Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 185: Meeting with friends (1)
Chapter 185: Meeting with friends (1)
When their time in the market was over, Selene and Xavier rode around in the carriage a bit more wasting time until they were to head to Francesca’s home.
"Are you tired? Maybe we should have gone home to rest before arriving," Selene said, thinking she might have overdone how much she did today.
It had been a long day but Selene enjoyed every bit of it. It was her first time being out around the town with Xavier. With the growing gossip and attacks, Selene didn’t know when another day like this would come so she had to enjoy it now.
"I am not tired but we will need some blood when we get there," Xavier replied.
"I do," Selene agreed, touching her temple. "I’ve been feeling a little faint for some time now. With all the fun that we were having, I forgot we needed blood."
"You enjoyed yourself that much?" Xavier asked, wanting to hear more about what she enjoyed.
Selene nodded her head. "I did. I’ve never once disliked our time together. Being out around the town together made me feel like we were a real married couple. I know that we are but there is something different about having a day out together."
Selene enjoyed their time at the estate but there were days when there was nothing to do and Xavier would be away.
Xavier placed his hand over Selene’s. "If you miss me or want to see me more when we are at home, you only have to say it. The times that I do come to see you, you have always been so quick to get away."
"That is only when you say something that makes me have to leave your side. You know what you do," Selene said, avoiding his gaze.
"I do because your reaction is worth it. Another day when it is safe, we can do this again or perhaps visit another town. We can go to where it would be harder for anyone to recognise you so you will not be approached. If the attacks get out of hand, I plan to take you out of town," Xavier informed Selene.
"Isn’t your estate the safest place to be? No one has ever gotten in since I have been there and I never heard stories of anyone getting in," Selene said, curious as to where she would go.
"It is safe but I don’t want to take the chance of anyone knowing where you are. If war breaks out, as safe as the estate might be, I don’t want you to be there. I will take you and everyone elsewhere," Xavier replied.
"And your mother. I have not heard from her for some time now. Is her relationship with your father well?" Selene questioned, wondering if a divorce was in the future for his parents.
"My mother is busy with my father but once that is all over, she will come to you again and you will miss the times she was away. If she leaves him, I will find a place on the estate for her to use. Perhaps one of the smaller homes on my land-"
"You cannot do that!" Selene interjected, refusing to let Xavier do as he planned. "There are plenty of rooms on the estate that are not used. It is not like we have guests."
"Those rooms are already taken," Xavier said, looking away from Selene now that they were before Francesca’s home.
"What?" Selene replied, confused as to what he meant. "What do you mean? Will we be having guests?"
Did Xavier have family or friends who would be visiting or was he speaking of when they found her family?
"You will find out in the future but as for right now, your friend awaits you," said Xavier.
Like always, Xavier exited the carriage first and helped Selene down.
"You are right on time," Francesca said, walking down from the front door to greet the pair. "This is my husband Henry. Henry, this is Selene and you are well acquainted with her husband."
Francesca walked up to Selene to hug her. "You look like a doll today or is it that something happened in the carriage to make you glow?"
"If only," Francesca heard from Xavier.
Francesca laughed, taking hold of Selene’s hand to steal her away from Xavier. "It sounds like you two have not used my gifts yet. How unfortunate since I have more to give you. Do you mind if I steal your wife for a moment, Lord Blackthorn? The table is still being set so we have some time to speak in private."
"You may," Xavier answered. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"Wonderful! Henry, you should treat him to a drink or two. We just got our fresh blood delivered or if you want a human to drink it from then I can have it arranged for one to come. One who came willingly," Francesca clarified so they didn’t think she kidnapped humans.
Francesca took Selene inside, leaving the men to talk about whatever they liked. "So, have you truly not used anything I gave you? Not even the things to wear to bed?"
"It is good to see you too, Francesca," Selene finished their greeting. "And no. I was unlucky to have him stumble upon them. Not only my husband but the butler as well."
Francesca covered her mouth as she laughed. "That must have been embarrassing for you but it couldn’t be anything they have not seen before. You have a starving man, Selene. Feed him."
"Are your gifts like the others?" Selene asked, hoping that was not the case.
"They are. I thought by now you would have used all the others. I have used the best material which can easily rip so my customers must keep coming back-"
Selene covered Francesca’s mouth so Xavier wouldn’t hear what she spoke of. "Please don’t speak of this while he is near us. I don’t want to give him any ideas. I am grateful for all the gifts but I don’t need any more yet. It is me who needs to give you something so today I looked around at art. A piece should be delivered tomorrow."
"Thank you but I also enjoy giving and since you need it, I cannot stop. I wish to see you see a different tune once you have used them. Enough about that for now, you want to know about the ball. I promise you did not miss anything," Francesca said since the ball was boring.
Francesca continued to say, "It was hardly a celebration for the king’s army since he spent more time speaking about himself. There weren’t many from the army who attended. Just men who I know did not fight in the war. It was a ball for the king to speak about himself and for everyone else to show off how they look."
"Then I am quite happy I stayed at home," said Selene.
"That was a good choice. Your ex-husband was there and I saw them approach the king. He should be careful since it seemed like the king had some interest in his wife. It would be a test to see if it was worth it losing you for that woman. Between us, I don’t think it was worth it."
