Chapter 622: No Reference

Of course, Chen Youzhi couldn’t possibly be privy to such private information, and neither could the other men. The only ones who had access to He Juan’s medical condition might only be Jia Molei and...

"Come to think of it," Chen Youzhi remarked, having thought of someone else. "It seems like there’s one more person we can ask."

And that’s how He Juan found himself at the Yuyang Hospital Center. The unexpected detour forced him to set aside all his scheduled plans for the day, but it’s not like he had any other choice.

"Will you be okay, Boss?" Chen Youzhi asked worriedly as he drove into the parking lot. "After all, this is the same hospital where..."

He Juan stared out of the window, gazing at the tall building before him with a distant look on his face. Somewhere in that place, Luo Xuan, his former Boss, was currently receiving treatment.

He let out a brief hum in response, "It’s not like I have any intention to meet him ever again. As long as you continue to keep a close eye around the perimeter, it’s all good. I suspect that Ku Jin is going to make a move one of these days. You know how cunning he is. Make sure to have more than one person per shift and confirm each other’s identity with the secret code we have discussed before. Don’t let your guard down around anyone – be it a woman or an elderly..." Realizing that he had entered nagging mode again, He Juan cleared his throat and concluded, "Well, I’m sure you know what to do."

"Rest assured, Boss." Chen Youzhi nodded earnestly. "I will be careful."

"Alright," He Juan said as he stepped out of the car. "Let’s go and meet this person you’re telling me about. Didn’t you say that we can only find him at this hospital? What was his name again—"

Eventually, He Juan had to wait for another hour until he could meet the physical therapist Su Xieren as he had visited right as the man was tending to another patient. The first impression He Juan got when he saw the man was that he appeared wholly ordinary, if not for his bulky and towering physique that resembled Alphas.

This person was supposed to be his and Jia Molei’s close friend?

"Da-ge!" The Beta exclaimed in surprise and shot up to his feet upon seeing He Juan on the doorway. His sharp gaze scanned He Juan from head to toe before realization struck. "You... you are XIU, aren’t you?"

He Juan entered the office and closed the door behind him, chuckling softly. "We must be quite close then, for you to address me like that. Unfortunately, I still can’t recall anything about you. But please, feel free to call me whatever you like."

"Ah..." Su Xieren exclaimed softly as his gaze briefly darted to He Juan’s forehead. He swiftly recovered from his shock and nodded. "I will not stand on ceremony, then. You too, just talk to me casually. Have a seat, Da-ge." He gestured at the space across from him. "How are you doing? Do you need a medical check-up? Or... is this about Jia-ge? Have you discovered any news about him?"

It took He Juan a moment to register that the ’Jia-ge’ Su Xieren mentioned was Jia Molei. He had never heard anyone address the doctor in such an intimate way before, so he was a bit taken aback. "Ah yes, I’m still working on tracking him down. But if he’s still the Jia Molei I know, then he will surely be fine until we locate him."

Before he could delve into the memory of their last encounter which was far from pleasant, He Juan diverted the topic with a smile, "You can rest assured, I will definitely find him. On another note, I’m here for a different reason. You see..." he cleared his throat. God, he knew that they used to be friends, but why did it feel so embarrassing to inquire about his rut? Technically, He Juan had just met this person today!

Under Su Xieren’s puzzled gaze, he let out a groan and finally decided to get this matter over with. "I’m here to ask... because I heard that you knew about my... uh, my rut schedule."

"Rut schedule?" Su Xieren looked alarmed, which was honestly not the reaction He Juan was expecting. "Are you entering your rut period, Da-ge?"

Blinking, He Juan replied truthfully, "Well, not now. But I can sense it coming soon. After all, I’ve had quite a lot of intimate contact with my mate recently..." he massaged his aching temple with a sigh.

This was an oversight he had failed to take into account. As far as he could remember, when Mu Yuze had just manifested as an Omega, he had almost entered his rut after taking care of the other for the whole night. Fortunately, he managed to suppress it by taking medicine. Now, however, with his Alpha recognizing its mate once more – no longer a freshly presented, but a fully mature omega akin to sweet persimmon ready to be picked – he feared that suppressor alone might no longer be enough to contain it.

He Juan had no idea to what lengths his Alpha would go when that time came, which prompted him to seek out Su Xieren. He wanted to know his behavior pattern over the last seven years – better safe than sorry.

"Are you talking about Officer Mu?" Su Xieren asked, catching He Juan off guard.

"You know him?"

Su Xieren nodded in affirmation and began to recount. "You nearly entered your rut when you first met and I had to send you a suppressor. I’ve also had other encounters with him since then. Not only that..." he trailed off, clearly hesitating. Upon He Juan’s insistence, he continued his sentence, a wry smile tugging on his lips. "You once entrusted me to take care of him when you were away, but Officer Mu was stubborn, and I couldn’t prevent him from going after you..."

He Juan sighed, "Are we talking about the day of the incident in the harbor?"

Su Xieren’s eyes rounded in surprise, which was an answer in itself. "You..."

He Juan shrugged, "I heard a bit about it."

Now he had to re-evaluate his relationship with Su Xieren. He had assumed they were merely friends, but someone who could get close to Jia Molei, and could make the past him entrust his mate who was the most important person to him, Su Xieren’s role in their lives must be quite significant. After a brief contemplation, He Juan cut to the chase and straightforwardly stated his purpose, "That’s why I need to know about my rut schedule. It’s better if you can provide me with my behavior patterns, if you have the record."

"Um, Da-ge..." Observing his reaction carefully, Su Xieren informed, "There’s something important you need to know."

He Juan raised a brow and gestured for him to speak. And with each word that came out of Su Xieren’s mouth, He Juan’s jaws hung wider and wider. He gazed at the man in sheer disbelief, "You mean to say that... I’ve no rut for the past seven years? How?!"

"Well, Jia-ge believed that it’s some kind of side effects or trauma from the accident you’ve been through..."

Raking his hair through his hair, He Juan released a laugh laced with nervousness and frustration. "So I have no reference about how I will act, how violent I will be, or even how long the period is going to last..."

Fuck, he was doomed now.
