seemed like enemies.

"Oh, that. That was not a business meeting, just my personal errand."

Sawyer frowned, staring at Andy Bennet with a questioning gaze as if asking him to explain more about his personal matter.

Andy Bennet chuckled before speaking, "Do you remember my plan to build a summer cabin by the lake?"

Sawyer didn’t respond immediately; he let the waitress serve his soba noodle soup. Once the waitress left, he nodded at Andy.

"Yes, I remember. You’re building near my land at Starfall Mountain, right?"

"Yeah, that project. Well, this morning, I met with the architect and the contractor. The architect is an excellent woman. Her designs are fabulous. And I hope I have secured her for my project." Andy explained, beginning to eat his soba noodle soup, too, following Sawyer’s lead.

"I see," Sawyer replied, but then Abigail’s face flashed in his mind. He had seen her at the bus stop earlier.

’Did he just say the architect was a woman? Could she be Abigail? Seriously? Does he mean the architect is Abby?’ Sawyer thought in shock. ’Impossible. Or is it? Andy seems pretty sure she will work for him. So she cannot be Abby, right? She says she’s stopped working as an architect for now...’

Sawyer convinced himself that the lady architect Andy met was not Abigail. He recalled Abigail mentioning that she was no longer working at Urbangrid Innovation and had no plans to return to the industry.

Placing his chopsticks on the table, Sawyer looked at Andy.

"Andy, does Silverstone have a company in the construction sector?"

Instead of answering Sawyer, Andy laughed at his best friend’s question.

"Man, how could you not know about it? We do have a construction company—the number one in the industry. Why are you suddenly interested?"

Sawyer didn’t respond immediately, as he deeply considered asking Andy to hire Abigail at Silverstone Group. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"You look a bit off, Sawyer Jones. Is something bothering you about the construction company?"

"No, not really. I’m just curious about why you choose to work with another company. Why not use Silverstone Group? You know the company can provide you with the architect and the contractor services in one contract, right?" Sawyer replied playfully, deciding not to press Andy for now. Maybe later, if Abigail is ready.

Andy Bennett was surprised to hear Sawyer’s question. He felt conflicted about whether he should be honest with his friend regarding his interest in the architect who designed his cabin.
