Chapter 58: An invitation
When Ren told Haruki where the body was found, he asked if they could inform the police. Haruki glanced at his grand-uncle who brought everything upon himself and agreed to let the police investigate it themselves.
Without hesitation, he brought out the contract signed by his granduncle and placed it on the table. He asked to have everything investigated.
"You have done wrong, this family will not protect you because we can’t let the cancer spread further," Haruki announced.
"Have you lost your mind?" Haruki’s granduncle asked him. "Don’t you think all of these would affect the family? Do you think because you gave me up, the police will not hesitate to rope the entire family in with all the crimes? You’re in for some surprises."
Haruki did not respond to the man’s question but gestured to them to leave. They remained seated but Ren had the other men take them away.
"You have lost your mind! You will lose everything, this family my father built, you will destroy it all. Do you think they won’t find dirt on you the moment they begin investigating? I will tell them everything I know about you. I will expose you to the world. You will lose it all!"
More words of curses spewed out of the old man’s mouth before he was completely dragged out of the place and a grunt escaped his mouth. He made no other sound while his son who appeared to be lifeless was dragged out behind his father.
They were right. If the police decide to pull him into the mess, it would be hard for him to save the family but as long as he can cut off one branch to preserve the company, he is willing to.
He might have started in the Yakuza world but that did not mean he wanted to limit his family forever to the Yakuza world. That would be against his grandfather’s wish. His grandfather wanted him to completely pull his family out of the Yakuza world until the police had nothing to hold against them.
The laws were strict against such associations and Haruki would not want to lose the multiple companies and enterprises they had over a crime that was unnecessary considering there were many other businesses they could do in the underworld that wouldn’t attract the attention of the police.
It further infuriated him that they chose one of his guests. If the media had not announced what happened, Haruki would have cut his uncle off completely and given him over to the man whose son they killed but with the media and all eyes on the incident, he wanted the police to investigate it themselves.
The police investigation will get him on the good side of his partners and those he knew in the business world and his granduncle will be the fool who tried to destroy a massive company like theirs.
It could give some of his competitors better weapons to use against him but they wouldn’t be able to use the incident that was already out in the open.
There was no way a police investigation would connect this to him or his company so it was best to let it out in the open. With that on his mind, he ordered Kiyoshi to release Souta and let the police take action.
The more he thought of it the more he could relax. If the case was under the investigation of the police and all the culprits arrested, it reduced the chances of him having to deal with the father of the man.
He took a deep breath before asking for someone to serve him tea. Shinya’s brother once again served him tea. He stopped the younger man before he could leave.
"Sit down," he ordered a bit coldly. He could not remember his name so he asked.
"It’s Kotaro," the young man replied bowing his head, unwilling to meet Haruki’s gaze.
"Do you still think I killed your brother?" he asked still maintaining his cold tone.
"I . . ." the young man raised his head to look at Haruki but turned away almost immediately.
"I guess you still believe that," Haruki sighed. "Your brother died on my birthday, I was not even with him when it happened," Haruki informed the man calmly. There’s more evil connected to his birthday than good. He lost his parents on that day. Shinya also cruelly chose that day to end his life.
He was not sure Shinya knew his parents died on his birthday after all, they were together but he never told Shinya about his parents. He kept his past locked up behind him, it was a past that had no place in the life he was living.
There was a very low possibility that Shinya knew that truth but he still chose his birthday to die as though everyone who has ever loved liked leaving him on his birthday.
It was a scar he did not want to touch but seeing the solemn face of the young man before him, he could not help but remember that painful truth— his birthday was cursed.
"I. . ." Shinya parted his lips to speak but when he met Haruki’s gaze, he pressed his lips together and his fists on his sides were both tightly clenched.
"Don’t try to kill me now. I have to be alive and active to face the storm that’s coming," Haruki said calmly as he rose and stretched casually.

As Haruki expected, there was a thunderstorm that shook the whole city. A man’s body was found in a creek, it seemed that his body had floated but it could not be determined as it also didn’t look as though he had been in the water for too long.
The state he was found was what shocked everyone, he was missing three major organs – his heart, liver, and kidneys. It was very easy to guess what happened to him. He must have lost his organs to traffickers.
His uncle sent people to beg him saying they always cremated the bodies so there was no way they should have a body found but it was the man’s body from the result released by the forensic investigation.
Fear rose in the hearts of people. Haruki ordered the video of the man leaving the hotel to be released even a picture he took that night with one of Souta’s friends.
He completely separated his hotel from the news and being very open to the police about what they knew, made it easier for them to avoid being the focus of the investigation.

He got a call from a strange number after lunch on the day the murdered man’s father was coming to the country. Not recognizing the number, he did not bother picking up the call as he continued working.
He barely began focusing on his work when his phone rang again. It was his private number that was called this time and he looked down to see a restricted number on the screen.
He rejected the call trying to get back to the load of work he had to do but his phone vibrated signaling a message entry. He picked his phone up with an annoyed sigh and opened the message. It was the doctor who took a picture of his waist. The bruise he left there had significantly healed.
-Can I come over this night? I heard you haven’t been eating well. It is my job as your doctor to look out for you. I will make something nice for you this night.
Haruki looked at the message silently for a while before typing a short positive response. There was nothing wrong with wanting to eat something delicious from his new sex partner after all the man knew how to prepare warm homemade food.
He focused on work again just in time for him to receive another message. Thinking it was the doctor saying something else, he ignored him and continued working since they were going to meet later anyway. Three more beeps and another call from a strange number to his private number.
Haruki ignored the call and continued working. When he got off from work, it was past eight and he had not eaten dinner leaving space for his meal with Hiroshi.
"The doctor is waiting in the penthouse," Kiyoshi told him when they got inside.
Haruki had intended to go to the main house that night but with this said, without asking which of the penthouse was spoken off, he nodded.
"He called me saying he wanted to cook something for you so I told him to go there," Kiyoshi began explaining.
Haruki did not bother with a response as he asked, "Did you tell him I wasn’t eating well?"
"No . . . I . . . He called asking if you had been eating well. I told him you were but he asked if you had eaten dinner and he would like to make something for you if you hadn’t." freeweɓnovel-cøm
Haruki said nothing more as he leaned his head backwards and closed his eyes. He could hear the slight guilt in Kiyoshi’s voice as he tried to explain but he did not need it.
