Chapter 66: A deal?

Hiroshi’s gaze rose to his father’s face. He looked very calm, but underneath it all, his heart raced as he came to accept the fact that his father should never know what was going on and even if he did know, it was best to maintain this silence.

"Try and care more about who you are," his father reminded him of the responsibility he had to keep the family tied to Haruki’s family.

His father did not have any idea that he was using that effort to keep Haruki tied to him in a way that he could not let his father know.

"I understand," he replied solemnly with a slight bow. freewёbnoνel.com

His father nodded as though very understanding of his son’s situation before giving Hiroshi a gentle pat on his shoulder as he passed by Hiroshi to the door.

So many things weighed on his mind until it showed on his shoulders. Doctor Yamamoto, who was charmingly known for his self-confidence, had his shoulder slumped and folded in as though he had gotten the biggest anyone could get.

He was not known to be talkative, but this silence was recognized by those around him. He barely responded to any discussion outside of work, and his smile when talking to patients did not get to his eyes, the warmth in his eyes was replaced with emptiness with a hint of calmness, the type that gets followed by a storm.

"Do you want me to take over?" One of his colleagues was forced to ask as they stood before the door to the theatre.

Hiroshi paused raising his calm gave to the man’s worried eyes. He was taken aback to see such emotion, causing his brow to furrow slightly in confusion before he asked, "What do you mean?"

"You don’t look too good," the man responded truthfully.

"I am okay," Hiroshi corrected the man. He knew he was busy with work, a very delicate job dealing with precious human lives and his mind was fixed on the job he had before.

His colleague nodded calmly, but the hesitation in his gaze was not hard to notice, although he seemed to want to hide it. They got back to work as though Hiroshi’s pale skin was not looking a shade paler.

"I need you to step back from this," Haruki spoke on the phone to an officer.

"Don’t do anything crazy," the man warned with a hint of familiarity.

"When he came into my home armed, you did nothing about it, I expect you to do the same now," Haruki replied before stepping into the car.

A convoy of six black-tinted cars drove away from the gate of Haruki’s house.

"You know we can’t do that," the man began with a helpless tone.

"You have to," Haruki’s voice was not rude but held a finality with no intention of backing out. Without waiting for the man’s response, he hung up and returned the phone to Kiyoshi.

Kiyoshi turned to look at him with a bit of worry. "Are . . ." He began but pressed his lips together to form a thin line followed by a thick heavy silence.

"You don’t have to worry," Haruki decided to break the silence confidently.

The building they drove to was heavily guarded, but they were not stopped at the gate, and only on a closer look would one notice the guards were Haruki’s men.

Haruki stepped down from the car calmly and walked into the Western-style mansion before him.

Kiyoshi followed closely with a slight furrow of his brow. They were greeted by the sight of Mr. Sergei seated on a sofa in the drawing room, surrounded by more of Haruki’s men.

The man dressed in blue silk pyjamas sat confidently on the leather chair as though he knew there was no way any harm could come to him.

Ren walked in after Haruki and bowed to him. Haruki stretched his hands to the man and gave him a firm pat on his shoulder and a nod of acknowledgement to which Ren bowed once again in response.

Haruki walked calmly to the man and sat on the sofa opposite him before asking with familiarity, "How was your night?"

The man was calm—as though he was not surrounded by more than thirty armed men— as he met Haruki’s gaze.

"Your men are very good guard dogs; I had no cause to fret," the man responded calmly.

Haruki ignored the insult in the man’s words as he said, "I am glad they were able to help," Haruki responded. "I am sure you know well enough that I am not someone who enjoys such conflicts. I wish you and I hadn’t been through this, but since it happened, I want to apologize appropriately," Haruki said.

Considering the method with which Haruki came into the man’s house, the man was not expecting him to speak of offering an apology. He looked at Haruki intently as though searching for the lie in Haruki’s words.

Haruki met his gaze trying to show as much plainness as he could show to prove his sincerity to the man.

"I have handed them over to the police but there is a way to get them out. I will give you their heads as an apology for what they took from you but will need time to do that since in case you don’t know, I am an honest businessman and the underworld is no longer a place for me," Haruki spoke so many words to the man, more words than he could remember saying of recent.

The man leaned backwards his gaze holding a coldness he seemed to want Haruki to take notice of. "I lost a son, what are you willing to lose?"

"Nothing," Haruki told him firmly. "Since I chose to play your game, you have to remember there are rules set in place."

"I set the rules, right?" The man smiled coldly and asked.

"No, my uncle took something from you and I am willing to hand him over to you. You can go ahead and take what he loves from him. I have no obligation to give you anything but his head."

The man paused as though considering Haruki’s words seriously. He looked at the armed men in his drawing room and he shook his head before leaning forward and said, "Fine."

Haruki’s brow furrowed surprised and confused by the man’s sudden agreement.

"But under one condition," the man began leaning backwards once again and scanning Haruki from head to toe.

Haruki felt the man’s words were a confirmation of what he had thought of, but he could not imagine what the man was going to ask for.

"What do you want?" Haruki asked calmly as he waited for the worst the man could say.

"You give me your body," the man scanned Haruki’s body with a sticky, uncomfortable gaze before meeting his gaze and making such a request.

Every man in the room got tensed, including Haruki, as much as he tried not to let it show. Ren took a step forward, unpleased with the insult, and a couple of men directly under followed his step, but Haruki raised his hand to stop them.

"You just lost your son," Haruki found the man’s words to be the most insulting to the man’s son whom the man was trying to avenge. He was asking for something sexual over the dead body of his son.

He scanned the man with disgust evident in his gaze before calming down and having a cold unexpressive gaze.

"Yes, and that is something I am so displeased that I can’t change. I would have asked for a woman if you had a sister or a wife but the more I look at you, the more I think someone as beautiful as you would work perfectly. In fact, I will be very pleased with the offer."

Ren took another step towards the man before he was stopped by Haruki again. He knew how much Haruki hated being called beautiful, and he knew what Haruki wanted the most at the moment was to bury a knife in the man’s neck, but I wanted more than anything to do it for him instead.

"Angry?" The man leaned forward and asked, smiling playfully. "Imagine how angry I was when I lost my son. I have agreed with your offer, but it will be a loss on my side if I don’t get you to experience the same sense of loss I experienced. That’s why I am giving you another offer. The right amount of humiliation will appease me well," the man said.

Men like this needed to be buried deep in the ground, never to see the light of day, and that’s what Haruki wanted so badly to do to the man, but he had an interest in killing the prime minister of a country in close relation with his country.

"I don’t care what you think about this" the man began. "I am giving you a good deal and I expect you to take it with the right amount of appreciation," the man said with a hint of arrogance.
