Chapter 189: Be careful

The monster was pitch black, like night made flesh, with eyes of endless darkness, a hunched back, and a tail that lashed the air. A Riftborn Titan!

Its mouth, filled with fangs, opened in a laugh. "Humans!"

Its wings suddenly flapped faster, only to slow moments later, spreading above them. The wings expanded, staining the air like ink, and moments later, they were covered in darkness.

It was as if night had come—and so fast too! The darkness was too thick to be normal; it was as if they were submerged in inky waters without the liquid touching them.

Vale and Takoda recognized the darkness immediately. It was the technique Sevrix used—the one where he planted a type of swelling shadow on the chief.

Without waiting, Vale created fireballs around his tower. At the same time, silver light shone around where Steelclaw was, but all of this failed to illuminate the darkness.

The light was there, but it didn’t cut through the dark. Laughter echoed around them as the monster flickered, stepping from one darkness to another.

Suddenly, Takoda whirled, his claws striking out and catching the monster on the side as it materialized beside him, but the monster simply collapsed on itself.

Vale understood what it wanted to do—plant that essence-sucking spirit on them. "No parasite is allowed here!"

Vale bellowed, and the law spread throughout the space, followed by the monster’s howl as it realized it wouldn’t be using its most powerful skill again. It could only try to fight them physically.

Flagbearer Pomora turned to the other Flagbearers. Those inside the tower wouldn’t be affected by what she was about to do. "Hold your breath."

As a Water Knight, she always expected water to be wherever she went. The best way to obtain water was by drawing moisture from the air, but that wasn’t always an option—it depended on the environment, like now.

The second method was to create water, which was the most reliable but could be slow and energy-consuming. So, Knights who relied on materials like water often found ways to store them.

Her spatial ring shimmered, and a small mirror floated in front of her. The surface of the mirror shuddered and reflected a dark blue place, as if submerged in water.

The artifact was a one-way portal, and this one was connected to a water source.

With a twist of her hand, the mirror expanded, and then water jetted out of it, so fast and sharp that it began to fill the space quickly.

"You fool! I can’t breathe. I can’t drown!" the monster laughed.

The water filled the space rapidly, and the pressure pushed everyone toward the walls of darkness, pressing them against it.

Although underwater now, Pomora spoke as if a gentle breeze surrounded her. "I’m not targeting you."

The water suddenly surged and twisted, shredding through like a storm of blades.

The monster howled as they were returned to the sunlight of the Rift. The water had formed a bubble around it. The amount of water should have been greater, but she was compressing it, exerting pressure as she crushed it. The water turned black immediately.

Pomora nodded, and without another word, they continued moving forward.

"That’s brutal," Slya whispered from her place inside the tower, speaking to Tiber.

"Even though Vale suppressed that monster’s main power, the strength that Master Knights possess is terrifying." Tiber’s eyes were fixed on the viewing wall, catching every detail.

Vale chuckled, his voice appearing only inside the tower. "Wait till you see them fighting. It’s not something you want to get close to, but you definitely want to see it. Don’t worry though, you’re inside the Commander’s Tower!"

Before he even finished speaking, they felt another monster approaching. Not one, but three at the same time. Immediately, Vale saw them and winced.

"Short time no see, Commander!" a female voice said.

It was a muscular female monster, standing on a small feathered flying creature. Her entire body seemed to be made of green solid slime. She smiled. "Surprised? This is my real body!"

Beside her was a monster hidden behind a cloak. Only his eyes, tainted with green, were visible. He stood atop a serpent-scaled serpent that appeared to fly. The serpent seemed to have been cut apart and then glued back together with a green sticky liquid.

Vale ignored the eyes on him and changed his law immediately. "Corruption is forbidden here!"

The words hit the green monster like a blow to the head, and she sagged. "Ah... yes. Some of my power and strength appear to be sealed? But I can still maintain my corrupted beings. I just can’t make new ones. Good by me! I just need to kill you and take you with me, Commander!"

Vale froze when he heard that, and ice filled his chest. ’...so there was a reason that Rift Lord didn’t kill me after all... They want me... But why? It can only be because of the Forbidden Mark... right?.....’

Everyone was surprised to hear that because, from their perspective, Vale was inconsequential. He shouldn’t even be a threat!

Takoda hissed. "Be careful! Those monsters with her appear dead, but they’re Riftborn Titans!"

Before anyone could move, the cloaked monster spread his hands, and the space around him fractured. Everything flattened, and an invisible force slammed into everyone like a giant’s blow, ramming them down.

Vale’s tower was pushed down together with everyone else. They slammed into the ground with bone-shaking force, and he cursed at the jarring landing.

Even the Master Knights could only cushion their fall.

The green monster smiled at them, crushing the flying creature beneath her feet as she reached the rugged mountain ground. "Isn’t it much better to fight like this?"

The next moment, water condensed, many times smaller than its actual size, whipped through the air, slamming into her. She was jetted away, crashing into a boulder and cracking through it, her green body splattering.

Inside the tower, Slya sighed. "Somehow, I know that only tickled her."

The serpent rose and opened its mouth in a roar.
