Chapter 590: Please Help Me!

Chen Youzhi couldn’t resist sneaking a few glances at He Juan through the rearview mirror— or to be exact, the faint smile that had never left He Juan’s face ever since he stepped out of the Phoenix Ablaze. Chen Youzhi almost thought his eyes were playing tricks on him when he first saw that, and it took him one hard pinch on his thigh for him to realize that he was truly not dreaming.

More surprisingly, He Juan even began to hum! Hum!!

In all the years of working for this man, Chen Youzhi had never heard him hum before! It sent chills down his spine, and he couldn’t help but be reminded of the calm before a storm. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

As the car left the vicinity of the club, Chen Youzhi finally couldn’t hold back his curiosity anymore and mustered his courage to ask, "Did something good happen, Boss? You’re in a good mood."

He Juan’s humming paused as he turned to meet Chen Youzhi’s eyes through the rearview mirror. He patted his cheek in mild confusion, "Is it that noticeable?"

No shit, Chen Youzhi cursed inwardly, though he maintained a stoic expression on the outside. If he still did not realize anything after these unusual behaviors from He Juan, then he would be an utter failure! Did He Juan not realize that he was humming? Not wanting to trigger anything, Chen Youzhi could only settle for a neutral answer, "Well, I sensed it a bit."

Fortunately, He Juan no longer pressed further for answers. "Ah no, it’s nothing..." he let out an airy chuckle, which was the opposite of ’nothing’ because he sounded almost giddy when he did that. "I just found my mate."

Chen Youzhi nodded, but then as the words sank into his mind, he immediately whipped his head up, his eyes going round in shock. "You found... who?!" He exclaimed. It was fortunate that the road was quite desolate at such wee hours in the morning, or else they would have definitely caused an accident.

"My mate," He Juan repeated, and there was an exceedingly gentle and loving expression on his face that Chen Youzhi had never seen before in the years he had known He Juan. It made his mind go blank for a second.

So Boss can also make a face like this, he found himself thinking. What were the odds that He Juan could find his mate at such an unexpected place like a nightclub? Life was truly filled with surprises. After a thoughtful pause, Chen Youzhi could say nothing but a heartfelt, "Congratulations, Boss. Everyone will be thrilled to hear this."

"Thank you, Chen’er," He Juan replied with a soft chuckle.

He looked happier since... forever. It had been so long since Chen Youzhi had seen He Juan this happy, and he couldn’t help but feel a sliver of relief seeping into his heart. Only God knew how, at the back of his mind, he had always worried about what He Juan might do once he achieved his revenge, once he was done with whatever he was planning to do. And now with the appearance of his mate, it seemed like Chen Youzhi did not have to worry anymore.

He could almost see it, the shadow of the previous XIU. The carefree, flamboyant yet kindhearted man, and not the distant and depressed figure he had become.

"Don’t you want to know who he is?" He Juan asked, his silver eyes twinkling brightly.

Chen Youzhi let out a quiet huff, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "It doesn’t matter," he replied. "Since they’re your mate, they must be a good person."

He Juan clicked his tongue in amusement. "Since when did you become such a smooth-talker? Well, I won’t tell you if you don’t want to know. Either way, you will meet him sooner or later. Oh, I forgot to add, it’s also someone you know."

Now that was a shocking revelation. Someone he knew? Chen Youzhi knitted his brows as he tried to sift through his memory. Did he know an omega who could possibly be He Juan’s mate? Chen Youzhi was starting to get curious now, but before he could inquire further, He Juan patted his shoulder from behind. Gone was the exuberance in his tone, replaced by a hint of grimness.

"We’re being followed. Keep going."

Chen Youzhi startled, but still kept his calm nonetheless. He adjusted his grip on the steering wheel, straightened up and stole a glance through the side mirror. True to He Juan’s words, an inconspicuous black sedan was trailing some distance behind them like a little tail. Alas, the car’s windows were tinted black, making it impossible for Chen Youzhi to identify the other party. This was certainly not a rare occurrence for them, but this marked the first time He Juan had been followed since he returned to the country.

"Did he follow us from the Phoenix Ablaze?" Chen Youzhi took a somber guess.

He Juan hummed in contemplation, "Seems like it. Doesn’t look like a professional, though. Their method is too clumsy and obvious."

"What should we do, Boss?" Chen Youzhi asked, his expression turning grim with concern. Before him was a road junction, and he deliberately made a turn in the opposite direction of He Juan’s penthouse, intending to lead their pursuers astray.

He Juan instructed, "Keep going for now. Don’t alert them." He pulled out his phone and quickly made a call. "Hello? Yes, it’s me, Mr. Han. If it’s no trouble for you, may I request some of your bodyguards to help me? I am being followed now, only one car. I don’t know their identity yet, so make sure to keep them alive." Hanging up on the call, He Juan proceeded to share his location with Han Shan.

They did not need to wait long before reinforcement came. After all, they had not gone far from the Phoenix Ablaze, and Han Shan would not spare any effort to offer He Juan help, especially when he heard that the man was in trouble.

As He Juan suspected, their pursuers were far from professional. They did not even realize it when Han Shan’s men, who had occupied two cars, were steadily inching closer to them. By the time they found themselves flanked on both sides, it was already too late for them to escape.

"Stop the car," He Juan commanded when he noticed that they had reached a desolate area out of the range of the surveillance cameras, and Chen Youzhi wordlessly complied. As the car slowly came to a halt, He Juan reached beneath the seat and retrieved a gun before smoothly slipping it into his pocket. The two of them exited the car and walked toward their stalker, who had been forcefully dragged out of the car by Han Shan’s bodyguards.

"Are you okay, Mr. Xiu?!" Han Shan hovered around him in concern, only to sigh in relief when He Juan nodded.

"You don’t need to make a personal trip for me..." He Juan sighed, feeling a little guilty for inconveniencing the other.

But Han Shan retorted with a righteous tone, "How can I sit still when someone has malicious intentions towards you? Men, bring him here!" He struck his cane on the ground, his eyes brimming with anger.

"Only one person?" He Juan asked in surprise. He glanced over and saw someone with thin stature being manhandled by the bulky men in black suits. Despite looking only in his late twenties, the man’s complexion was gaunt and his entire person looked unkempt as though it had been long since he had last taken care of himself.

Also, why... why did he look kinda familiar? Where had he seen this person before...

The man had initially struggled as he was caught by the security personnel, but as soon as he spotted He Juan, he instantly froze in his tracks. Instead of fear, however, his eyes sparkled with recognition and fervent desperation of someone who had seen his savior, and even without anyone forcing him, he prostrated himself before He Juan, slamming his forehead again and again onto the ground, pleading,

"XIU, please... please help me! You’re the only one who can help me get my revenge!"

The more He Juan examined the man, the more he felt an uncanny sense of familiarity. It was as though they had crossed paths before, but he just couldn’t remember it off the top of his head. The feeling was extremely frustrating; the answer clearly lay before him, so tantalizingly close yet it was shrouded in a layer of fog he could not remove no matter what.

Frowning, He Juan asked him, "What’s your name? Do I know you?"
