Chapter 27: A Deal With Her Parents

Damon sat across from Derek and Hattie, while Charlotte sat between her parents nervously.

They decided to move into Damon’s study room to have more privacy, but Charlotte thought the close room made the atmosphere feel heavy and awkward.

Hattie’s eyes never left Damon as she spoke. "Explain your relationship with my daughter."

Charlotte nudged on her mom’s shirt, whispering, "Mom, I told you—"

"No, not you sweetie. I want him to answer it by himself."

The last time she allowed Charlotte to defend her mate, the results had been disastrous. Therefore, she wanted to judge Damon without her daughter’s involvement.

Damon, on the other side, appeared a bit stiff, his calm demeanor suddenly vanishing under the intensity of Hattie’s gaze.

It never occurred to Charlotte that her mother was capable of making a strong and respectable alpha like Damon nervous.

He cleared his throat before speaking, "I understand your concern, Mrs. Dawson. My family issue is not something I am proud of, but I assure you, I don’t have any intention to hurt your daughter."

"Otherwise, I marked Charlotte to protect her from Julian," Damon continued. "As you may know, Julian could track Charlotte’s whereabouts through his mark on her. Forcibly breaking their bond would have caused her immense pain, and I couldn’t let her endure that."

Hattie and Derek were well aware that letting the Nocturnal Order break Charlotte’s bond with Julian could leave her permanently scarred.

They could never allow their sweet daughter to endure such a fate.

Hattie softened her expression. "The last time I entrusted my daughter to one of your family, she suffered more than I could have imagined. How can I be certain this time will be different?"

Derek also spoke up, his deep voice filled with skepticism. "We’ve seen what happens when someone promises to protect our daughter and then fails. Words mean little to us now, Damon. How will you ensure Charlotte never goes through that pain again?"

Damon replied firmly, "I’ve taken a blood oath, swearing on my blood that I will never harm Charlotte or raise a hand against her."

"I vowed to protect her from any danger, including myself, and to remain loyal to her until my last breath."

Derek and Hattie widened their eyes at the same time. They couldn’t believe what they had heard.

"You’re aware of the consequences if you break that oath, aren’t you?" Derek asked in disbelief.

If he broke it, then he would die in a painful way. Therefore, it was rare for an alpha to form a blood oath to others, even their own Luna.

"I know it very well," Damon replied firmly. "But as you said, words alone aren’t enough to prove my sincerity to Charlotte."

He straightened his posture, his gray eyes meeting Derek and Hattie’s unflinchingly. "I promise to take full responsibility for Charlotte’s happiness, safety, and well-being."

And he had proven it to her from the day he took a blood oath.

"Mom, Dad ..." Charlotte assured them, "Damon has already done so much for me. He helped me escape Julian, stood by me through the divorce, and gave me a chance to rebuild my life. I wouldn’t be here without him."

"Please, Dad, give me one last chance to be with my mate," Charlotte pleaded, clutching her father’s arm gently. "I promise things will be different this time."

Derek let out a tired sigh, his gaze shifting between his daughter and Damon. "You know I’m weak when you beg me like this, sweetie, but this time, I can’t just hand you over to someone else without being sure it’s the right decision."

"But, Dad—" freēnovelkiss.com

"I have one condition." Derek cut her off and looked Damon straight in the eyes. "I’ll visit every week, and if anything happens to my daughter, I’ll take her home immediately, no arguments, no excuses."

Damon nodded respectfully. "That’s not an issue. This manor will always be open for you, Mr. and Mrs. Dawson."

Hattie added, "I also want you to allow Charlotte to come home whenever she wants, without any restrictions."

"Of course," Damon replied. "Charlotte is free to visit home whenever she wants, and I would never stop her."

Hattie gave him a last warning. "If you fail her, Damon, I’ll hang your head in my living room."

"Mom, no!" Charlotte’s face turned pale when she heard her mother’s threat.

They had abandoned that barbaric lifestyle for over a century and Charlotte didn’t want her parents to bring that tradition back to life.

"I accept that condition." Damon was no better than her parents. "My head will be yours."

Hattie smiled. "Then, we have a deal."

They were still hesitant to let their daughter stay with her mate, but the blood oath was enough to assure them that Damon would never harm Charlotte.

"Charlotte, from now on, you have to tell me everything if something bad happens to you." Hattie gently stroked her daughter’s hair. "No more hiding."

Charlotte nodded. "I promise, Mom. I’ll never keep anything from you again."

"You can stay here for a while, Mr. Dawson, Mrs. Dawson." Damon said, "I can prepare a room for you."

Damon could see that Charlotte was reluctant to part with her parents too soon.

Therefore, it would be better if she could spend more time with her parents, especially after going through the court.

"Mom, you’re not leaving now, are you?" Charlotte asked.

"Oh, how can I leave when you look at me with such a face?" Hattie chuckled, gently patting Charlotte’s head. "We’ll stay here as long as you need us."

Charlotte felt a warmth in her chest at her mother’s words. It had been so long since she had felt this kind of comfort from her parents, especially after everything that had happened.

"Thank you, Mom," Charlotte whispered, "I really need you both right now."

Hattie smiled softly. "We’re not going anywhere now, sweetheart."

Derek, who had been quietly observing, spoke up. "We’re not going anywhere until we know you’re truly okay."
