Chapter 61: A plan

With compromised security, Hiroshi felt the need to remain with Haruki. He was not sure if he was the best person to protect Haruki but he knew how to shield someone with his body if need be.

He sat down after cleaning the dishes obediently but the next part of the sentence was something he felt too stubborn to obey.

Haruki, done changing back into his suit, walked down to see Haruki resting his head

against the dining table. Haruki thought the man was sleeping and decided to leave quietly but the man raised his head immediately and met Haruki’s gaze.

"Are you leaving?" he asked scanning Haruki from head to toe before rising and stretching.

"Go back home," Haruki ordered him instead of answering his question.

"I want to but no one is here with you," Hiroshi said calmly. "I will grab my keys."

Haruki did not feel the urge to speak to him anymore as he continued towards the door of the house.

Hiroshi ran to the guest room to get his car keys, not bothering to change into a better attire. he grabbed a jacket and put it on over his clothes, and followed Haruki out.

Kiyoshi was at the door as soon as Haruki opened the door. "I am sorry I could not protect you," Kiyoshi bowed deeply when he saw Haruki. "I went home only for a few minutes to get a call about what happened. He came in armed and none of the security could stop him."

Haruki did not bother responding as he continued down the wide corridor to the elevator. He was disappointed. This was the worst state his security had been in since he became chairman

First, a guest went missing, and it was not recognized or reported to the police until the third day. Second, the father of that guest came to his home and was uninvited, no one saw him coming, and no one could stop him.

If he were to be killed, the man would have done it too easily for someone who invested a lot in his security and the security of every building he owned. There was a reason he had Ren handle most of it.

News like this was very easy and fast to spread and Haruki could have it as a stain on his reputation. The more he thought of it, the more he wanted Ren to pay for his negligence and his irresponsibility. As he walked to his car, he considered changing all the security around him and his buildings.

He wondered where he could get security officers he could trust. Many of their security men in charge of the major protection of Haruki and his building were experienced Yakuza members who once worked with his grandfather, like Ren or retired secret service agents like Kiyoshi and having them fail woefully was an insult to him.

The disappointment slowly turned to embarrassment. He ignored Kiyoshi, who opened the car down for him, he chose another car instead.

Why would he want the useless guards around when they could not prevent a bunch of obviously armed foreigners from entering the top floor of the building?

Kiyoshi, following behind him, could almost guess correctly what was going on in Haruki’s mind. That was why he had apologized immediately, but seeing the cold expression Haruki wore, he was certain the man had not accepted the apology and someone would most likely pay for the mistake.

"You can’t go alone," Kiyoshi stopped Haruki from opening the door of his car. "I know we failed but it will be better to have us with you than you going alone."

"With you?" Haruki turned and looked at Kiyoshi. He gave him the once over with a hint of disdain in his gaze. "What can you do?" Haruki asked and his gaze warned Kiyoshi as he reached for the door again.

"Everything," Kiyoshi replied. "None of the guards was armed to fight those men off," Kiyoshi reminded Haruki. "They were all armed, and there was no way our men wouldn’t lose their lives if they tried and they did try. They were tied up and locked up in the security office. One of them got the chance to free himself and he called me."

"Report their break in the police," Haruki ordered. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Kiyoshi stopped his lips parted in disbelief. "I don’t think we should do that," Kiyoshi immediately gave him an opinion. "It could offend more people than we intend to."

"He came to my doorstep without permission, breaking into my house armed, and you think I am not offended enough to not care about what they think?" Haruki asked seriously.

"He is a prime minister of a country with close ties with our country. I am sure it will be difficult to have the police on our side," Kiyoshi reminded him with a helpless sigh. He could understand Haruki’s rage but acting this way could lead to something he does not want.

Haruki turned to Kiyoshi almost too calmly as he asked, "Do you work for him?"

"Uh?" Kiyoshi was taken aback by that question. He looked around helplessly before shaking his head firmly as he responded, "No, I work for you, that’s why I don’t think we should hand the case over to the police. He offended you, he insulted us and I think we should handle everything the way he wants it to be handled."

Hiroshi, standing on the side all along, could not help but chip in, "He asked for something in return for losing his son."

Kiyoshi looked at Hiroshi shocked by his input and even more surprised by the fact that Haruki did not bother to stop him.

"I bet he wants a life, I don’t think that man lacks anything," Kiyoshi could not help but sigh. This was the first time since he became Haruki’s assistant that he felt powerless. They were dealing with someone powerful, powerful in the underworld and equally politically powerful.

"Call Ren to the main house, lets head there," Haruki ordered Kiyoshi. He turned to go back to the car he had ignored earlier and Hiroshi began following him. Haruki turned to him his gaze icy, "Where are you going to?"

Hiroshi, who had been lost in thought, simply following his instinct to go after Haruki, paused and responded truthfully, "I want to go with you."

"Go home," Haruki’s tone was even colder and firmer this time without room for another option.

"I . . ." Hiroshi still began objecting. He sighed and nodded his head as he reminded himself that he could not be pushy or clingy.

Haruki entered the car and after Kiyoshi entered, the car left the underground parking lot. Hiroshi stood watching them leave and he could not help but feel abandoned. However, he knew this was probably the wrong time to show his support after all, to everyone, he was just a humble doctor.

Haruki was known as someone powerful, and even if the person who got to witness his weakness first-hand was his doctor, he could not help but feel an even stronger sense of embarrassment.

Ren suggested that Haruki could give the man his head. After all, it was partly his fault that the hotel staff had not noticed a guest was missing, especially as a guest was this important. If they had taken better note of their guests, they would have prevented any of this from happening.

This was the first time a guest had died while still staying at their hotel, and he felt responsible. He was in charge of the underworld businesses, and yet he had allowed Haruki’s uncle to run something like an organ transplanting ring, which was the beginning of all that happened.

Kiyoshi suggested they have his uncle and his sons pay with their lives even though they were already in police custody. At least that will satisfy a lot of people in the underworld and the man will feel as though he had his vengeance.

Haruki refused all those suggestions, making up his mind not to bow to the wants of the man. First, he was annoyed that the man had disrespected him more times than the number of times they met.

He decided to ignore the man’s threat and simply tighten his security.

He continued his work as though he was not threatened to offer a sacrifice to appease Sergei. He went to work normally while waiting for the time he was given to run out. He wanted to see what the man could do.

He was not the chairman of one of the largest companies in the continent to bow his head to one man. His pride could not even allow him to. He had nothing to fear. He had no one he was scared of losing anyone around him simply because he did not have anyone he was scared of losing.

One evening, he was back at the main house, where he chose to stay until the issues were over, and he received a message. He picked up his phone and glanced carelessly at the screen. It was the doctor.

- Can I come over for dinner?

He did not bother thinking too much as he reached and gave the man a positive response before informing Kiyoshi.
