Chapter 244: Remember what happened when you pushed my buttons before?
Andrew wasn’t afraid to admit that he took a bit longer than usual. Partially because he was busy sniffing Maxwell’s clothes like a degenerate, and the other reason being that he now had 5-6 more outfits that Thomas and Luis had bought for him. At this point, any of his remaining wardrobe was gone.
Some because he just simply couldn’t fit into it anymore, and the rest because Maxwell, and therefore, Thomas, hated it. He couldn’t say that for sure, but it felt like that was true.
He had a hard time deciding on an outfit, and ended up settling on a nice, burnt orange top with a pair of dark grey pants. He was just around people he would consider family, so he didn’t have to worry that they would judge him.
He washed his face, made sure he looked okay, and finally left the bedroom.
"You took such a long time I was thinking about sending a search party." Kim teased, and Andrew gave a weak smile before turning his gaze towards the kitchen. He didn’t need to be told that was where Maxwell was. He just knew.
Kim and Thomas watched him, their expressions dropping from the smiles to ones of intense observation.
"Andrew." Thomas started and he jerked, turning his body towards the couch.
"Yes?" He responded, trying to appear normal. He was normal. Thomas narrowed his gaze, but it was Kim who turned on the couch, gesturing with her hand for him to come over. Andrew did, slowly, and when he was up against the couch she continued to stare at him.
"You’re...going to go into rut soon, aren’t you?" She asked quietly, and Ford’s eyes widened while Thomas looked thoughtful still. Andrew swallowed.
Damn it. Everything was out in the open right now. He had a feeling that someone would notice, but he had hoped that it happened after everyone had been here for a while. Specifically, around him.
He’d barely walked in through the door and he was getting called out.
His palms started sweating, and he swallowed nervously.
"Well, uh, it’s not-" The sweet, intoxicating scent of Maxwell’s pheromones wrapped around him before he felt the soft hand against his back.
"Stop teasing him. It’s not confirmed, but you can tell he’s not himself." Maxwell’s voice was soft, but firm, and Kim’s face broke into a smile. Even Thomas looked more relaxed while Ford still seemed concerned.
"Oh Andy. So soon? Are you sure you’re okay?" Ford asked and Andrew swallowed.
"It’s...Michael’s looking into it. He’s in the loop. I just checked in with him, and I’m supposed to keep checking in with him throughout the weekend." Andrew admitted and Ford placed a hand on his chest, sighing in relief.
"Oh good. I know how bad ruts can get. I am glad that you have someone in your corner. Maxy? Are you holding up okay? I know that alphas before their rut can come across a little brutish and rough around the edges." Ford’s words were filled with sympathy, and Andrew came to the shocking realisation that Ford had been dealing with May for decades.
Maxwell’s hand on Andrew’s back pressed in a little tighter.
"It’s been...interesting actually, to see Andy so...different." Maxwell muttered. "He’s not as performative. He just doesn’t have the energy for it. I like it." Andrew turned his gaze towards his boyfriend, shocked.
"Performative?" Andrew repeated and Maxwell turned his gaze towards him, his blue eyes warm.
"Are you about to lie to me and tell me that you don’t smile all the time to keep other people relaxed? Because I know that’s a lie if you try to say it with your mouth. I don’t mind that you don’t smile all the time, but I am also not going to force you to change who you are if that is something you want to do. I’m just saying, I appreciate the change. This Andrew, who you are before your rut, doesn’t play games. You don’t have the patience for it. Richard told me about your mood swing this afternoon though, so I am looking forward to witnessing one myself." Maxwell teased, and Andrew swallowed thickly.
"You wouldn’t be getting a normal mood swing. You know that, right?" Andrew told him, a hint of desperation in his tone. He wouldn’t get mad or frustrated in the same way as he was with the others. He knew that everything related to Maxwell was going to be inherently sexual to him right now, and from the glimmer in Maxwell’s eyes, he knew that too.
"Baby, there is no part of you I can’t take." Maxwell promised. Andrew was uncomfortably hard.
He covered his mouth, turning his body away as he tried to regulate his breathing and pheromones. He knew that they came out like a damn flower, wrapping around Maxwell. Enough that the other man was laughing, and Kim and Thomas weren’t able to control their expressions.
"That’s not fair." Andrew protested and Maxwell chuckled. He grabbed Andrew’s free hand and pressed his lips against his palm.
"I don’t fight fair, but you already knew that. You should go see May and I’ll stay in the living room, alright? Take your time." He winked and Andrew flushed.
"Damn it Maxwell." Andrew protested, not wanting to tug his hand free from the other man’s hold. Maxwell’s grin was dangerous and Andrew knew that they were going to be in trouble. Maxwell was going to egg him on when he was in his rut, and Andrew could feel how dizzy he was already. It was going to be very dangerous for him. Andrew could already feel the desire to put a baby in him welling up from the depths of his soul. Swallowing up his sense of reason.
This was a dangerous game Maxwell was playing, and Andrew wasn’t sure if he fully knew the consequences. Andrew couldn’t remember a lot of his day long rut, but this?
He had a feeling he was going to push, press and twist Maxwell around into whatever he wanted. He wanted to do wicked, wicked things to him that he felt Maxwell wasn’t going to recover from.
Andrew let out a shaky breath, pulling his hand away from Maxwell’s with trembling fingers. He needed to get a hold of himself. He knew he was working himself up more. He needed to not do that. He needed to calm down. It was still fucking Friday. They had two more days of this.
Turning without a word to anyone else, Andrew wandered towards the kitchen.
"Is he okay?" Thomas asked from behind him, and Andrew didn’t answer. Maxwell’s voice held a hint of laughter as he spoke for the both of him. freёnovelkiss.com
"I might have pushed a little too hard. He’s already warned me, but I just wanted to tease him. I might have to stop doing that, or I might find myself in trouble." Andrew was glad to hear that Maxwell understood what kind of dangerous situation he was in. The man was bold again. Andrew was glad for it, happy that he was coming back to the confident, proud Maxwell that he knew.
The timing was just shit.
Wait. Would he want to clingy, needy Maxwell right now? Oh god, that sounded like a disaster. Maybe it was better if this version of Maxwell was back. The other one sounded...
It sounded like they would probably be parents. Before either of them were ready.
Shuddering, Andrew stepped into the kitchen and found that May, and Jenny were working away in the kitchen while Luis sat at the island. All three had a glass of wine they were working on, and an apron and an empty glass sat waiting on the closest corner of the island to the living room.
Andrew stared at it, and May started laughing.
"You look like you came from hell and back. What did that boy do to you?" She joked, coming around from the other side of the island to tug him into the kitchen proper, reaching up to cup his face, tilting his head from side to side.
"His eyes haven’t stopped being amber since this morning." Luis commented, and Jenny sighed.
"Oh Andy. That might be why the condoms broke." May’s expression was still light, the laughter still in her gaze.
"Well well well. You better not get him pregnant on your first rut. We’ll never let you live it down." May said and Andrew groaned, closing his eyes.
"This is not what I-"
"Whether this is what you wanted or not, it’s happening, and you need to come to terms with it. The more you fight it, the more it’s going to swallow you whole. Do you want to hurt Maxy?" May asked and Andrew shook his head. "Then you’ll stop this ’I didn’t want this’ and ’why me’ behaviour. The more you push it away and don’t face it, the higher chance you have of hurting your partner when in your rut. First or otherwise." May’s words sounded like she wasn’t just talking out of her ass.
Andrew opened his gaze to meet her serious one. Her lips were still turned up, her expression the same, but her words and eyes held a truth that Andrew wasn’t sure he wanted to come face to face with.
"I-I..." Andrew exhaled slowly, taking a few deep breaths, trying to calm himself. "This just feels like a lot. I’m overwhelmed. How do people live with this? I feel like a teenager all over again." Andrew complained and May grinned, giving his face a light tap with her hand as she pulled away, turning towards the apron on the counter.
"It’s hard when you’re in your teens, and hard when you’re in your 40’s too. I look forward to when, as a female alpha, I get to escape this rut in my 50’s. Sucks for you, Andy, you might never escape it." May teased, picking up the apron and tossing it to him. "Now put that on. We’re making handmade pasta and need your muscles to roll and cut. We also need your muscles to pound out the chicken breasts." May ordered as Andrew caught the apron.
"What if I shatter the countertop?" Andrew asked, serious, and Luis laughed.
"We replace it, Andy. That’s what we do." She told him, taking a sip from her glass. "I got something non alcoholic for you to enjoy. A sparkling wine without anything in it. I’ll get it for you." Andrew felt his heart race, but for different reasons and he felt like he was getting a part of him back.
They were being so kind, and considerate. Even when he felt like a hormonal teenager about to bust in his pants at the drop of his hat.
Luis approached with the non alcoholic wine and Andrew’s heart warmed again. He was pretty sure he could have a drink without going off the deep end, but he was appreciative that they were being so considerate. He wasn’t going to turn it down, especially when Luis had seemed so excited to get it for him herself.
Andrew pulled on his apron as she got his glass ready, and once he was tied up and the glass was poured, the three other women came forward and raised their glasses together.
"To keeping Andrew sane for a few more days." Jenny said cheerfully, and Andrew felt his face warm, but clinked his glass. Two days felt like a lifetime away.
