Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 613: Work Together
The next day couldn’t come soon enough, and Mu Yuze had to leave the Capital with his comrades before Zhong Yun could even regain consciousness.
Zhong Yun’s withdrawal symptoms only eased up somewhere around midnight. While Chen Youzhi easily helped clean him up, he all but passed out from extreme exhaustion. It was simply impossible for Mu Yuze to expose his existence to the police after the shocking revelation he’d heard last night, so he could only entrust the young man to He Juan’s care for the time being.
"Rest assured, I will keep an eye on him," He Juan said when he was sending Mu Yuze off to the door. He grasped the Omega’s hand, clearly reluctant to part. "You, on the other hand, need to be extra careful, do you hear me? Don’t act impulsively, take care not to get hurt and eat your meals in time..." he couldn’t help but nag a little more, but Mu Yuze swiftly silenced him with a kiss.
Faint twinkles danced within the omega’s dark and beautiful eyes as he whispered, "Don’t worry, Gege. I know my limits. You have your own battle to fight, and so do I. But this time, allow me to help you, okay?"
He Juan gazed at him for one long moment before releasing a helpless sigh. With his omega looking so stunningly determined like this, how was he supposed to say no? He Juan could only knock their foreheads together and closed his eyes, basking in the presence of his mate as much as he could. "Okay," he replied, his voice a bit hoarse. Again, he added, "Okay, let’s work together this time, Officer Mu."
He Juan swore he’d never seen Mu Yuze as gleeful and ecstatic as he did now, to the point where his entire body seemed to be buzzing with excitement. The sight amused him to no end.
Why was he so thrilled by that one ordinary sentence? Oh no, his Xiao Ze couldn’t have been an utter workaholic, right? After all, he got all excited at the notion of hunting down the rat in the police force!
It was with that misunderstanding in mind that He Juan was forced to let Mu Yuze go – of course, not without scenting the omega all over for the last time. He only felt satisfied when Mu Yuze turned beet red like a boiled lobster, glaring at him with his moist and watery eyes.
Utterly unrepentant, He Juan planted one last lingering kiss on the omega’s forehead. "I will see you later?" he murmured huskily.
"Mn," Mu Yuze responded with a soft hum, his eyelids fluttering shut as he leaned deeper into He Juan’s embrace. "I will be waiting."
The residence instantly turned cold and dreary without Mu Yuze’s presence, but He Juan did not allow himself to mope for too long. The day after tomorrow, he needed to go to the Municipal Bureau, and he had a lot of things to prepare beforehand.
Grabbing his coat, phone and wallet, he left the house for the old district where Chen Youzhi was.
He thought he would be able to find his way there just fine. After all, he had just visited the place yesterday! But of course, his damaged brain decided to act up right at that moment, reminding him of his limitations and that he could never go back to his olden days. He Juan ended up lost, and Chen Youzhi had to run around in search of him.
"I’m sorry, Chen’er," he apologized once they met, a self-deprecating smile tugging on his lips. "I shouldn’t have lowered my guard so soon, huh? It’s just that things have been going well – too well – for me lately that I forgot about my condition..."
He Juan belatedly realized one critical flaw in his plans. Putting aside Ku Jin, Luo Xuan or his other enemies, he had to focus on himself first! He had no idea when his body would betray him, and worse still, it was not something he could prevent. This one unpredictable factor was akin to chill seeping into his heart, draining away all the remnants of warmth Mu Yuze had left behind. What if he forgot something crucial and threw the entire plans into jeopardy? Goodness, he needed to take this into account first and foremost!
Observing He Juan’s glum state, Chen Youzhi could only pat his shoulder and remark, "Everyone will become forgetful someday. Your time just arrived a little faster, Boss."
The corner of He Juan’s lips twitched. "Is that your attempt to comfort me?"
Chen Youzhi did not dignify that with a reply, but it spoke volumes in He Juan’s ears. He couldn’t suppress a chuckle, feeling a bit less gloomy. "I really appreciate it. Let’s go, I still have quite a lot of things I need to ask Zhong Yun."
He Juan spent the rest of the day conversing with Zhong Yun, trying to get the full picture of everything the young man had experienced in the past few months. Unlike Chen Youzhi, He Juan did not treat him like a criminal to be interrogated, but more like a casual acquaintance. Perhaps that approach was why Zhong Yun opened up more readily to him, or it could also be the steady reassurance he exuded that made him appear more dependable in Zhong Yun’s eyes.
Through their talk, He Juan discovered that Zhong Yun did not have the slightest idea that Mu Yuze had become a police officer. Given his extreme animosity toward the police force, He Juan refrained from sharing Mu Yuze’s contact information with him for the time being, opting to let them meet first. Either way, Zhong Yun had agreed to return to Yuyang with He Juan when He Juan broke the news to him.
Their extensive conversation was recorded and sent to Mu Yuze through an encrypted email.
The final day flashed by with He Juan wrapping things up and preparing to move alongside his ex-subordinates, who insisted on following him whenever he went.
Before he knew it, he was sitting in a car heading back to Yuyang City, with Chen Youzhi as the chauffeur.
He Juan did not make any stops somewhere. He kept his words and asked Chen Youzhi to drive straight to the City Bureau. And when he reached there, the one waiting for him was none other than the Captain of the Violent Crime Unit, Li Zhi.
"You’re here, Mr. He – or should I call you XIU?" he asked, and He Juan could keenly sense the underlying hostility in his tone despite the man’s attempt to sound neutral.
Nonetheless, his business smile remained impeccable as always. "I’m fine with either, Captain Li. Thank you for having me here."
Their gazes clashed, invisible sparks and electricity flying in the air. The tension was so thick that one could cut through it with a knife, but just as it seemed to escalate further, Li Zhi turned his head away and gestured, "Shall we?"
"Sure," He Juan replied, stepping into the premises.
