Chapter 258: Over her dead body

Kim’s realtor was with the police as they came outside. It was clear that they didn’t mind her being there, and they also didn’t seem to be biased towards or against Andrew. He was glad that they weren’t letting any of their own emotions show. It might have to do with the overwhelming power of those around him, but he was still appreciative in the moment.

"Sir. We’ve taken the statement of Mr. Jordan. He is wanting to press charges. Before we continue with that, we would like to hear your side of the situation." Andrew nodded. He sat up on the bench, squeezing Maxwell’s hand before he reached into his pocket. He was nervous how the police would respond, but they didn’t move as Andrew pulled out his phone.

"Maxwell and I have just started looking for a home to purchase together. Maxwell is my partner. I think it’s important for you to know that I am a recently manifested true alpha, and Maxwell is an omega." That was when the colour changed slightly on their faces. Andrew didn’t probe, but continued speaking. "Maxwell’s Father suggested a specific realtor agency to us and we went house viewing with them yesterday, and today we were visiting with the realtor agency my aunt suggested." Andrew gestured to Kim who was nearby the realtor, and clearly keeping an eye on the police. Her eyes hadn’t turned back to their normal colour since the police had arrived.

"Kim Proctor." She offered, her eyes staring at them. Andrew wondered if that was the moment that they realised this could become a big issue.

"Uh, sorry for not getting straight to the point. We met here this morning, running through the houses we were planning to see today. Nothing was seriously off until we got to the first house." Andrew exhaled slowly, unlocking his phone and handing it over to the police. "You’ll see from our group chat that I began to notice that things weren’t...quite right. He started with some microaggressions. He began subtly hitting on Maxwell, demeaning me. Ignoring me sometimes in favour of trying to hit on my partner. I documented all of them, and Maxwell can confirm them." Andrew told them. The police took a second to look through the messages and time stamps on Andrew’s phone.

"So what made you get aggressive?" The lady cop asked and Andrew sighed.

"He implied that I would be taking on several more omegas after Maxwell. He basically called both of us fools, and said he was giving me advice as a fellow mated alpha. I snapped. He’d been hitting on Maxwell in front of me all day. I’ve only recently been given the all clear by my alpha Doctor, and with that, my rut is only days away, if not hours. It’s no excuse, but I saw red." Andrew told them calmly. The police listened, making notes.

"Is it alright if I keep your phone for a little longer, sir?" The male cop asked and Andrew nodded.

"That’s fine." Andrew agreed. He wasn’t trying to hide anything, and he also knew that Kim would beat the shit out of them, and go to jail if they pulled any funny business.

"I just want to confirm, you threw the first punch?" The lady cop asked and Andrew chuckled.

"Well, technically it was a headbutt, but yes. I know it’s a weak defense, but he had it coming. Implying that Maxwell is a baby making factory while knowing he’s a CEO of a major company? Disgusting." Andrew felt his pheromones surge and Maxwell planted his hand on Andrew’s thigh, giving it a squeeze.

"If you hadn’t done it, I would have. I was ready, too." Maxwell told him and Andrew turned, giving him a warm smile.

"Awe. You should have. That way we could have gone to jail together." Andrew joked, but no one else found it funny.

"Andrew, we are not letting you go to jail, even if they do decide to go with the charges. One, it’s too dangerous for you to be in a cell with others, especially with your rut so close, and two, no fucking nephew of mine is going to jail for defending the honour of his omega." Kim growled, every inch the true alpha she was. "What the fuck would your Mother say to me if I allowed it? She’d be rising from the dead to strangle me." Andrew’s lips twitched. His Mom would probably be pretty happy with him that he had protected Maxwell’s honour, though she probably would have wanted him to do it far sooner.

"You aren’t going to jail, sir." The lady cop assured him. "While we aren’t quite finished with our investigation, I feel confident in saying that won’t happen. We’ll have to get a few more testimonies, just to make sure we get the full picture. If I may? We would like to ask your partner some questions alone, if that’s alright." Andrew tensed, his whole body freezing up.

"Andy, he won’t be alone. I’ll go with him." Jenny offered, her tone soft, light. Andrew exhaled. He hadn’t realised a wave of his pheromones had gone out until Maxwell let out a soft noise. Andrew immediately reacted, apologising to Maxwell.

"I’m so-" Maxwell covered Andrew’s mouth, shaking his head as sweat beaded on his forehead and his face was flushed.

"Stop apologising, baby. It’s okay. We all know I have a condition, and you’re being unreasonable on yourself for keeping an eye on that. Especially so close to your rut. I’ll be fine. I’m reminding myself that soon I’ll have you to myself, and that’s how I’m getting through this." Maxwell told him, his blue gaze sharp as he met Andrew’s amber gaze. "Jenny, can you help me up? My knees are a little weak. Where to, officers?" Maxwell asked and they glanced around.

"How about we go over to the patrol car? We’ll keep the door open, but it should give us enough privacy to ask you some questions. Your guardian can stay with us there too." Andrew would have laughed at the thought that Maxwell needed a guardian at any other time. Instead, he watched him like a hawk as Jenny helped him to his feet, and the police officers trailed them, still holding onto Andrew’s phone.

"Is this normal?" Andrew asked, finally able to get words out of his mouth. It was Kim’s realtor who asked.

"Not really, but these are complicated times. You are special clients, and they are now realising that. I will also be filing charges against Brian. I’m so sorry that they did this. I found out while with Brian and listening to that disgusting man talk that he had stolen your two as clients from who I had originally assigned you two to. I cannot even begin to apologise for what has taken place, and I completely understand if you want to take us to court over this." She bowed deeply. Towards Kim at first, then towards Andrew and Maxwell’s parents.

No one said a thing until she stood back up. She looked distraught, but resigned.

"I’ve tried to keep this agency alive, but this is...I don’t think we deserve to survive after this." She shook her head, opening her mouth to speak more, but she shut it. It was clear that she was also rather emotional, and Andrew did feel bad for her. It couldn’t be a good feeling to come to the realisation that everything you had worked for had been ruined by one shitty man.

"Leave the agency, and we’ll consider it." Kim finally said as everyone watched the police speak to Maxwell. Maxwell had refused to sit down, forcing Jenny to sit in the back of the patrol car with the door open. Instead, Maxwell leaned against the back of the car, his arms crossed as he spoke. He did use his hands occasionally, but Andrew couldn’t read his lips or his expression that well.

"Understood." The realtor sounded resigned, but that was okay. It was clear to him that Kim liked her enough to even offer that.

Thomas chuckled at one point, shaking his head as a slight smile touched his lips. Andrew turned towards him, taking his gaze off of Maxwell for a moment to glance at him.

"What?" Andrew asked and Thomas glanced at him, his eyes sparkling just like his son’s when he caught someone in a trap.

"It appears as if our boy is giving them a run for their money. If they thought they were going to get a sobbing, emotional omega, they were wrong. Maxwell is emotional, but that emotion is angry. I believe he is ripping a strip off of them for something they said. I doubt that this Brian’s charges are going to stick, not after you showed our text conversations. Even if they try to delete them from your phone, we still all have copies." Thomas assured him and Andrew let out a sigh.

"Well, hopefully." Andrew said. He wasn’t going to say anything more on it until the police came back with Maxwell. He didn’t like that they had taken him to the patrol car. He knew that was just his personal feelings, but he couldn’t hide them.

Maxwell’s questioning went on a bit longer than Andrew’s, but when he came back he looked rather refreshed. The police went back inside, and Kim’s realtor followed them in as they got statements from everyone else. Andrew waited outside, a protective Kim ready to throw hands if they attempted to take him.

The paramedics were coming out around that time, and they were keeping to themselves. They did one final check on Andrew, just to make sure before they left. Then, the police came back.

"We will have to make a file on this." They started. "But, we don’t believe that this will go anywhere. With the evidence that you’ve provided, it’s clear that he had been antagonising you for quite some time. Given all the circumstantial evidence, if he continues to press charges instead of dropping it, we believe he’s going to lose. There are also recordings of the interaction, with audio, so that alone will help back up your defense. Thank you for bearing with us, and I hope you have a good rest of your night. If you have any concerns, please let us know. Here is my card." The lady cop handed it over to Maxwell, as Andrew felt his shoulders drop. Thank goodness.

They were gone shortly after that.

"So, dinner anyone?" Maxwell asked, turning with a smile. "We now have something to celebrate, don’t we?" Maxwell joked, but his eyes were hard blue stones in his head. Andrew sighed. He hoped the others had kept May and Ford in the loop. Andrew hadn’t been able to since the police had had his phone.
