Chapter 253: If we don’t make plans, we have not ground rules

"Are you going to be okay getting that koala home?" May joked, everyone gathered around the entrance of the restaurant that they had just exited. Andrew was still clinging to Maxwell, had been after they had finished dinner and everyone had remained at the restaurant to chat.

Andrew felt like he was in control, but he knew he was slipping. Everything kind of came to a head when Andrew growled when Maxwell pulled away to go to the bathroom, and Kim and May had laughed and declared it was time to send the ’beastie boy’ back to his home.

There were two reasons that didn’t set off Andrew. One, it was May saying it. He knew it was from a place of warmth inherently. May wasn’t saying it to hurt him, but maybe to get a rise out of him. Two, it was true. He felt like a beast around Maxwell.

He wanted to do something similar as to what they had done in the morning at night, but he also knew better. He wasn’t going to handle it well, and without the threat of others going to arrive at any moment, he might not be able to stop himself.

He also knew he couldn’t really rely on Maxwell to put his foot down.

Andrew hated to admit it, but he was kind of testing him. Not maliciously. Never maliciously. And Maxwell had failed spectacularly.

Maxwell had no resistance to Andrew. Not a single bit. It squeezed at Andrew’s heartstrings that the man trusted him so much, but at the same time, he really wanted the other man to have his guard up. Andrew was a danger to him. He knew he was a danger to him.

Maxwell knew that if Andrew went off the deep end, not only would Maxwell end up probably bedridden for days, and Andrew would feel terribly guilty, but that he could end up pregnant, and worse, marked.

Andrew hadn’t gone through a full rut yet. He had no idea what kind of person he was going to be in it. Maxwell had tried to comfort him and told him that he had a rough idea of what Andrew might be like, but that wasn’t a true comfort to Andrew. Just because Maxwell had dealt with him for a day didn’t mean that they knew what was going on.

During dinner, Kim had sent Andrew a few articles about the length of true alpha ruts, along with preparations an omega could take to protect themselves. It was an article written from the omega perspective, but Andrew had appreciated it. He wondered how Kim knew that Andrew was so worried about it, but then again, she was also a true alpha, and Andrew wasn’t exactly the best at hiding his emotions right now.

"Well, same time as tomorrow?" Luis asked warmly, smiling at Andrew and Maxwell who remained tucked against each other. Andrew had to fight against the scarf, hat and gloves that Maxwell was wearing, but he was doing a good job. He was wrapped around Maxwell from behind as everyone spoke. Rose and Jordan were a shadow of them, just on a slightly smaller scale. Jordan was also bundled up, and when Andrew perked up, he realised that Jenny and Luis were also well dressed. Huh.

Was it...an omega thing? Because Kim, May and Rose were also dressed for the weather, but not to the same lengths. Ford also wasn’t overdressed, nor was Thomas.

It was a nice distraction from the worries eating him alive.

"Uh, well," Andrew started, and Maxwell patted his hands.

"Yes. Otherwise, Andrew might not be able to control himself, and I would rather him not feel guilty." Maxwell said, and Andrew felt his face warm. Damn it. The other man knew him too well. Rose laughed.

"That sounds about right. Do you two want company?" She asked, and Maxwell turned, looking up at him. Andrew was unsure. They had kicked out everyone else yesterday, so it didn’t really seem fair that they accept them, while leaving everyone else out of it.

"Don’t consider us, Andy. Just consider if you want her there or not." Kim encouraged, and Andrew swallowed, glancing at them. He was grateful that they were being so understanding of his situation. Andrew ended up fighting with himself for a full minute before he came to a conclusion.

"I...don’t think I want you there in case I have to fight a realtor." Andrew told her. "I know you would step in, and I wouldn’t want Jordan to worry." Rose’s eyes widened, surprised that that was the conclusion he came to. So was pretty much everyone else, and Maxwell turned, giving him a hug.

"Oh Baby. Are you that concerned that you’ll have to fight tomorrow?" Maxwell asked and Andrew couldn’t lie to him and say that wasn’t the case.

"Everyone who doesn’t know who you are thinks you’re adorable. People who do know who you are still thinks you’re adorable. I know who others treat you, Max. I don’t think I can handle even a second of that. I’m afraid. I have this...anger inside of me. I don’t want others to witness that." Andrew told him and Maxwell chuckled.

"But it’s okay if I do?" Maxwell asked and Andrew flushed. He couldn’t look down at the other man.

"Well, I don’t think you’ll get mad at me since I protected you like that in the past." Andrew mumbled and jumped when a hand slammed down on his shoulder. It was Rose. She was smiling from ear to ear.

"Ah. Understood. I’ll get Richard out of his house tomorrow and bum it around town like on a family outing with Mom and Dad. That way, when you’re all done, you can just text one of us and we’ll come meet up with everyone. Should we make it a bigger dinner this time? Is there anywhere you want to go, Andy?" Rose asked and Andrew flushed.

"Uh, well, maybe the restaurant from before?" Andrew suggested and Maxwell seemed surprised.

"You really like that place, don’t you?" He suggested and Andrew nodded, a little embarrassed.

"Well, the food was good, the service was good, and they were nice to me after a slight misunderstanding." Andrew said and Maxwell’s expression softened.

"Alright. Then let’s see if we can get a reservation for there tomorrow, regardless of whether we get into a fight with a realtor, hmm?" Maxwell’s tone was soft, and warm, and Andrew even ignored the dig in his words just to soak it in.

"Alright." Andrew said, his gaze going a little unfocused and Maxwell, bless his soul, stepped back. Andrew pouted, upset, but Maxwell shook his head.

"Oh no you don’t. Your scent is getting stronger. You can handle a few minutes away from me to clear your head. I’ll go make that phone call now. How many should I make it for?" Maxwell asked, turning to everyone else. Everyone shared a look before Luis lifted up her fingers and did a brief count. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"Hmm. I’ll extend an invitation to the kids, but I doubt William will show up. Will you bring your two children this time, Jenny?" Luis asked and Jenny shared a look with Kim before Kim glanced at Andrew thoughtfully.

"They would probably want to see Andy and Max. They like them quite a bit. Sure! I’ll see if they want to come, but they might have made plans with their friends." Kim said, and Jenny nodded.

"Lately our oldest has been going out quite a bit. We believe they’ve entered their partying stage." Jenny seemed pleased with that, and Luis and May chuckled.

"Oh how cute. Are they trying to keep it from you?" Jenny nodded.

"We believe we’ve caught them hungover at least once so far. Haven’t needed to have a conversation about it yet. I did play music the next morning a little louder than normal though." The women laughed, while Luis turned to Maxwell.

"I would put down probably 15, but could be as low as 13, or as high as 17. We can call them back tomorrow to let them know for sure." Luis told Maxwell, who nodded.

"Great. I’ll give them my name, so you can just call in once you get confirmation from Ben and Will." Maxwell told her, before he pulled his phone out of his pocket and took a few steps away from some quiet. Andrew was still pouting, but instead of getting upset, he did what he was told.

He took several deep breaths of the cold air, cleansing his nose, lungs and everything else. Rose grinned, shuffling Jordan over so that he was still in her arms, but also so that she could chat with him.

"It’s really taking the wind out of you, isn’t it?" She teased and Andrew slid a not so kind gaze her way.

"Rose, I don’t remember teasing you like this when you had your ruts." Andrew said, and Rose grinned.

"Hmm, arguable. You once told me to smarten up. I don’t know if you were in a mood from something else, but Mom had to hold me back from beating you up. You were only a baby at the time." Rose told him, and Andrew genuinely couldn’t recall that moment.

"Did I really?" He asked and Rose nodded.

"Yeah you did." Andrew still couldn’t recall it. While they waited for Maxwell to come back, Rose continued to blow Andrew’s mind with things he couldn’t remember from his childhood, which May also confirmed for him once she realised what was going on. It was like a whole new past was revealed to him.

"Alright. We are confirmed for our reservation. I told them that my Mother would call back and give my name tomorrow to confirm numbers." Maxwell said, sliding his phone back into his pocket as he came over and stood next to Andrew instead of against Andrew’s chest like Andrew wanted.

Luis glanced at Andrew’s downcast expression, and Maxwell’s bright eyes, and smiled.

"Well, if all is confirmed, let’s go home for the night. We’ll see you in the morning, Andy, Max. Get a good night’s rest you two." Luis’ eyes glinted as she slid her gaze back to Andrew. "Only a little bit longer, Andy. Then we’ll be out of your hair." She teased and Andrew wanted to tell her that they weren’t a bother. He was fine with this. But the words caught in his throat.

No one made a comment on that, but they did smile at him as Andrew was led away by a smiling Maxwell.
