Chapter 589: More Than Enough

Looking into Mu Yuze’s misty and beautiful eyes, He Juan realized that the omega had just bared the deepest part of his heart to him – the part that was filled with fear, anxiety and insecurity.

He was revealing his most vulnerable self to He Juan, trusting him to cherish and keep it safe, and He Juan’s heart almost burst with the sheer magnitude of love and heartache he felt for this person. No matter how much time had passed, Mu Yuze would always prioritize him again and again. He was ready to forsake everything for He Juan, be it his life, his career, his future...

How could he ever deserve such an amazing mate?

Unable to put his feelings into words, He Juan could only cup Mu Yuze’s exquisite face with his large palms and pressed kisses on five points of his face: his forehead, eyes, cheeks, nose and lips. All the while, the man’s name spilled from his lips, sounding as if it had merged with the very air he breathed. "Mu Yuze..." kiss "Mu Yuze... Mu Yuze..." another kiss.

What little sourness in Mu Yuze’s scent faded away, replaced with sweet contentment. "Gege..." he bowed his head to expose his gland in a gesture of submission. And He Juan reciprocated by nuzzling their necks together, rubbing off his scent there, making the omega purr with happiness. Only after that did he tilt Mu Yuze’s chin up to draw his attention, and gently told him, "Mu Yuze, I can’t. When I set foot in this country, I told myself that I would not run away again."

The faint haze in Mu Yuze’s eyes rapidly dissipated, and the alertness returned.

"Truth to be told..." He Juan let out a wistful sigh as he gently traced his thumb across the soft skin of Mu Yuze’s cheeks. "I had no intention of involving the police in my affairs again. Wait a minute, listen to me first," he chuckled when Mu Yuze opened his mouth as though to protest. "That had been my intention, but now that I’ve learned that both you and Kang Guanyu are police officers, it seems like I will have to adjust my plans."

"What are your plans?" Mu Yuze asked while observing his expression carefully. "Can you tell me? Also... what happened to you seven years ago?"

"Seven years ago..." He Juan felt his breath stuck on his throat just by the mere thought of it. If he wanted to talk about that year, then he’d have to start from ten years ago, when he first discovered the presence of the mutated Alphas, sought Marius’ help, and learned about Luo Xuan’s insane dream to mutate every omega in this world. He’d have to talk about his own retaliation, which ended up killing the people who were dear to him...

"Gege...?" Now it was Mu Yuze’s turn to cup his face, concern and alarm etched on his features. "Y–You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to..."

Did he really look that terrible? Shaking his head, He Juan let out a rueful chuckle. "No," he said as he took a deep breath. "You must know. You need to know, both as the law enforcer in this country and as my mate. It’s just that..." a bitter smile hung on his lips. "It might take a long time and... it’s not easy for me to talk about it..."

"It’s fine," Mu Yuze answered within a heartbeat, his gaze unwavering. "I will listen. I will listen to whatever Gege wants to say."

Just like magic, He Juan felt an invisible weight being lifted off his shoulders upon hearing those words. It was not just the acceptance and the readiness he saw in Mu Yuze; but also the reassurance that once he finished, he would still find Mu Yuze by his side, within an arm’s length, offering the comfort of his presence. And that was enough for He Juan – more than enough.

"Okay," He Juan flashed a smile, wider this time. He pulled out his phone from his pocket and handed it to Mu Yuze. "Enter your number here, I will send you the address of the house I’m staying in currently. Also, how long will you be in the capital?"

Mu Yuze accepted the phone and efficiently punched in his number, pressing the dial button. When it was done, he saved the number to He Juan’s contacts, hesitated for a second before inputting a single rabbit emoji in the name column. His ears warmed up when He Juan chuckled, but he thickened his skin and held his head high. What’s wrong with using that emoji? Was it not a special thing between them?

Returning the phone to He Juan, he replied, "We’re here just to catch you, so we will return as soon as we’re done with our business. What’s your plan?"

"Hmm..." He Juan narrowed his eyes mysteriously.

Outside the Phoenix Ablaze, 2.33 AM.

"This is Team B. I repeat, this is Team B. We’ve spotted Officer Mu and Officer Kang. The target... is nowhere to be seen!"

Upon receiving that report, Li Zhi instantly leaped out of the car and rushed to the rendezvous location. The number of officers involved in this operation was less than ten. After all, whether XIU could really be found here remained a mystery. As Li Zhi approached the area, he could see Mu Yuze and Kang Guanyu surrounded by the other officers who were bombarding them with questions.

"How is it? What’s the special event all about?"

"Did you meet XIU?!"

"Oh my God, Mu Yuze. What happened to you?!"

Li Zhi’s expression sank as he reached them and noticed the ugly bruises around Mu Yuze’s throat. It was such a conspicuous mark that his eyes were immediately drawn there. Moreover, the bruises... they were clearly in the shape of fingermarks!

The officers gave way to Li Zhi, clamping their mouths shut at the sight of his dark and thunderous face.

Kang Guanyu, either not noticing the furious storm brewing above Li Zhi’s head or pretending to be oblivious to it, straightened up and gave a salute, "Reporting to the Captain, we have returned safe and sound!"

"Safe and sound, your ass!" Li Zhi spat out angrily. He scanned the two of them from head to toe, relieved that there were no visible injuries. Eventually, his gaze settled on Mu Yuze, who was clutching onto a dark blue suit jacket that was clearly not his size. Li Zhi’s eyes darkened as numerous guesses flashed in his mind, "Did you encounter XIU inside? Is he the one who did this to you?!"

"Ah..." Mu Yuze rubbed his neck, as though he had just been reminded of the bruises’ existence. Such a nonchalant attitude only served to fuel Li Zhi’s anger. However, before he could launch into a long spiel about the importance of safety and self-preservation, Mu Yuze beat him to it.

"We did meet XIU inside," he began, and beside him Kang Guanyu nodded in agreement. "We were no match for him, but luckily in the end, we managed to reach some sort of agreement."

"An agreement??" The other echoed in astonishment.

"Right, right," Kang Guanyu chimed in with a grin as he flashed a ’peace’ sign. "Three days from now, XIU will return to Yuyang. By then, he will come to our bureau by himself!"

"He will... what?!"
