[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 109: Ch : Causing a rift
Everyone froze as Lady Elysia spoke what they all thought in their mind. Their eyes immediately looked at Princess Danielle to see her expression.
She had frozen as well, but only for a few seconds before she pulled herself back.
"Whether you send an invitation to me or to Shuu, it will be the same thing. After all, we are both part of the imperial family."
She quickly salvaged the situation but the damage had already been done.
Once again, people were beginning to reevaluate their situation inside their mind and they came to the quick conclusion that it would be better to try and get close to Shuu than Princess Danielle.
After all, no matter how hard Princess Danielle tried, the one in power would always be Companion Shuu.
"Hmm, I think it’s enough about me. What about you, Companion Shuu? Do you truly have no intention of marrying Emperor Kaiden anytime soon?"
Elysia was a good manipulator so she quickly shifted the situation back to Shuu.
He felt out of his depth and he wanted to look at Lady Elysia for help. But she had already turned her head away from him.
"I...marriage is not really something I have thought about. Besides, both Emperor Kaiden and I are happy with our current relationship, so..."
He spoke quickly, causing Lady Elysia to smile.
"Is that so? Well, as long as you both are happy, I guess we should all be happy as well."
Shuu had a sudden feeling that he had said something wrong. The people around the table did not show it, but their eyes suddenly shined with interest at his words.
Moreover, Princess Danielle had gone silent by his side and she simply sipped her tea.
It was an awkward silence where they all sat down and wondered what they should do next. Should they try and appeal to Princess Danielle? Or turn toward Consort Shuu...? 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
The tense silence was broken by light footsteps and two small figures headed toward Shuu before clutching his legs.
"Shuu, Rin and I...tired. Go back...?"
Golden and red looked back at him and he sighed before he turned toward Princess Daniells.
"I think I should take my leave now. These kids are too tired and I need to get them to bed."
Shuu told her and she nodded.
Shuu quickly left with the kids and Princess Danielle let out a sigh that felt like relief.
’Huh...did I just...feel relief that Shuu is gone?’
It was not a good sigh. It made her feel like she was becoming too cautious of him for no reason. But despite knowing this, she could not change her reaction.
’I have no time to feel sorry like this. I need to change the situation now that Shuu is gone...’
She reminded herself and her expression changed. But before she could say anything, Lady Elysia spoke up once more.
"Hmm, would you look at the time? I am afraid that I should get going now. It was a lovely tea party, Princess Danielle. I am already looking forward to the next one you will invite me to. I have a lot I want to talk to Companion Shuu about as well."
She stood up and gave a polite bow before she took her leave.
Once she showed the courage, a few more found excuses to leave as well.
Those who were left behind were the people who were on her side and wanted to take advantage of her. But truthfully, they were also a little on edge after that happened.
It seemed clear that there was a shift in balance around the imperial capital and Princess Danielle was being pushed out. They needed to invest in their future more carefully now.
Within an hour, they had all left and Princess Danielle sat at the table alone. A lot of tea had been left behind but she showed no reaction to it.
"Miss, what should I do with all this..."
The maid asked in an almost scared voice. She had never seen her miss this quite so she was not sure what to do.
A blank look was given to her before Princess Danielle turned her eyes toward the tea in front of her.
"Oh this...? Dispose of it all. I do not want to see it in front of me. You all can take home what you want as well."
She told the servants and they nodded and quickly emptied out the stash.
They were on her side because she treated them well and gave them funds. But even the servants had noticed the shift in power in the imperial palace.
Princess Danielle might be overseeing things, but if Companion Shuu made a final decision, then she was not able to get her way most of the time.
Luckily for her, Companion Shuu looked disinterested in gaining any power...for now...
’But how long will it last? My position here is just as unstable as it was during Lady Sera’s time... No! I don’t need to think like that. There is no need for me to make an enemy out of Shuu...’
__________
"Hmmmm...hmm...hmmm"
"You seem to be in a good mood. Was the tea party that good, Elysia?"
Baron Conner asked his daughter. Elysia Conner had a huge smile on her face and she was humming as well.
Just looking at it made him feel better about his decision to sneak her inside the imperial palace.
"I had fun. I also got to do what I wanted to, so I have no regrets. You will continue to get me more invitations as well, right father?"
She asked and Baron Conner nodded.
"Of course. If this is what my daughter wants, then I will get you as many as you want."
He promised without hesitation.
He knew that he was risking a lot by doing this. He was going against the emperor’s order, but he did not care.
To him, the happiness of his daughter was the most important, and the only way to achieve it was by her marriage.
So if this was what she wanted before she agreed to it, then this was what he would give her.
’Besides, just what can Elysia even do? She is a docile and kind child.’
