"You should rest for now. This child will wake up soon. But it would be a disaster if you were to collapse instead."

The doctor told Shuu as he went out of the room. He looked sorry for Shuu, but Shuu pretended he could not see the doctor and kept his eyes on Rin, who was sleeping on the bed.

"I will leave you alone for now as well. Boss Honda might come looking for you soon because you are both pretty and young. Just... make sure you keep yourself safe here."

Sasha, the kind guide who helped him out, finally left with one last look back at Shuu.

Shuu felt overwhelmed with all that had happened up until now, and for the first time, he felt like he was allowed to take a deep breath and look around.

The first thing he noticed was that Rin looked older. He looked like he was around five years old, and his hair had turned brown. Shuu had not seen his eyes, but he doubted they were still red.

Whatever magic had been making Rin look like Lady Sera and Kaiden had finally fallen off and allowed his natural colors to shine through.

And yet, despite this, Shuu did not feel any different toward Rin. He was a child Shuu had promised to protect, and that was what he was going to do. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"Rin, wake up soon. I just need to know that you are alright... that’s all..."

Shuu whispered as he closed his eyes and his body sagged back against the bed. He finally felt a little free, and the tension started to leave his frame.

He was exhausted by this point. It had been a long day, and Shuu had not gotten any time to himself. He finally closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Thankfully, no one came around to disturb him, and he had a feeling it was thanks to Sasha’s handiwork.

Shuu finally woke up when his stomach reminded him that it was time to eat. He locked the door before heading out to check if he could get something to eat.

He ran into another guide on the way to find food, but unlike Sasha, this one was rude and not nice.

"Tsk, what are you doing out here? Don’t you know that a worm like you needs to keep out of an elite’s way? Ugh, just looking at you is making me feel like I have no motivation left."

The female guide complained, and Shuu no longer felt like asking her for directions. He allowed the female guide to say whatever she wanted, and his lack of response agitated her enough that she threw something toward Shuu.

Shuu did not move, and something cut across his face.

Once again, his lack of reaction only seemed to anger the guide even more.

"Y-You bastard-! First you ignore me, and now you are purposely getting hurt so that I would get blamed for this? Who do you think you are-?"

"Jenna, it’s alright. He did not mean to disrespect you. He’s new here, and he’s also young. Don’t you recall what you were like when you first came here? He will learn with time as well."

Sasha arrived just in time to see Jenna dangling Shuu off his feet, and she interfered before someone could get seriously injured.

Jenna looked frustrated, and she finally let Shuu back onto his feet. Then she rubbed her forehead before walking away without so much as an apology.

"Ah, I apologize in Jenna’s stead, kid. She’s not a bad person, but she is certainly going through a lot at the moment, and that is making her cranky. Just... pretend she is not here, and I will help you out as much as I can. Now, what are you doing out here?"

Sasha asked as she kept looking at Jenna. Her eyes looked extra soft, and Shuu felt like he could read a lot of emotion in them that he should not be reading.

So he quickly suppressed his emotions and faced Sasha with a blank expression.

"I was looking for some food. I want Rin to eat something once he wakes up."

Shuu was hungry as well, but his primary goal was to get something for Rin.

Sasha looked touched to see him caring about the kid so much. She could even spot tears in his eyes that did not fall.

"I see. You seem to care for that kid a lot. Are you related? You don’t look alike, but in this day and age, who knows... Ah, as for food, come with me. I will show you where the food is so that you can get it on your own in the future."

Sasha tugged for Shuu to follow, and he did as he was asked.

Honestly, Shuu had no idea how he should answer her question regarding his relationship with Rin. He had never officially adopted the child, but he still considered him family.

’Then again, it does not matter what labels we have. Rin will always remain precious to me.’

This was what Shuu decided as he followed Sasha.

They reached the pantry, but before Shuu could step inside, he saw Sasha tense up. Her eyes turned toward the door of the pantry, and Shuu noticed Boss Honda there as well.

He was not alone, and Shuu noticed how Jenna was plastered across the boss’s chest and seemed to be playing with his hair. She was trying her hardest to make the boss pay attention to her.

And the boss did pay attention to her... until he noticed Sasha and then saw Shuu standing behind her.

That made the boss change his target, and he immediately headed toward Shuu instead.

"My dear-! What are you doing here? Did you come to see me? Come, I will show you a good time. I promise that you won’t look for another esper once you’ve been with me and tasted what luxury really is."

The older man promised, and Shuu became well aware of the glares he was getting from everyone around them.
