Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 624: That Lunatic!
Where? Where is he?
He Juan’s gaze darted back and forth among the people in the bustling hallway, focusing particularly on their eyes and necks. They shot him strange looks, no doubt creeped out by his abrupt and intense demeanor. But He Juan couldn’t afford to care about it right now, simply muttering a quiet apology and tugging his mask higher so that no one would recognize him.
He was aware that Ku Jin’s disguise was nearly flawless. Nearly – it meant that there would definitely be traces of manipulation on the face; he only needed to scrutinize closer to find it.
Moreover, he was certain that he could recognize Ku Jin’s eyes once he looked at them. Those bottomless and terrifying orbs were not something the man could conceal even with the best contact lenses. They held a darkness that came from the depths of his soul, a dead giveaway to his true identity. Just take Zhong Yun and Qin Zhen’s case for example.
Perhaps that was the reason why Ku Jin always chose ordinary-looking people with weak presence to disguise himself as. For he understood that while he could mimic their appearance, voice, and body language to a T, he could never replicate their soul. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Not him... not him... not this one either...
He Juan paused on his tracks and pinched his brows, realizing that he had let his emotions get to his head.
Calm down, He Juan, he told himself. He must not be hasty. Taking a deep breath, he tried to recall everything he knew about Ku Jin.
That bastard was not the Master of Disguise and Manipulation for nothing. For him to come to this place, it had to be to meet Luo Xuan. What kind of suitable appearance would he assume to be able to enter Luo Xuan’s room freely, under the watchful gazes of the stationed officers?
The answer was simple: either a doctor or a nurse.
Considering Luo Xuan’s room was on another floor, Ku Jin could either have completed his task or be on his way there. Now the main question was— had he donned a uniform and, if so, was it a male or female? The possibilities were too vast for He Juan to mull over in such a short span of time, but one thing for certain; if Ku Jin intended to move, he would have to take either the elevator or the emergency stairs.
All these thoughts raced in He Juan’s mind in a fraction of a second.
He raised his head sharply and turned towards the direction of the elevator and the emergency exit. At that moment, his keen gaze caught quite a peculiar movement. The family of five that had been strolling a few meters ahead of him suddenly split up. Four of them headed toward a room, while a young woman turned alone in the direction He Juan had been eyeing, her pace too brisk for a casual stroll. There was no interaction between them whatsoever, nor did the family notice the young woman’s disappearance.
That person...
Drawing a sharp breath, He Juan immediately gave chase, his gaze sharp and focused. There he was!
"Excuse me, please let me through. I’m sorry!" He Juan bumped into people in his haste, while a nurse scolded him loudly, "Please don’t run in the hallway!"
But He Juan’s whole attention was on the figure in front of him, who seemed to be heading straight toward the... restroom?
"Damn it!" He Juan cursed under his breath when he spotted the woman slipping into the female restroom. He was tempted to throw all caution to the wind and barged his way in, but the onlookers around prevented him from doing so. How could he explain chasing after a young woman with an almost obsessive demeanor? After all, they had no idea about Ku Jin, so in their eyes it would seem like He Juan was a stalker harassing her. Anything he said to expose Ku Jin would only make it seem like he was defending himself. Not to mention the risk of being recognized...
He Juan shuddered when he imagined the headline that would appear first thing tomorrow— [XIU, once a member of Xuanlong and a controversial figure, was caught harassing a young woman in a female restroom! Is that his true nature all along?!]
He Juan might not give a damn about public opinion, but... not like this! It would be so damn mortifying to be labeled a pervert, on top of the existing notoriety to his name!
However, did it mean he had to let Ku Jin go just like that?
No, he couldn’t. If he allowed the man to escape now, who knew when he could manage to locate him again? Even if he had to squat here all day, he would wait for Ku Jin to come out and confront him! He would not budge until he caught that bastard with his own hands!
"Boss!" Chen Youzhi swiftly caught, visibly relieved when he saw that He Juan was unharmed. "Are you okay? Where is he?!"
Before He Juan could respond, shrill screams emanated from the restroom. "H–HELP—! Someone... someone jumped out of the window ahhh!"
"Fuck!" This time, He Juan no longer cared about his reservation or dignity as he rushed there, at the same time as a crowd of women scrambling out in fright. "That lunatic, this is the fourth floor!"
When He Juan finally managed to enter, the restroom was already empty and the small window was ajar. Hurrying over, he looked down just in time to catch a woman in sportswear deftly sliding down using the pipelines before sprinting away. Unfortunately, the window was so narrow that it was impossible for someone with a broad frame like He Juan or Chen Youzhi to follow.
Cursing vehemently under his breath, He Juan turned to instruct Chen Youzhi, who was close behind him.
"He’s disguising himself as a woman! Gray sportswear with a black hat, long black hair, heading to the west entrance. Get people to block him, don’t let him escape!"
