Blessing Of Yuri Goddess-Chapter 298 - 6 - Marquess Rommel Behind The Scene Operations
In the middle of the night before dawn, Marquess Rommel was still busy with reports on the preparations for one of his small troop divisions, which would carry out a military expedition into the deepest part of the forest still within his territory.
Accompanied by one of the Butlers who had been loyal to him when he was young, Marquess Rommel had to work hard in making the final preparations for the departure of his beloved daughters, who would go on a military expedition to the deepest part of the forest.
Sweat flowed from his face nonstop, along with the feeling of fatigue that began to fill his body.
Amidst his sleepy eyes, Marquess Rommel suddenly smelled a familiar scent entering his nose.
Crack...
Kraauuss...
Krauss...
Inside his study, Sebastian appeared to be weighing something black that looked like seeds. The aroma emitted by the black seeds made Marquess Rommel clear his throat to get Sebastian’s attention.
"Cough! Are you preparing a drink that will keep me awake until morning again, Sebastian?" asked Marquess Rommel, stopping the movement of his hand that was preparing the report.
Krauuuss...
Kraauusss...
"Yes, Marquess Rommel. It’s time for you to get the extra stamina that comes from the black seeds given to you by Lily-sama," Sebastian replied with his hand movements that seemed to be spinning something.
Positioning his body facing Marquess Rommel, he showed a piece of equipment that Lily had made and some black seeds that were still mysterious to Marquess Rommel.
Several years ago, Lily and Marchioness Amagi discovered a mysterious tree seed that originated from the deep forest of the village where her family was vacationing.
Free time and productive activities make Lily study a plant seed that was often used by the Great Heroes in the past to relax and replenish their stamina to stay awake all night.
The seeds in question were coffee beans that happened to grow abundantly in a forest that was became private domain of Marquess Rommel when he was disguised as a merchant in a secret area that was his vacation spot.
Coffee beans that have been developed through a perfect drying process are able to last for several years and experience a delicious taste that is loved by adult men.
Kraaaauss...
Krraauusss...
Sebastian seemed to grind his coffee beans until they were fine and began to place them on a thin cloth that was used as a filter.
Pyyuurrr...
By preparing two different cups, Sebastian seemed to want to enjoy the same cup of coffee as Marquess Rommel during his break.
The hot pot that Sebastian was holding began to fill the filter and revealed hot coffee that spread a delicious aroma inside Marquess Rommel’s study.
"This soothing aroma... it would be a shame if the busy King could not enjoy such a delicious drink," said Marquess Rommel as he leaned back in his chair.
His closeness to the King in the past reminded him of their circumstances, who busy with internal and external affairs of the Royal Palace. His age, which was no longer young, and the fatigue that was beginning to be felt made Marquess Rommel remember his past, which was quite extremist.
"That is truly a shame, Marquess Rommel."
"But it can’t be helped... circumstances have forced us to remain at odds with the royal family even after the warring seasons between the nobles are over," Sebastian said as he brought a cup of coffee to Marquess Rommel’s desk.
Ctaakk...
Ctaakk...
By placing a cup of black coffee on Marquess Rommel’s table, it made Marquess Rommel’s hand immediately pick up the cup and drink it slowly.
The delicious aroma of coffee immediately entered his nose.
"What a calming aroma. If this were sold to the people in the Royal Capital of Aurora, would this coffee bean sell well?" Marquess Rommel asked, throwing a question to Sebastian, who was starting to sit on one of the chairs not far from his desk.
"I think it will sell well to adults who like the effects of these coffee beans, Marquess Rommel."
"Only adults? What about the young people?"
"I think it will be difficult for young people to accept because the bitter taste is hard for their tongues to accept. Even Alice-sama and Alyssa-sama don’t like the bitter taste of this kind of coffee."
"They both don’t like this bitter food, but Lily likes this bitter taste in her spare time, right?"
"Yes, Lily-sama sometimes enjoys a cup of coffee after a hard day and wants to relax until midnight."
"Lily sometimes has unique and different tastes from her younger sister, huh?"
While enjoying the cold air that had passed midnight, it made Marquess Rommel feel uncomfortable with the situation that had been happening lately.
The nobles who should be busy taking care of their territories have to compete with each other after the inter-noble war season that occurs once every ten years.
That foolish tradition would certainly make the military nobles smile calmly with their undoubted abilities in war. But for a noble who had no war skills, it would be very disadvantageous.
The increasing burden of thought made Marquess Rommel smile.
"Sebastian, what do you think will happen when neutral nobles like us win a war after two opposing factions attack us at the same time?" Marquess Rommel asked with a smile that made Sebastian choke on his cup of coffee.
"Cough!" Sebastian tried to calm himself, who was choking, and regulate his breathing to calm down.
"That’s a complicated question, especially with such unpredictable circumstances, Marquess Rommel," Sebastian replied after he had calmed down after choking earlier.
"Wouldn’t it be interesting if a neutral noble family won a battle that was supposed to be unwinnable?"
"It will become even more complicated after the faction supporting the noble family loses public trust after losing the war."
"That was the price they had to pay after losing the war, wasn’t it?"
While throwing a question to surprise Sebastian during his break, Marquess Rommel tried to relax in a heavy conversation topic like this.
The uncertain future and his family being cornered by the attacks that will be carried out by two different factions in the season of war between nobles has made some civilians afraid.
Some of the reports that came across his desk were from the decreasing population of citizens who did not want to join the battlefield to protect their birthplace.
Marquess Rommel understood their fear of this and understood what they did is not want became pawn in a war controlled by the nobles.
The large population decline made Marquess Rommel feel relieved that his responsibilities were decreasing as well.
The population that decreased in his territory was logical, considering the limited main troops force of Marquess Rommel. With a large area filled with forests and mountains, it would make the movement of troops in Marquess Rommel’s defense line take quite a long time, and Marquess Rommel understood this one thing.
The advantage of war tactics that can utilize forests as battlefields or mountains as defense areas is a strategic advantage, if the battle takes place in that place.
The problem was Marquess Rommel did not know the direction of the attacks that would be carried out by the two different factions that would become his enemies.
"The price they paid after losing the war was quite high, huh?" Marquess Rommel commented on Sebastian’s previous statement.
Nod...
Sebastian just nodded at that and went back to enjoying the cup of coffee he had made.
The bitter taste of coffee and the effects of caffeine that entered his body immediately made his old body excited again with explosive stamina. For the next few hours, Sebastian would work hard nonstop because of the effects of caffeine that made him too excited in the morning.
"I hope... this war season will not cause too many casualties and stop a stupid tradition carried on by the bloodthirsty nobles of the past," muttered Marquess Rommel, who seemed to be thinking about something.
"Although the Aurora Temple covers all casualties and injuries in this war between nobles, I am not sure their Saintess will be mentally strong enough to recover from the deaths that will be caused by my own family," Marquess Rommel continued in a weak voice.
The relaxed conversation between Marquess Rommel and Sebastian was suddenly interrupted by the sound of a pigeon carrying a message on its leg.
Knock...
Knock...
By knocking on the glass window and tapping its beak to attract Marquess Rommel’s attention, the pigeon managed to enter Marquess Rommel’s office safely.
"By the Goddess Aurora, Marquess Rommel!"
"You made it a hassle for me to send this damn pigeon into your territory filled with scout falcons that have been spread by your enemies!" said the pigeon with its bright green pupils.
Marquess Rommel just smiled after seeing the pigeons that entered his office, sounding more chatty than usual.
"Don’t blame me for the scout falcons who make pigeons one of their main foods," said Marquess Rommel, taking a message attached to one of the pigeons’ legs.
"This is your fault! It’s your fault! You think I’m not bothered by this stupid and ridiculous political situation in the Royal Palace!" the pigeon grumbled in an annoyed tone to Marquess Rommel.
"That’s why I’m not tied to any of the noble factions in the season of war between nobles. Being a noble tied to one of the factions is troublesome, you know," Marquess Rommel replied as he opened a message addressed to him.
The pigeons being controlled by someone in the Royal Palace were from one of the noble factions that were very close to the royal family. Although Marquess Rommel had severed his close ties with the King, he had formed a personal network to monitored the emergency situation that was happening in the Royal Palace.
Marquess Rommel’s eyebrows twitched after reading the report brought by the pigeon in front of him.
"As Lily and Earl Timoti said, you guys are having a hard time dealing with the heretical sect that has been moving freely inside the Royal Capital of Aurora. Are you guys stupid or unreliable?" Marquess Rommel said in a sarcastic tone to someone who was controlling the pigeon in front of him.
"Whose fault do you think this is? If the King did not have to hesitate in making decisions, he would send you to take care of this matter. However, with him being pressured by various parties, his wife, and his daughter... Do you know how chaotic it is in the Royal Palace right now?"
"Oh, Damn... thank goodness that’s not my problem anymore."
The additional information that Marquess Rommel had obtained indicated that preparations for a military expedition to explore the deepest parts of the jungle were almost complete.
