Chapter 259: No one is suffering alone anymore
Thankfully, someone had the idea to let everyone else they were supposed to meet up for dinner with a heads up about the whole police situation. So instead of walking into a party where everyone was pissed at him, Andrew walked into a party where everyone was pissed for him.
These might sound similar, but they were completely different.
Once he stepped foot into the restaurant, it was almost as if May had scented him out. The group was at the door, giving their name to the hostess at front when May, her face flushed, her eyes angry orbs in her face, rushed forward. She didn’t hesitate to yank Andrew down by his jacket and then wrap her arms around him tightly.
"Did they do anything mean to you? Did they hurt you?" She demanded, and Andrew could feel the gaze of everyone around them going to them. The hostess was surprised, while Andrew was just feeling uncomfortable having someone else touch him.
He’d been feeling really sensitive about it since the encounter. He was sure it was another sign from his rut, but he didn’t want to worry anyone yet. He had already messaged Michael in the car.
Maxwell and Andrew had had their driving privileges taken away. Not because they were thought to be incompetent, but because they had gone through a shock. Maxwell hated being babied like this, but Andrew didn’t mind. He needed a few minutes in the back seat with Maxwell, his face in his shoulder as he just pulled the other man’s scent into his lungs.
Andrew awkwardly held May, very much not like himself and May pulled back, grabbing Andrew’s face in her hands and yanking him closer. It was quite awkward, but Andrew went with her demands, letting her bend him as she willed.
"You do not look good. Are you sure it’s okay for you to be out and about in public right now?" She demanded, glancing at the scary, stone-faced group behind them. Kim was still terrifying, and her gaze hadn’t dimmed from amber, just as Andrew’s hadn’t.
"I’ll be fine as long as you don’t make me separate from Max." Andrew muttered quietly, and May narrowed her eyes. She squeezed Andrew’s face one more time before she let him go, sighing.
"Alright. Everyone else is here. We got here on time. I honestly expected you to be held up further, given that the police were involved." May said casually, and every big ear in the vicinity perked up. Andrew sighed, while Maxwell slipped his hand into Andrew’s, now that May was done twisting and turning him like her plaything.
He knew she did it because she was checking up on him. Making sure he was okay. May was always looking out for him like that, and had been doing so before his Mom passed. He was sure that now that they were back in each other’s life, it had taken on a more personal meaning without his Mom around anymore. Andrew normally wouldn’t mind such behaviour, but he knew that his good behaviour was only going to stretch for so long. Today had been a damn long day. Maxwell squeezed his hand as instead of following the hostess, the group began to follow May back to the room that Maxwell had booked for them.
It was clear, as the group was led through the restaurant that they knew quite a few people. Kim and Jenny had to stop to talk to some people, as did Thomas and Luis. Maxwell, however, ignored everyone who wanted to speak to him, his jaw clenched, his grip on Andrew’s hand tight.
Andrew appreciated it. He didn’t think he would take well to some random alpha talking to him right now. The urge to grab him by the waist and drag him away to a cave was pretty strong. Andrew was barely resisting, but the way that despite his angry appearance, Maxwell’s pheromones that he wrapped around Andrew were soothing and calm? It was impressive, and very appreciated.
Unable to stop himself, knowing that Maxwell wasn’t much for pda, Andrew bent, rubbing his face against Maxwell’s shoulder, nearly knocking his glasses clear off. He let out a soft, needy sigh as he did so, inhaling Maxwell’s scent deeply into his lungs and felt his body relax.
Silence filled the room as Andrew stepped back, giving Maxwell’s hand a squeeze. Maxwell had halted in his tracks, a few steps from the room that May was also frozen a few steps from. When Andrew looked back, adjusting his glasses with his free hand, he noticed that even Kim, Jenny, Thomas and Luis were frozen. Had Andrew done something wrong?
He glanced down towards Maxwell, who at that moment jerked his head up, his ears and cheeks bright red. He didn’t look angry, only embarrassed and he huffed.
"Oh, you!" Maxwell exclaimed, before he yanked on Andrew’s hand, dragging him into the room.
May had a hand covering her mouth and she wouldn’t make eye contact with him as he passed her.
Inside the room, Richard, Rose, and Jordan were sitting on one side of the rounded table, while Amir and Ben were sitting with a few seats between them. They seemed to be engaging in conversation until Maxwell stormed in, Andrew in tow before he marched him over to a corner then slammed Andrew against it.
Andrew went willingly, not sure what Maxwell was getting at until Maxwell stood on his tippy toes, his face still flushed and he yanked Andrew’s head down into his shoulder.
"Why are you so damn fucking cute when others can see you? Can you tone it down? I don’t want others knowing how adorable you are!" Maxwell wasn’t shouting, but he was definitely scolding Andrew, that was for sure.
Andrew, however, only understood half of it as his face was buried in the soft fabric and nice smell of his favourite person.
"I’m not cute." Andrew protested, inhaling Maxwell’s scent deeply. "That’s you, Angel." Andrew protested, even as he indulged. Maxwell grumbled.
"Agree to disagree. I’m not going to argue with you about this while you are so close to the edge. Mom will get pissed at me if we don’t make it to that damn Doctor’s meeting after everything we’ve gone through so far." Maxwell’s fingers were firm in Andrew’s hair, against his body.
Andrew couldn’t help but chuckle, thinking back on all of the bullshit that they had been through already. Today had really taken the cake.
"We’re suing them, yeah?" Andrew asked Maxwell and Maxwell snorted.
"If you try to tell me not to, I’m going to throw what I just said out the window. On the behaviour they showed me alone, I want to sue them." Andrew agreed. Maxwell really should sue them for that alone. He reached down, wrapping his arms around him, knowing he was wrinkling Maxwell’s clothes, but he didn’t care.
"No, Angel. Take that useless waste of space to court. I hope his mate shreds his balls." Andrew murmured and Maxwell laughed.
"His balls, huh? You get more crude as the rut gets closer." Andrew sighed, ignoring the humour in Maxwell’s tone as he took his fill. It was only a few minutes later that he was able to surface, feeling more like himself. When he did, he found several sets of eyes on them, and that only made Andrew embarrassed, and protective.
"You aren’t allowed to get mad at Max." Andrew declared, his grip tightening on the man in his arms. Ben snorted, turning to face them fully.
"Why on earth would I be mad at my brother for yanking a man into a room and shoving his face into his throat? Maxwell is more than capable enough to know what to do and what not to do. You, however..." Ben tsked. "You look barely human, Andy. How on earth are you holding up? Especially after what I heard just happened." Ben’s voice, like the first time when Andrew met him, was harsh.
However, this time, he knew that it wasn’t malicious. Hopefully.
"Sheer will. Max needs to see the Doctor. All bets might be off once he’s out though." Andrew admitted. He was strong, but not strong enough to resist forever. Ben’s lips twitched.
"Well, stay safe. Use protection. Do whatever you need to to make sure you are both happy and content with the outcome. Has that Doctor friend been keeping an eye on you?" Doctor friend? As if he didn’t know Michael personally.
Andrew felt his lips twitch, and he was sure that was the intended effect. Ben was being a little bit of an asshole, just enough to get Andrew’s brain focused on the annoyance he was giving him instead of how much he wanted to be inside of Maxwell right now.
It was appreciated.
"Yeah. Michael knows everything that’s going on." Maxwell’s hand slid to Andrew’s ear, gripping it tightly.
"Is something else going on?" He asked dangerously and Andrew laughed nervously.
"Just...one thing. I’ve already messaged him. He said it wasn’t anything too worrying. I’m already feeling better. Thank you for putting up with me." Andrew said sincerely and Maxwell’s face warmed. His ears, which were normally what went red first, were boiling. It had to overflow to his cheeks.
"Damn right I would do this for you. It’s the bare minimum, considering how much you helped me." Maxwell said, and Andrew realised what he was implying. Andrew sighed, refusing to close his eyes because he knew all he would see would be pretty images of Maxwell in many, many sexual positions.
"Yes. We help each other." Andrew mused, before he exhaled slowly. "Let’s go sit down before the others come in. I think I can hear them." Andrew told him and Maxwell nodded, leading the way. They ended up sitting between Richard and Ben and Amir. Rose was on the other side of Richard, and Amir was closer to Maxwell. So Andrew and Richard were sat next to each other.
Richard looked awkward, but he was here, and that was enough support for Andrew. Especially after he had been dealing with Andrew being a bit moody over the last few days at work.
"So...it’s your rut?" He asked and Andrew nodded.
"Yeah. Everyone seems to think so." Andrew told Richard and Richard nodded.
"Sucks man. I’m here if you need anything. Obviously, the girls will miss you in the office, but we’ll manage somehow. Let me know if you need anything else, alright?" Richard offered, placing his hand on Andrew’s shoulder and giving it a squeeze.
It was quiet, but it was appreciated. Richard, unlike when he had been yelling and upset about him living in a house that Tracey could trace, was normally quiet in group settings. He’d only been like that because he had been at his parents home, somewhere he felt comfortable.
Actually, now that Andrew was looking at him. Richard didn’t appear all that well either.
"Richard, are you feeling alright?" Andrew asked and Richard nodded.
"Yeah. Think I’m coming down with something. Been taking fever medication and it’s been helping. Don’t worry. I’m just going to order some tea instead of drinking and enjoy some good food. I’ll go home and rest after this. Should be all better when you’re back from your rut." He gave him a thumbs up and Andrew frowned.
It wasn’t normal for Richard to get sick, at least from what he remembered of their childhood. Maybe things had changed from when he was around? He wanted to probe more, but that was when everyone else arrived back in the room, including Ford who had gone to the bathroom. That was why he wasn’t in the room when Andrew and Maxwell had stormed inside and were romantic with each other. Or, as Rose phrased it ’like two dogs in heat with everyone watching’. Andrew had gotten up to hit her for that one, but she’d taken the hit, laughing the whole time.
